- It’s important for young soccer players to get a taste of every position on the field - including, when they’re ready, goalkeeper. Typically, keepers aren’t part of the game until kids are a little bit older and more experienced, around age 9 or 10. By then, the idea is that they’ve mastered at least some of the fundamentals, and can move on to positions.
Goalkeepers need to have many of the same basic skills as other soccer players - from ball control to understanding the overall flow of the game. But as the last line of defense, the keeper’s role is a unique one. These 101s help developing goalkeepers master the art of stopping the goal and distributing the ball.
Here are 9 goalkeeper drills to add to your goalkeeper training:
0:15 Basket Catch
0:56 Diamond Catch
1:51 Goalkeeper Footwork
2:45 Collecting the Ball on the Ground
3:41 The Collapse Dive
4:34 Punching the Ball
5:22 Goalkeeper Distribution
6:43 Punting the Ball
7:37 The Sidewinder Punt

As a goalkeeper coach and goalkeeper myself, I found this video useful. The only thing I would change is how the players land in a diamond catch. Instead of landing on one, it's better to land on two feet. Landing on one foot exposes the knee to injury whereas landing on two feet is much safer. Overall, great video!
Kayu l lu. Pkcnnnmmm((kmn .......... Set nya uang bisa as sdsdwdwddfddg
He land on one leg because he is using second leg to protect ourselves from get injured from upcoming players
Pp🙅🏾♂️🙅🏿♂️🙅🏿♂️🙅🏿♂️🤗🙅🏿♂️
P
The other leg is for protecting. like during corners you can use the other leg as a barrier to prevent tackles or bumps.
These videos are extremely helpful. I have two sons who play goalie and trying to find goalie trainers is damn near impossible but these videos really help fill in some of the gaps.
This is awesome thanks. I think one thing that's missing and is important for beginners is sweeping off your line.
Being an under 12s team goalkeeper, you just gave me some advice. Even better, were 1st in our league!!! Thanks!😊
I think this is a great video for GKs It would be helpful if there was a description of the set up for each of the drills - distance - number of reps , any progressions, etc Thanks for it though - it is quite useful
Video is very usefull
There’s a problem with the punt used in the video, he’s using the same side hand as the foot he’s using to punt it. If you’re punting with your right, you should be using your left hand to drop the ball👍
Amazing🔥😅 0:05
Seen several comments on here regarding W catch vs Diamond and which is better. As a coach i teach both and let the player experiment with each before deciding which best suites their style of play. Equip them with all the tools and let them decide which fits better.
for the sidevolley I normally drop it with the opposite hand of the side im kicking on
I love the video as a coach….. but on the collapse dive I would have loved to hear you say to not land on your elbow. Your not demonstrating was hitting elbow first, recipe for dislocating a shoulder. ( speaking from personal experience 😢)
after all the years, i have slightly different variations of all the basics in my repertoir, wich are way more effective. I wonder if most goalies come to this point, since i see most pros still using traditional technics, but not all of them.
I found this video useful; however there are a few fundamental items that should be addressed. When saving ground balls, they should not drop all the way to their knee. They need to keep both soles of their feet in contact with the ground so they can make a quick change if the ball takes a bad hop. So when dropping the knee don't let the knee touch the ground and keep the ball of the foot on the dropping knee in contact with the ground. My other comment would be on the collapse dive to remind the keeper to always bend the top leg in front to protect their body. The top leg should not float up in the air. Overall, a nice starter video. Thank you!!
Thank you sir 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
This video really will really help me as goalkeeper in little league😀
Now I feel like the arrows don’t really exist Spain man but I’m gonna say this seems like a pretty high-quality one open video old Time 20212 sounds like
Diamond or W. GK should always train with gloves at any age. It's a different feel, makes the hands bigger and protects your hands. Train how you play and vice versa.
The opposite. Train without gloves first and when you get older than you do what you want.
@Kluck0816 no better to use gloves to protect your fingers!
Train without gloves to teach proper technique. Gloves then are a bonus during matches.
@@footballsoccerlove1748gloves don’t protect fingers
@@jonathanfitzgerald5792 lol. No professional team or amateur trains that way. Gloves also protect against broken fingers. Gloves should feel like an extension of you not a bonus
its fun to watch and helpful
This is very useful for me as a young goalkeeper thank you
very useful
thank you
And the person that says this video is used for yup this one is useful or like one time and use one of the things I learned from one of these videos and they pretty much work worked good
As a goalkeeper this video made me to know more skills of goalkeeping
I like the video, but in the diamond catch - the second explanation catching the ball above the head - you state to bring the ball immediately into the chest. Just be careful that in congested surroundings when catching the ball high in a crowd of players, it may be necessary to keep the ball held high and bring it in shortly afterwards making sure the immediate area is clear, and the goalie doesn't hit the ball against either a close opposing player, or even a teammate, that could dislodge the ball in an attempt to bring the ball in too quickly. If it is a solid diamond catch the ball will be secure in the hands while waiting for the immediate area to clear. Thanks for these videos though. They are very good.
Very much useful video
Being a keeper (and now coach), I never went for the shuffling feet, I was told that you just get across the goal as quick as you can, teaching to shuffle can slow your movement.
Is there another skill that can replace collapse diving?
Great video for beginners. I just recommend to give the players actual goal keeper numbers like Nr 1 or 12. No Goalkeeper is going to have Nr 10 or Nr 9.
That’s what you took from
This video ? The numbers on the back of the jerseys ? 🤷♂️
@@nickchemist723😂
I always like w catch over diamond
i agree and in the video the coach turns and shows a W after he caught it
Is W formation catch better for catch or diamond shape better?
Very good video nicely exsplaned
Glad you liked it! There's more for free on the MOJO app! get.mojo.sport/youtube

Lev YASIN be like : hmm my punching has been handed down to generations😂😂 any way great vid
This is helpful because my position is gk
it is helpful
2nd is more like a w
Crossing your legs when moving to the side is not something to be avoided. It's a tool to use when speed is more important.
It is not soccer it is football
Fair enough. But also... twitter.com/BarstoolFinance/status/1561742302476902402
2:25 dropping your knee all the way to the ground is bad, it makes you immobile. Instead drop your knee low, but not touching the ground
⚽goal⚽
Use any goalkeeper than a player he can do it better and it will looks good
Helpful video
😊

the goalkeeper's teaching of the volley is super wrong, it is volleyed with the opposite hand with which it is hit with the foot
Any Kerala kepper🙋🤔
Sugham ano baiii
Helpful tips but these kids have to wear the glove it's important.
I am the best goalkeeper
LETS GOOO
😂
@SidneyEweka
this you ?
haha balls
You can't tell me this guy is a goalkeeping coach!! So many basic errors. Sorry, not a good video for quality of performance.
agreed.
Yup, and they don't even line up the video to match the dialogue in some cases, when they describe the front smother, they show a kid falling off to the side. 🤦
These work long distance, but when diving you should get the ball and IMMEDIATELY roll and put your back to the field when shot on close up. You can’t touch the goalkeeper, but accidents happen and can be severe so this can prevent you getting kicked in the face
@@HockeyStudio bro im a keeper i know what i talk about
@@HockeyStudio she leaves a hole in her legs and doesnt do the k or the long barrier
This is soccer. Where we call it football i can say these advices arent the best. Just basic and somewhat wrong. The technique is not good
This really isn't that useful. The diving is very unmentioned and the catching is very basic.
Most of this stuff is literally not useful advice it’s kinda bad advice
Nice video
Cuz I am selected as a goalkeeper and my match is tomorrow so wish me luck 🤞🤞😅
In all cases amortization of ball movement is missing
