      @@solarpellets years ago I used this and got my sl1 all the way to the end of ng+6. I decided to kill every single boss on sl1 on the highest difficulty, but I just couldn't beat kalameet. I think I still have the save on the steam cloud for the prepare to die edition. Currently finishing up the achievements on the remastered version, not playing eny self imposed challenge this time. dark souls 1 might be the last game I fully went all in like that, but I suppose I don't have the time and energy for spending 6 hours on 4 kings anymore :D
      edit: holy shit your manus fight haha. manus is great. the flow of the fight is a bit similar to artorias imo, but I never lock on for manus. the magic attacks all have different animations and can be dodged by running towards him, away from him or dodging to the side. if you're locked on you might have some trouble with them though.

      I have been wanting to use the lifehunt scythe for a while, but I'm really not sure how to make it interesting after the backlogs already doing a video with it. I know it might not be your style but maybe you could keep the bleed resistance at the lowest possible, that way it becomes a health managment issue and there is a gimmick that keeps present through the gameplay. also i think doing it in NewGame+ could make it more interesting because bleed with long healthpools is oddly satisfiying and enemies hit harder. just sayin'. i'll be waiting to see what you do@@solarpellets

    I know a lot of people praise the Great scythe as one of the best pve weapons in the game. But recently I did a run where I used the regular Scythe you find in sens fortress. I got it to +11 fairly early in the run for the bump to B dex scaling, allowing me to one and two hit some of the more difficult early game enemies and making quick work of some early game bosses. I leveled mostly into dex and did a fairly even leveling of vitality and endurance. Also ran the thieves armor because its fairly light and has decent resistances also ran the grass crest shield. I got the scythe to +15 just before going to Anor Londo. Havel's ring is also a necessity early game, if you didn't level endurance enough usually taking the gloves off got you just enough equip load to fast roll with the ring. Overall the run was just very fun. Way less frustrating than some of my other runs. It was fun going through the game feeling way overpowered for some enemies and bosses. If you or anyone wants to do a similar run to mine, my early game weapon of choice for dex is the uchigatana, getting it to +5 and swapping out once you reach Sens fortress for the scythe.

    @oomenacka Před 2 měsíci +1

    I love Manus. You definitely dont need the pendant to avoid his spells - you simply need to lock on less and work on spacing. Ds1 becomes much easier when you generally stop locking on to enemies, especially bosses.

    • @solarpellets
      @solarpellets  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I have fought Manus several times since making this video, I've beat him hitless twice without the pendant. I understand his attacks far better and can dodge them 90% of the time. He still sucks to learn. If you're attacking from neutral and he decides to do the combo or shotgun and you don't have the pendant, you simply can't avoid it. You have to stay mid-range until he attacks, then counter attack if possible. That's the only way to safely fight Manus, with or without the pendant, and that sucks. Locking on makes the fight far easier, you can see him better and there's literally no negative to it. You lose omni-directional rolling, but the game is built around it. I have 600 hours in the game, it's not like I don't know how to fight bosses, it's that Manus throws away the design philosophy of the rest of the game, making him annoying to learn.

    Hey! Great video as always.
    Regarding the accessibility thing you mentioned, and as a soon to be video game programmer (5 months to graduate and start looking for a job on the field). This is my personal opinion:
    There are a lot of aspects that come into play whilst talking about accessibility, and it doesn't always relate to difficulty selections.
    The accessibility comes in many ways, such as visuals (Yellowish paint in the climbable or interactable elements of the games, such as in horizon zero dawn or tomb raider, they can help the visually impaired and are also great for regular players). The controls are also a great deal when it comes to this kind of things. I have a friend who only has one hand. He tried really hard to play Elden Ring but sadly had to leave it because there are simply too many possible inputs.
    The infamous difficulty selector is more often than not detrimental. When the development time for a videogame is just so short it isn't always enough to have a good game out by the date the publishers make you have it, let alone having a difficulty selector that gives you actual changes in the game. Usually, as you can see in The Witcher 3, it's only beefier health bars.
    The accessibility ultimately has to come from better visuals, simpler controls and a design element such as the one in super mario oddissey that helps the player not to die without touching elements from the actual game, it interacts solely with the player.
    But as I said that's my personal take :)

    • @solarpellets
      @solarpellets  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I think the one in Witcher 3 is done pretty well, but only because of how the rest of the game is designed. If you use alchemy, potions, a bunch of good gear, all that, then you should play on higher difficulties to actually get that challenge. If that's not your thing, then lower difficulties would be better for you. In the same way, dark souls "difficulty options" are available to you if you don't have good reaction time or whatever. I don't think a difficulty selector is inherently bad, it just makes it easier for developers to not implement actually good mechanics lol. Most of the time that falls on corporate, not the devs, since they just don't have enough time, though. That said, it is interesting that most accessibility comes down to visuals and controls, I never considered that at all

    • @Dani1234543211
      @Dani1234543211 Před 3 měsíci +1

      You raise a really good point. Devs are badly exploited due to the release dates of videogames. Videogames are a bad investment, economically speaking, because they are huge hits or giant failures, the more money you invested on it, the greater the risk, so companies are just desperate to release on time to start another project. (There are exceptions tho)
      For changing gameplay on difficulty sliders as I think it should be done you should have to create different attacks for the enemies, enable ones, disable others, change % of attacks being used. But normally there isn't time to pass through the game and check what should be changed for every enemy. And even if there was time, it would be invested in other areas of the game.

The bleed damage was only really a problem with the Four Kings, and even then because I got greedy and wasn't paying attention. Still, apparently killing the last king with the same hit that kills you with bleed still counts, so all that really amounted to is a very stressful trip to recover 80K souls.

  • @kevgmei
    @kevgmei Před 2 měsíci

    Max DPS and a high burst damage mage were probably the most fun I've had with this game! You probably don't like Manus because his moves rub you the wrong way. There are bosses any person can hate because yuck. I hate Bed like most other people for example, and I found Mohg and Malenia really annoying just because of how long they took. Pursuers and Giant Lord also suck because DS2 hitboxes. Yeah, Manus is the hardest in the game, but I find his moveset really fun and just hate the run because he also has one of the longest runs.
    I learned from Lobos that you can dodge the attack where he pulls in the big circle of orbs just by hugging him. Shotgun blast doesn't give me too much trouble. 4-hit combo sucks, but it has a 2-second tell where he rears back with a little roar, and that's usually just enough time to backflip away from the slam jam.

      I don't think you can buff infused weapons, but if you don't plan on using buffs, then enchanted has the best scaling. If you're doing anything other than an int build, though, a +15 std is your best bet, and then use DMB, or SLB if you don't want to use DMB. I didn't really go out of my way to upgrade it to +15, I just had most of the materials at that point. I didn't even really go out of my way, just grabbed the stuff as I went through the game.

      I mean, hard != Fun, but even aside from that, so many of his attacks are annoying, unintuitive, or just outright broken. The combo doesn't make any sense, the jumps are weird and annoying, the bead attacks suck, he's just everything terrible about what became of the bosses in DS3 and Elden Ring. He's not a *bad* boss, don't get me wrong, he's still fun, he's just my least favorite boss in the game.

      @@solarpellets See maybe its just the amount of time ive spent on manus specifically (he was my biggest struggle in the first game especially on my first play through) but you can definitely tell what move he is going to do before throwinf it out, especially the combo because he does a big scream before it. id argue the worst in the game is obviously BoC, i think the gwyndolin fight was also pretty bad gameplay wise. not very fun just chasing the boss in an almost infinite corridor. the only thing id agree with is the magic attacks can be pretty BS but after fighting him on my 6th run i had completely learned the timing for all of them without the medallion, otherwise though id disagree with that take tbh i think they did manus great especially in comparison to the bosses that came after in ds2. and personally i love the bosses in ds3 and elden ring i think they punish you for not staying vigilant enough while also allowing you just enough time between most attacks to get a hit or two off in, i think theyre challenging but in an extremely fair way ,(except godskin duo they can disappear and id be happier than ever🙏) but something being your favorite or least favorite will always be subjective so neither of us are truly right in the end! im curious though what is your favorite boss throughout all the from soft games? i think that sparks good conversations as there are SO MANY bosses and so many reasons to like each one!

    Imo curved swords are actually the best possible weapon for Manus, it's kinda bitchmade but the easiest way to fight him is run away in circles while baiting hand slams and the wombo combo, you can hit the hand as a punish, it takes some time, and for some people it can be hard to predict his attacks, but being at a distance constantly helps manage both his aggression and his spells. since curved swords have such fast running attacks(and halberds) you can very easily get at least one hit on the hand after dodging a slam and since he's so far he just can't close the gap in time due to the recovery, trust, if you play super passive for him he becomes the easiest dlc fight

    • @solarpellets

      And then Manus jumps away twice and uses the ring with literally no way to approach quickly enough to avoid it entirely. Or decides to use the shotgun once you're up close. Or you start rolling from the rain and there just happens to be a piece of rubble in the arena that you couldn't have possibly seen coming because it's dark and you don't have to pay attention to them 99% of the time because Manus breaks them. I prefer the spell cast system in every way, for sure. With mana it feels like a waste to use anything other than your highest damaging spells at all times, with, spell casts, it's a waste to not use every single spell you have equipped. Every single level in attunement is extremely valuable, and every copy of every spell is extremely useful. It makes it more about strategy than "use your strongest spell"

    DMB isn't... Entirely... the best Buff in the game, there are some instances where SLB is slightly better, however this requires you to abandon DMB entirely, but for those not wanting to use DMB, SLB is a very close 2nd in strongest buffs (barring Force Buffing any Magic based weapon with CMW... which literally is the best Glitch buff bar none)
    Edit: Didn't use Power Within for that 50% full attack boost and GIANT +30 stamina regen boost, allowing for a massively increased DPS and stamina sustain... PW is used in these DPS builds as it's literal "free" DPS boosting, as it's a 0/0 Stat requirement Spell with 1 slot requirement, that heavily boosts all forms of damage... and is found REALLY early into the game for the best buff in the game period.
