The FRIK mod has finally made Fallout 4 VR a Real VR Game

- Fallout 4 VR has a funny history. Fallout 4 came out only a year prior and Fallout 4 VR and Skyrim both released as wildly bare bones VR ports but though mods and a vibrant modding community, Skyrim VR has flourished while Fallout 4 VR has taken 7 years to get the ability to hold the guns. The gameplay difference FRIK makes is unreal and if you're looking for the complete mod list, it's in the last Fallout 4 VR video's description and in the Discord server.

I was entirely expecting that mini-nuke in the intro to go off.
it does eventually
A mod that lets you football mini-nukes like Liberty Prime is your dad would be pretty great.
That was the plan all along, to subvert our expectations!
Ma’m, I’m sorry that you happen to be the subject of my unrelenting curiosity, but I really just can’t hold back the question anymore: who draws all of these LGBTQ+ pfps? I keep seeing them, and (to my unartistic eye) they all seem to be drawn in the same style. Is it one really efficient commissions artist? A bunch of “ghost artists” who can draw in the same style? I have been struggling for this question for ages, and I simply couldn’t stop myself anymore. I’m sorry that you had to bear my unhinged rant.
@@KincaidCalder-vn6booh it’s just picrew, I used to use it a while ago, it’s good for making pfps and the like.
The IK in FRIK is *definitely* for "inverse kinematics" which is a form of procedural animation used for the arms.
and FR is Fallout Realistic
I was shocked homie couldn’t see that right in the mod page…
Inverse Kinematics is where you know the end point of an arm and you work out the required angles of all the joints to get the arm to that end point.
Nerd
Nah, it stands for Fallout fouR In virtual realityK
thanks habie for highlighting my mod. Still tons of work to do but i'm so happy people are enjoying it even in the state it's in. If anyone has any questions or needs help hit me up
Thank you for your hard work, I'm really enjoying my current playthrough! Gotta love having hands.
@@LinusWP nice! glad to hear
Are manual reloads possible for Fallout 4 VR at some point?
@@Overlord598 yeah i'm working on it
Would it be possible to have rifles in my left hand and pistols in my right at some point? (I’m right handed but left eye dominate)

@@toasterkolin9951 i love you ❤️
I'm still mad you betrayed that child in ghosts of tabor
I still can't believe how long it took him to make that nuke in the basket, lol what like 15 minutes 😂
Dont worry they added a cat so now habie also made the chillds cat an orphan
@@itselliebeans6623Boutta make him an orphan ☠️
I bet the night vision goggle are part of the mod that made it too dark for you to see at night. Modders be thoughtful like that.
Yup I have that installed
VRIK for Skyrim was Virtual Reality Inverse Kinemetics (IK being an animation thing where bone positions and angles are calculated in the heirarchy that makes sense, so that say, you move the hand bone forward, the elbow bone rotates to allow that.)
So I'm guessing it's just a BS acronym where they put F for Fallout instead of Virtual.
yep plus i thought pronouncing it as "FRICK" was kind of funny
I think Skyrim has weapon collision working now for fighting humanoid enemies.
@@KD-_- it does. the physics engine for skyrim is far more understood than in fallout. it's all possible to get some of that stuff in but is going to require a mountain of work
@@RollingRock16 ah that's nice i was confused for a second if whether you were the mod creator or not for a second
I am really looking forward to when the FRIK Modder puts in Manual Reloading, when that happens my Fallout 4 Series can truly start.
maybe in the summer? once i get some house cleaning stuff done and get it a bit more stable it's the prime feature i want to work on
@@RollingRock16 If you add that then fallout 4 would feel almost like an actually semi full vr game
@@RollingRock16
that’d be a lot of work, especially if you plan on including manual weapon functions and unique reloads. i’d say the best way to do it is to create a feature where the guns only functionally reload once the player has completed certain actions (not sure how that could be implemented), such as reaching for a spare mag, picking it up, and putting it in a certain region on the gun. maybe you could create a set of frameworks where the player has to put in a mag and rack a slide, or put in a mag and press a button, or put in a mag and then be done with it, and per weapon the framework and the areas and features of the operation regions could be manually changed. maybe the best route for things like pump or bolt actions is to modify the guns themselves to be single shots that only reload once the player has operated the bolt, but that would open another few issues.
@@themilkman6969 a lot of good ideas thanks. yeah it is very tricky since so many guns are so different.
the hardest part i haven't quite figured out yet is how the animations work and how to get control of them. in theory i should have able to stop and start them at will but it's something i need to figure out. once i do then it's just a matter of hooking it up to the wands so that certain gestures or button presses near mag or slide meshes initiate it.
i already have stuff reverses to fire off the whole reloading and also to control ammo counts in the gun and mags so that part will be simple to manage. so things like tactical reloads can be done easily.
it's really just the animations that trouble me so if any of you out there know a bit about how the animations work under the hood and got some advice I am all ears for it.
@@RollingRock16 YO! if you're the modder for frik you're a freaken legend! Thank you for responding that definitely made my day ^,=,^

90% chance FRIK stands for Fallout Realistic Inverse Kinematics.
Inverse Kinematics (or IK for short) is a type of animation based on positioning, it's what makes animated character's hands stick to a table when they're leaning on it and such. The IK in this mod being your hand sticking to the gun as a support for example - you move the hand supporting the barrel and the whole gun rotates to follow. Forward Kinematics (or FK) is the other type of animation, based on rotation, this is what's used when a character waves or moves their arms/legs.
In short: IK allows you to move one joint on a character and the rest will follow to make that movement work, FK allows you to individually rotate joints for intricate motions.
Thanks for educating us
Bro your knees popping when you crouched down was so funny. Then when you commentated them cracking I was light headed. So funny
this new frik update is making me wanna play fallout4vr even more . reaaallly want that manual reloading and also more physical interactions though ..
That takahashi-Codsworth interaction was awesome
I had so much trouble with FOVR mods, Surprised you managed to get it to work well. When I walked inside a building my hands/shoulders were suddenly detached from my body and floating above my head when stationary and when I was moving it hovered infront of me blocking my view lol.
Its a miracle they exist at all, especially FRIK, but dang... maybe I'll try it again.
modding bethesda games be like that sometimes. i have had inordinate amounts of trouble modding skyrim while others have a buttery smooth time, but fortunately for me and unfortunately for my sleep schedule, i am incredibly stubborn. i probably have more hours in MO2/nexus than i do in skyrim itself. hell, i learned how mod creation works just to fix a broken mod.
It takes a lot of trial and error. I took a Saturday tweaking and modifying load order and what not. Now it’s awesome to play.
It’s just very tedious to get things to work. But I bet if you dedicated some time to it and tested it every time you add a new mod you’ll end up getting it.
You’re one minute early. Not okay, Habie.
One minute BLACK
7:55 “to enjoy while you eat food or excrete old food.” I started the video pooping and ended it eating toaster scrambles ®️
that's a pretty quick turn around bro
Hope you washed your hands.
I want nothing more than to have that fallout 4 vr experience with haptic gloves and a stationary treadmill vr thing.
And an update that lets you actually reload the guns (but that would take some serious stuff. because the guns play an animation. Someone would probaby have to make a vr version of every gun.
Your first Fallout 4 VR video was the first video Ive seen of yours, been subbed since. Crazy how much you have grown, happy for you bro, keep up the great work
'A heavy blindfold that can play video games' is the best way to describe VR
Habie I am here for you man I love how you interpret VR games to video summaries, you make amazing content 👏 👌. Keep up the excellent work
The knee crack part had me in tears XD
Hi habie I really enjoy your content, and I wanted to thank you for making content like this, it helps me learn more about vr games and I find it really entertaining
Awesome videos and content Habie147, please keep on posting your awesome videos and content!
The forbidden "yellow marshmellow". My new favorite habie line.
1:47 Hey that's me, literally ate dinner watching this lol
Been wanting to play through Fallout 4 but I keep pushing it back. Doing it in VR as my first real experience with it could be interesting.
I literally may be the only one who does this but when habbie drops a video I want until I have peace, and quiet and will not be disturbed by anyone and just vibe for 10 mins. Saves my mental state sometimes
Dude you are the reason I love CZcams. This is the content I like, and you always manage to make me giggle. Hope to see you out in the VR world someday. Cheers 💙
You are my favorite VR content creator thanks for so many laughs, ya make amazing stuff.
@2:53 In this video you said something that touched my soul in a way that is indescribable..Well done.
Love your channel Habie your videos are one of the only things that bring me joy anymore
I've been following FRIK for a long while now, and as you did I found out it updated not too long ago. So I went down a rabbit hole of just looking up everything about it. I think the mod author has said he has ideas on how to fake realistic reloading and it won't take super long to implement it. So hopefully by the end of the year we will the Fallout VR we should have gotten.
The frick mod? The frick mod?
The mod so good they named an art gallery after it
WHAT THE FRIK
Thank you for the info on skyrim and fallout. I think ill be looking forward to this.
habie can you father my children
Stamin-up? Really?
I prefer deadshot tbh, it incentivizes skill instead of making the game easier without much effort

In one of the versions your right hand actually does the loading animations!!!!!! When I saw that I was SO SO SO SO HYPED!
Even the modded weapons!
Lmao I actually was eating while watching this! And yes I did enjoy the video! Thank you for all your content!!!
I found out about this channel thanks to your first Fallout 4 VR video. A few years later we're back to monke, i love this
The only "appointment television" left is Saturday morning Habie videos. I get off work Friday and it's the thing I'm most looking forward to about the weekend.
Typing that out makes me think it might say more about me than it does the videos.
habie, you make having vr worth it. ill let my quest sit in my closet for weeks at a time until i see one of your videos and i get excited about vr again and pull it out, thanks for all you do! you are definitely one of my favorite creators

It's crazy just today I was installing Fallout 4 VR to mod it, and your video timing could not be more perfect.
I play fallout 4 VR with my gunstock. The left hand just kinda sits there but it adds a level of immersion I just friggin love in this game.
Bruh....... This update has been out since 2022 if not sooner but glad you having fun
5:27 im glad im not the only one whose knees would kill them in the apocalypse
I still remember you hitting 10k and the real Habie's death on Livestream years ago. Love your channel so much.
Never seen your channel before but I was actually looking into a vr headset and got eye strain and wanted to see what fallout 4 looked like on vr so great timing lol
No Habie, thank YOU for bringing plenty of laughs, smiles, nostalgic memories and information enabling us to get new games + mods to breathe new life into them!
Thanks Ronan. Love your work.
I remember when I subbed to you you were at around 40-45k subs, and now you’re about to be at 800k soon to be a million 😭😭
It also works great with a gun stock, it was sooo satisfying when I was using my sniper and got a headshot
I just got that FUS modpack for Skyrim VR to work the other day, having the best fun i've had in Skyrim yet. Praying the Fallout 4 modpack devs update theirs to include this.
How did you encounter Stay With Me? Was it also that dance video commemorating her?
I was happy to see you’re running the fallout 3 ghouls mod. I had to do the same for my current playthrough, they just look so much better
0:57 FRIK: FullBody Inverse Kinematics
Thanks for the entertainemnt while I eat my PB&J
The 2 handed mod has been up for quite a while now
ive been getting back into fallout 4 and it is true immersion is more important than air
There's a F4 laser rifle mod for H3VR and I can confirm yanking that little release toggle and slapping a new butter battery in is satisfying as all heck
Man always makes good videos
i was eating toast and when i got to the outro i had to literally pause and do a double take, get out of my walls habie
i was indeed eating food, and i did giggle. many times. Thanks for the vid as always!
FRIK actually had its dual handed update a while ago. The power armor save fix is pretty recent though.
I can't wait to play the Whispering Hills mod with this!
Hey, if you want to load a Fallout 4 pistol or a Laser rifle, the mods on Hotdogs, Horseshoes and Handgrenades has all sorts of guns. Deep Rock, Fallout, Titanfall, CoD Zombies and so on.
You can't fool me Habie. I was ready for the berut explosion both times.
Great timing. This should hit that algorithm hard.
5:29 this man is, has history has foretold, the crunchiest man
Hey habie? You're awesome. Thanks for making videos, dude.
I had giggle in transit! Thank you
after work? mad respect for the biggerst smooth brain, cus he still works on top of his channel.
the channel members section wasn’t scrapped after all, absolutely devastated
Your fallout vids are the best. Ever thought about live streaming a play through, it’d be good content for a second channel
Fallout Realistic Inverse Kinematics
I don't know about the first two but IK has to stand for inverse kinematics. It's a part of 3D animation where you can move a whole chain of bones with a single bone and an angular solver.
how cool is that. Playing basketball with a mini-nuke in fallout 4. The perfect use of vr.
As someone who has been subscribed for what feels like quite a while, and also likes GZW, that video had me crying laughing
"and his knees cracked alerting every mutant in a ten mile radius" im sobbing bro
At a guess? Fallout Realistic Inverse Kinematics. IK always stands for Inverse Kinematics and the other two are just good guesses.
(Inverse kinematics is a common technique for determining the body's position based on the position of individual elements, eg hands where controllers are, head where the headset is, and feet in contact with the ground below.)
Thank you Habie 🙂
thank you sir for making me briefly giggle while I ate my food
Excellent basketball skills habby
ive been patiently awaiting another fallout video
Literally just now looking for a fallout four like VR game and I upon this that was upload five hours ago. Crazy coincidences man
this is the exact update to VRIK i've been waiting for!
Habbie i love your vids i can feel my brain looking like licked soft serve icecream
Playing basketball with a mini nuke has been added to my list of must haves
You're the GOAT VR CZcamsr. I'd love a truly VR Fallout VR, so keep us posted!
Habie’s videos makes my smooth brain feel gooder 😂
honestly not calling your own helicopters is kind of a wickodly chaotic way to play, never know where you'll be going, who your with, or why you're there and it's a good time
It's always nice to be back. Btw I just got a MQ3, if you ever want to try something with lots of players in it you can count on me
probably fallout real inverse kinematics, inverse kinematics is what basically allows you to physically move your real hand in a position and make the 3d arm model with its bones and rifle or objects moving along with it
it was so nice when he stoped the channel members thing
0:54 some times i forgot how wrong fallout 4 weapons look with it being held by a right handed character(in this case he holding it in vr) but the bolt being in a way made for left handed
You did in fact give me giggle as I ate food. That you sir
H3VR has a fallout laser gun mod. It is very satisfying ejecting and replacing the battery
4:43 dont feel bad i think most people enjoy seeing you being supported by others
this is making me want to finally cave and save up for a vr headset...
