      I LOVE the attention to detail here. The Light fury backing herself into a corner & even jumping on the side bars to be as far away as possible to anything that comes near. Really shows how terrified & yet angry she is at the same time.
      I love how she doesn’t immediately warm up to Toothless just cause he looks similar. In the movie, she instantly warms up to Tooth at the first sight of seeing him just cause he looks “similar” this interpretation here looks much more realistic.

The dragons in HTTYD were always full of personality and expression, Toothless being a prime example of this, as in the first two movies dragons were treated more like partners and friends than like pets in the third movie, which really made the dragons appear more instinct-dependent animals than characters.

    See…. The primary thing missing was an actual reason for toothless leaving. “Woman” is not a good reason. At all. That is as deep as a fossilized riverbed.
    Had the light fury had more character shown like it had been here, and meeting with toothless in a montage like how he and Hiccup bonded in movie one of her showing him what it’s like to be independent in the wild again, I thing those of us who actually hated the third movie could easily have forgiven it all.
    But no. You had to make toothless a stereotypical dumb boy who just want girl because, very literally, girl.

    • @LangkeeLongkee
      @LangkeeLongkee Před 2 lety

      It is a good reason because he’s a lizard…. I love toothless to death, and he’s family, but he’s not a human being, he doesn’t think the same way we do and have the same values as us. He’s not a “stereotypical dumb boy” because he’s not a HUMAN guy abandoning his best friend for a chick, he’s an endangered animal that found a mate.

    • @jostaaaa
      @jostaaaa Před 2 lety +17

      @@LangkeeLongkee yeah of course, but everything toothless has shown up until this point *has* been very humanlike. he’s not just a big flying lizard that runs on instincts, he’s defied nature to create a beautiful bond with a human being. because toothless is so capable of emotional intelligence, it feels really weird that only NOW he purely relies on his instincts with no real reason to (sure, you might say that being able to continue your species is important… but it’s hard to believe that he’d disregard the bonds he has created so quickly since he’s as emotionally intelligent as a person). it leaves you with a feeling that something’s off because toothless has had the same values as us until this movie, so it just comes across like toothless just pulled the biggest dick move of all dick moves by being so shallow

    • @LangkeeLongkee
      @LangkeeLongkee Před 2 lety +3

      @@jostaaaa that first part isn't the slightest bit true... Humans have this awful habit of associating having emotions with being an exclusively human trait. Toothless' behaviours and mannerisms are literally modelled after cats and dogs, he doesn't act human like, he acts like an animal. Your dog expresses a level of emotional intelligence to understand when you're sad, and that they love, and that they should probably comfort you, that's not a human thing to care. They simply have feelings. Toothless simply had feelings.
      I'm not saying he acted like a mindless lizard, but he certainly didn't act like a person. He acted like a loving animal companion, just as your dog can do what I described they can still act on instinct and bite or hump your leg, it's really no different.
      He didn't disregard the bonds he had, he very clearly still loved Hiccup very much. He never switched to "screw you, friendship with Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III cancelled, Light Fury is my new best friend" he only expressed annoyance and sadness when Hiccup showed up in the Hidden World and caused a scene, but je very clearly loved him and never stopped, even till the very end.

    • @jostaaaa
      @jostaaaa Před 2 lety +2

      @@LangkeeLongkee hiya!! sorry for the late response :,,) i’m sorry if my previous comment was worded weirdly, i shouldn’t have called toothless humanlike. but what i’m getting at is that toothless has always fought against assumed nature and nature itself because of the bond he’s created with hiccup.
      in the first movie you’re dealing with proving the vikings of berk that the assumed nature of dragons is wrong, all the while toothless and hiccup find a way to fight and kill an alpha dragon (instead of being mind controlled by it and following its orders, which would be the natural order of things). this is all because of the bond toothless and hiccup have. it’s also assumed that a friendship between a man and a dragon is unnatural until hiccup and toothless challenge that notion because of the bond they posses with each other.
      in the second movie, toothless fights against the mind control of a dragon that previously forced toothless to attempt to kill hiccup. he woke up from that control because of hiccup, and became alpha in the end out of a need to protect him.
      in the third movie he doesn’t necessarily follow this need to challenge nature itself for his bond with hiccup and instead plays right into it with the lightfury, which is why i thought his character came across as a little inconsistent? i don’t think it’s a problem with the inclusion of the lightfury, just the execution of their relationship. it only takes toothless 4 minutes to want to runaway with this lightfury when he previously fought all notions of nature for his bond with hiccup countless times….that was the point of this series up until now. i think it would’ve been better if the lightfury and toothless had more chances to develop a believable bond with each other while toothless struggles between his newfound love and his hiccup rather than throwing hiccup away altogether
      of course animals will be animals. however, when the previous movies proved that the bond that hiccup and toothless shared always pushed the boundaries of that, this third movie felt a little off (i could also go into the thematic inconsistencies the third movie has in comparison to the films proceeding it and the strange message that it gives that contradict the other two movies, but that’d be a whole other paragraph dump haha)

    • @LangkeeLongkee
      @LangkeeLongkee Před 2 lety

      @@jostaaaa again, you're kind of making a LOT of nothing based assumptions about dragons for any of this to make sense. It must be restated that dragons are animals native to this world. They are just animals. Nothing implies that Toothless has an extremely abnormal level of emotional intelligence for dragons that doesn't make any sense in any if the films or even series. Other people's dragons are shown to be just as emotional, Cloudjumper for a film example is very expressive about how he felt about Toothless when they met versus how he feels now. Other dragons are shown to care just as much, Stormfly allowed herself to be captured and risk getting hurt for Eret in the second film, a human she hadn't even known longer than a day. But she really liked him.
      And yes, a bond between a human and a dragon was unheard of and unnatural, but that's simply because no one tried. Hiccup and Toothless' bond was about as unnatural as being gay in 17th century Europe. It's not that such a thing could not ever naturally occur ever, but the social climate at the time was "why the hell would you?" In fact the series goes out of its way to show that dragons are kind and WANT to bond with other creatures including humans. Dragons are shown to be very playful with each other, and it's a whole thing that you can get a dragon to relax and trust you simply by touching their nose. Hiccup is not the only one capable of this, he offers to show and teach this to characters multiple times in the films, first with Snotlout in the first, and moving on to trying it with basically all the "enemies" in the second movie. If it was truly inherently unnatural it would have never worked when anyone else did it or with any other dragon, but the series instead shows even dragons that lose a rider will move on to another person, like Skullcrusher chose Eret After Stoic's death. The films do hammer home that Hiccup and Toothless' are extremely close, but that plot could work and has been done in many other scenarios, it's not a "freak of nature" thing it's just two characters having a close bond, because they're close. That's really it. I don't see how that suddenly means he should override his instincts, which he has been shown to just inherently listen to sometimes, before.
      I don't think Toothless NEEDED to challenge nature in the third movie. Those are very different and incomparable situations. One is another creature literally exercising almost a psychic control over him, causing him hurt and even kill those he cares about, the other is a mate. She's not mind controlling him, he has the choice to go. She's not making him hurt anybody, he still protects Hiccup and she never knowingly asks him to. If he just actually didn't care he would have let Hiccup and Astrid get trampled in the Hidden World, but he didn't. Because he still loves them both and always would. I don't think he threw Hiccup away altogether, I think he was just caught up. It's not like he left for weeks even, and in the end he was clearly also very sad at the idea at never seeing Hiccup again, probably because that was never his intention. That said, I'm not saying it would have been wrong to develop their relationship more or anything, Toothless and the light fury I mean, I just still think the argument that it doesn't make any sense is a flawed one full of wishful thinking. I love Toothless, I do, this is a lesson that Hiccup had learned already in the franchise, that at the end of the day while he is family, he is still a lizard.

The fact that the light furry was left behind gives so much more context and storyline giving the fact that she was left behind gives us so much more than we all realize. The fact she can go invisible just by standing there and not just flying, the fact that the light furry is grimmle's "favorite bait".

      @@lexderp2766 no, i definitely think it had soul. it’s clear that a lot of passion that went into making httyd3, but i think some of the issues come with the plot and the ending in particular…i thought it was going somewhere with how they’re struggling to coexist with so many dragons, but then it basically cuts to the same conflict as the last movie except this time instead of an alpha dragon mind controlling other dragons it’s these dart things that also mind control dragons?
      the light fury’s role in particular irks me..she spends barely any time on screen, in the time she does she barely has any personality, and is instead used to fool toothless (and eventually used to lead him to the hidden world). i don’t think there’s anything wrong with toothless having to struggle with his romance with this light fury and his friendship with hiccup, that actually sounds really interesting! but toothless decides not even after a few minutes of screentime with this new dragon that “yep i’m going to abandon my friend whom i’ve bonded with for many years to live in this cave and never leave bc lady light fury hot”…it really feels wrong when you consider how much hiccup and toothless went through together, him giving all of that up doesn’t feel earned.
      you’ve probably heard a hundred people complain that the ending goes against the themes of the franchise…so make me a hundred and one. this whole time this was about putting in the effort and fighting for a way for humans and dragons to coexist peacefully, then hiccup goes “jk this is too hard bc humans are bad and don’t deserve dragons and we are incapable of change”. what does that even mean? so everything you fought for, the enemies, loss, and danger you’ve faced, *now* you decide to come to this conclusion??? besides, how will humans even learn to deserve dragons if they’re living in some cave for all of their lives, unable to fly above ground ever again?????? everyone’s forgotten about dragons and thought they weren’t real after TEN years! how are they supposed to learn to accept them if they don’t even know they exist!! this conclusion seems so stupid to me because it gives up what the past two movies set up: fighting for change no matter the risks. it was honestly such a huge letdown, but hey! at least in my head i can choose to believe httyd3 and everything after it isn’t canon

      It's not sexist because there are males in her species but okay.

      @@Green.Star_ks it pisses me off so much when people say that 😭 She's not a female night fury, she's a completely different species. The point is that Toothless truly IS the last of his kind, she's not meant to be a female version of him. You literally see other mated pairs in the background of the hidden world scenes. People just don't pay attention.

      Who knows, maybe they’ll remake it? But it’ll still be animated, not live action. I have no idea who came up with that idea.

    The only thing blander than her design is her personality A female night fury would’ve worked better if they really had to go with white as the main Color she could’ve been albino or something

    Unpopular opinion, but I think it good that this wasn't in the finale film. It's dragged out for some time and not needed to be. It would've prevented the story line we got from happening as she was used by the villain to get Toothless to move a way from hiccup to make him more vulnerable. This just kinda breaks the point of that and ruin the plot as she wouldn't be a berk, and would mostly be in the hidden world. The whole letting the dragons go would've felt a bit more forced, you know? Yes this gives her more character, but the plot overall wouldn't be as good. But as usual, this is my opinion on the matter.
