I do think Supergirl at times is more powerful than Superman. But that's only because she tends to not hold back and accepts that she's full Kryptonian. While Superman always tends to hold back, and has always considered himself to be part earthling.

Zod was trying to kill Earth, Superman was new at the gig, and Zod threatened his mom, he had valid reasons to fight Zod in the city.

Imagine this, you're fighting an enemy that even at a disadvantage of being flightless is still throwing you around, okay? Now, think about this part. If Superman had stopped to grab someone from the falling debris, what would Zod be doing in that time frame? Not just crashing into the construction yard, but any time during that fight like when he was on the ground level. Do you think for the 2min Superman was saving someone he wouldn't look at those people and be chucking cars or something?
To me this paralleled the origion Superman/Doomsday fight in which there were people trapped in a burning house and Superman was fully aware, but he couldn't stop to save them because DD was just too dangerous to be left alone for too long, and Superman had to gamble defeating him quickly with enough time to save them. This is a similar case. And to say he doesn't care is also not true because he was willing to kill in order to save them. Doesn't matter if it were some random family or a gaggle of burly manly men trapped in the corner, Superman was willing to kill basically a terrorist in order to save some innocents.
SuperShanko then why didn't superman just take their fight to the moon or desert or something you know away from civilians? it's not like zod is gonna try to come back I mean he is after superman remember? and another thing with enough force from superman he can literally just punch zod to the moon to take their fight there I mean he was able to snap zod's neck so he could punch him to anywhere in that matter you might say zod is pushing him around but he is still able to attack so yeah the real superman would've saved more lives and take down zod at the same time

I think it’s ridiculous how much people chock up Kara’s strength above Clark’s as “feminism”, when even back in Pre-Crisis, Golden age, etc, she was already deemed to be much stronger due to several factors including experiments her father did to her as a kid.
The only reason we think Clark is stronger is because we’ve seen more of him, a whole lot, but in truth, Kara is far superior for a number of actually explained reasons, we just refuse to accept it to deflect anything that would deem as being feminist. It’s sad honestly, this is the equivalent of people complaining about a female Doctor Who, just plain pathetic.

Supergirl's pod was floating around in space for far longer than Superman's pod did.. Hence her base power level should technically be higher than Kal-El's

LOL I love when people state these things like they are facts. But it really depends which versions you are comparing. Sometimes she is, sometimes not. Fans seem to always forget that there is not only one definitive version of these characters, they are changing all the time.

In her CW TV series Supergirl lifted Fort Rozz and flew it into space. Most impressive.
Pretty sure Superman has punched villains through buildings in populated cities in TONS of animated versions. So let's not pretend it's only the DCEU Superman.
But from what i know superman doesn't kill in the animated versions but does in the DCEU
And besides in the DCAU pauldini has the creative control to make those buildings abandoned if he wanted to so there wouldn't be deaths in a kids show

Superman holding back sounds like a good explanation, until you remember that Batman analyzed that Supergirl's cells metabolize solar energy more efficiently. Perhaps it's because Superman has been under Earth's yellow sun longer than Supergirl has. Perhaps when she's had 30 or so years under the yellow sun her powers will exceed what her cousin currently has.
The theory behind Supergirl being more powerful is in her journey to earth where her ship navigation malfunctioned causing her to spend more time in space orbiting the sun absorbing more solar radiation and in closer proximity compared to Clark. This explains why she arrived to earth after Superman, even though in her origins story, she left Krypton around the same time if not, before superman was launched into space heading toward earth. That extra time spend adrift in space orbiting the sun may have caused Supergirl's body to adapt and become capable of absorbing more radiation and at a faster rate compared to Superman who absorbed his solar radiation through the earth's atmosphere. Theory explained. 🙂

I can't say that I know SuperGirl in the comics like that. But I really appreciated her introduction, growth, and maturing process in the WB animated series from Superman to Justice League Unlimited. She learned, she took on new challenges, and she held the Justice League down when things got crazy. I really appreciated that she respected Green Lantern and listened to him as her mentor even though she was probably more powerful than he was from the first day she joined the League. I just really dug that she made her own path and really learned what it is to be a hero and a leader.
Everyone can beat Superman, but he always seems to be the last one standing when it comes to big bad guys.
Wasn't supergirls's origin have her circling the sun for many years so that can explain why she may be stronger than superman

Supergirl is such a great. She is definitely one of the strongest and most powerful heroes of the DC Universe. However, Wonder Woman is much stronger than her.
I always had a soft spot for supergirl but new 52 SG just wasnt for me, tho red lantern SG was pretty cool I thought.
WOW! I'm shocked that Super Girl is this badass. But the show on TV sucks soooooo damn bad. It's unwatchable and I was a fan of the show but it took a left turn in season two that pissed me the hell off.

Yeah, mid-00s Kara was great. N52 Kara was decent too. Rebirth Kara is complete and utter trash, though. The first 4-5 issues were a chore to read and I've since dropped the title. Shame, because she's one of my favourite capes.

You can't blame Clark for all the destruction in Metropolis(MoS), it was Zod. Superman was trying to put him away from civilians but Zod gave Superman a tough fight. Jesus, no one's respects Cavill's Superman, does anyone?
Dude in Man of Steel, Superman was literally trying to take the fight away from the city, but going up against 3 beings of equal power and more battle experience makes it kinda hard, but no one gives the Avengers any hate for the battle in Manhattan.
My saddest Kara moment was when she died in crisis on infinite Earth's. Over the years she has proven to be stronger than Clark mostly due to the fact that she never holds back.
Superman himself has stated to Supergirl after she was boasting about being more powerful than he is, "No, I just let you think you are." He's twice her size as a man vs woman, he's got over a decade more solar energy stored up, and he holds back far more than she does. He hardly ever goes full out and even when he is going full out, he always discovers that there's still untapped power inside which is what leads to the "Superman is as strong as he needs to be" argument. He flat stomped her ass while they were both affected by Kryptonite when she was under Darkseid's control. Wonder Woman has kicked her ass and Wondy has admitted that she can't beat Supes. The thing about Supes vs Supergirl is that while he is bigger, stronger, tougher and arguably faster, she is quicker off the mark, doesn't hold back nearly as much and he can feel her strikes just like a normal man.
When comparing feats, Superman's far surpass Supergirl's, like hilariously so.

The literal instant it's no longer the 'Superman' as he is instead of an influenced 'Superman', the issue of whether or not she could beat him diminishes by a multitude of factors. Superman behaves, acts, thinks, fights the way he does as he does because of who he is. All of what he is comes from the myriad of moments taught, learnt, and lived. Once that person becomes influenced by an outside force, this case - Silver Kryptonite- you're no longer speaking on an 'Apples-to-Apples' scenario between two Kryptonians.
So, that said, if we take each and every situation where the two of them fought and she 'beat' him despite the reader knowing full well Superman has literally always held back against her through his own thoughts revealed for the reader to consider, I highly doubt she would truly beat him if push came to shove and she reached a point where Clark had no choice but to put her ass down. However, seeing as he's such a boy scout 99.99999% of the time, the idea of him reaching a point where he would need to kill, let alone her, seems moot. Everything else beyond this issue, to me, seems a lot like hypenosis and power creep had a drunken 3-some with artistic banality. Now she's suddenly stronger, faster, better than even Superman. Superman couldn't hope to catch the Flash, but she's suddenly just a step or two behind Flash now in speed? Superman has been placed in situations where his immense strength has spurred modern myth but here comes Supergirl to knock him down a notch because - Reasons. The Superman ethos itself tends to garner a bit of derision concerning just how all powerful he is and why some feel like he's boring because of that, yet here we are with Superman ver 2.0 - Now with 'Vagina' upgrade and it's just naturally accepted as 'Moar Betterer' - again, due to the all mystical, nigh infallible 'Reasons'.
If you're looking for a strong, capable, fun female character, tokenism is not how you go about achieving it.
P.S. She's turning into the DC equivalent of Captain Marvel. That's not a good thing.

It has to do with the X verses the Y chromosome. It's a Y chromosome that makes males weaker because it's really an X chromosome with a piece missing. It's that added piece that makes females superior. Not only do more females survive in the womb than males but females are healthier in general, have less genetic diseases, and live longer.

When Supergirl beat Superman in last season's finale, I remember a lot of hate... where some of that came from me.... not so much hate, but extreme dissapointment. I am a Superman fan first, but I also love Supergirl lately. Now it makes sense, and is not so out there in reality... it was a close call, as it should be than a straight up Supergirl can outright defeat Kal ever single time.

Don't forget the time she removed the red lantern ring and survived. For anyone who doesn't know a red lantern ring replaces the users heart with pure rage. So removing it would mean absolute death. Only two people that I know of have removed it and survived. Those being Guy Gardner and Supergirl ( and before anyone say Hal Jordan his was removed/ replaced with a blue lantern ring) so yeah removing the ring and surviving is an amazing moment for super girl. Also I don't read comics so all my info are from videos I've seen on CZcams so if I got this all wrong don't hate me I just said what I know.

I love how there's like 50 comments complaining about how she's stronger just because she's a female character in modern culture. Sure, some writers might have you believe that they could come up with a half-good reason for that. But most understand there's no backtracking all the OP things they've done with Superman, and how that's affected his character. Regardless, the best decision in my book is to just say they're equal. Even if one wins, it's important to footnote that victory with "He was holding back, but she was going all out." or "He was brainwashed to kill her, but she was just trying to stop him." Something like that, you know.
I thought that the latest version of Supergirl is not "stronger" than Superman, given the explanation that Supergirl is more efficient at absorbing solar radiation I just assumed that we were looking at an example of gender dimorphism. It makes perfect sense, really males and females use their metabolic burn differently. Superman is physically stronger than Supergirl but there are some areas that he just won't quite measure up in. Looking at humans as an example: a man wouldn't be as flexible as a women of comparable build and similar lifestyle but he would be faster. Of course there are going to be exceptions to this but it makes sense in the mind of a biology major at least.
supergirl is such an underrated character. she's not just a female clark. she left Krypton at an older age so she has more connection to her heritage than her cousin does and feels homesick at times. she's younger. and while Superman was raised to be a hero, Supergirl wanted to just fit in and have a normal life. and she has a lot of those real world problems that you'd see in a Spider-Man story
