I would find another similar model and fix that body a to replicate a car that didnt get in a fire and get it running and then take the burned nova to a shredder to get rid of it. I know you can find something. I am not being a smart ass but reality says you are wasting good money for something that isnt worth it.

I drove it to 106,000 miles, sold it to a friend he drove it to 235,000 [had to replace distributer cuz the teeth wore down] he sold it to another friend last I heard it was up to 495,000, just like the Energizer Bunny, just keeps going and going. Wish I'd kept it cuz I could have saved thousands on all the cars and trucks, had after. Joke is I no longer own a vehicle at all. Good luck with yours, luv the paint job !

You need to find someone who has a dustless blaster system. Its a sand blaster with water and glass so the metal doesn't get heated and have them blast off all the burnt back down to bare metal. Its super fast and they do it in your front yard. Its like a power washing reveal but better when all the rust and paint disappears 👍

I understand the desire to add the fun parts. And I hope to see more of it in this build. But I also hope to see some of the not-so-glamorous work of making the car structurally sound; fixing the rusted out floor pans, the rear shackle mounts, etcetera. These are the things that make the car safer, and more reliable to drive. Please pay attention to these aspects of the build as well.

  • @fat_biker

The problem with having a Kevin in your toolbox is that when something needs slightly more uggaduggahs than you can give it with a standard tool, it's very tempted to reach for the Kevin to get the over-torqued bolt off, rather than working out how to achieve exactly the same thing with the use of leverage. You need long breaker bars in your toolkit, Mook. And maybe a scaffold pole to put over the ends of them for extra leverage. Basically, you need to get involved in ordering tools for the shop that are more Mook friendly on top of whatever Kevin buys :-).

    • @JunkyardMook
      @JunkyardMook  Před 2 lety +12

I have my own tools 😊 including longer pry bars and whatnot. The problem was the space, not a lack of tools. Working in the wheel well doesn’t allow for much space.

Fun watching Mook wrestling the toasty toad, get those frame rails repaired and add ladder bars to it, those monoleafs make it buck like a bronco. Drop in a 350/350 combo, even a two barrel would get up and go and still get decent gas mileage. You go girl!!! Almost forgot, quick burgundy paint and a toad skin vinyl wrap. Toad graphic on the hood at least. Thing to watch out for on those sixes is the distributor bearings/bushings. Grab the rotor and see if it wobbles around, mine was so bad the rotor rubbed the distributor cap trodes. funny part was laying plywood over the engine to lay on while pulling the distributor, a stray kitten crawled up on my back and fell asleep. Worst part was it was doing that claw-claw thing snagging me thru my tee shirt. Luckily the neighbors daughter wanted it for her mom, I couldn't get it off my back as it kept latching on. Ugly green Pontiac Ventura. RIP

Your comment on shocks doing 80% of a suspension upgrade is so damn true. 7 years ago I bought a clapped out, 20 year old BMW. The first thing I did was upgrading the shocks(just orange Koni non-adjustable ones, not very high end) and the car instantly rode amazing, tight but forgiving like a modern car, even on kinda worn out bushings, saggy springs etc. By now I've upgraded the whole rest of the suspension, every single part: Springs, poly bushings, tierods, swaybars, stiffening braces, swapped some bushings to spherical bearings, steering guibo. Shocks were BY FAR the most noticeable improvement.

Really really liking the look on that paint -- you know what it needs a slight Flame Job power adder.
The grill is just too unique to replace - needs spiky wrought iron cemetery fence upgrade, because that thing screams back from the dead Graveyard Car

73 Nova!! I had a 73 Pontiac Ventura which was an awesome car, except it rusted out so badly I couldn't keep ahead of the body work. Yeah, and it was a 4 door, and yeah, it was an inline six cylinder 250... but it was a great car. Never let me down. I used to think how great it would be if it was a 2 door, with a 350 8 cylinder under the hood - but I'll never know now. The Nova's were the Chevy performance cars, and the Ventura was the Pontiac dork car - but I was a dork and I didn't really mind.

Awesome video, glad you’ve got super sponsors! I had a ‘78 Nova with the straight 6 in it, while it wouldn’t set any land speed records, it was still a fun car to drive and I’d certainly love to have it back. Looking forward to see what else you do to this survivor!

Just wanted to let Kevin know what I learned when I was doing mechanic work take the front bearing and washer off and start the nut back on and if you drag it just a little as it's coming off it will pull the rear bearing and seal and leave it on the spindle

Hey Mook, they may have done told ya but the front brakes were worn odd because with drum brakes you have a leading and trailing shoes, the shoe that goes in the front is going to measure from top to bottom of pad material shorter than the trailing shoe, the material length top to bottom will be longer, the trailing shoe goes on the back because that's where the most pressure is leveraged at, which is why the shoe on the back will have more brake material, just a lil bit of knowledge from a boy in the capital of Kentucky 😁

I used to work for a company that used a machine shop near where I lived for powder coating. They only did powder coat work for us and we only used, black, silver, red or the old pc beige. I went in one morning and had to wait to pick up parts as they had to get a motorbike frame powder coated red in the oven before the boss rolled in.

years ago i had a 1972 B100 Dodge van (yeah im that old) i put Micky Thompson gas shocks and sway away ft and rr sway bars and wow that van handled like a sports car! it was nuts !! later it got 3/4 ton front disks and rear axel as well as a 340 and trasns out of a duster . i also put in a gear vendors OD. . it was eventually was upgraded to a B200 and then to a B300 blowing alley the real long 1 ton all got the suspension like the first. the B300 got a 440 that was scary and would drag a house off of the foundation. keep up the good work your vids are fun and funny

The left rear Nova suspension has a tendency to sag more than the right side. Get some tires/rims that fit under the wheelwell, that way you won't need that spacer on the upper left rear shock. Either get the rear leaf springs re-arched by a spring company or buy new multi-leaf springs. Get rid of the rear spring extenders and get some multi-leaf spring perches. They are thicker than the mono leaf perches that you have on there now.

    Hey love watching junkyard milk.
I noticed one problem with the brake shoes the primary is where the secondary should be the first shoe the kits would be the short lines shoe and the second shoe the one on the rear of that assembly would have the most brake lining …that’s part ot the problem .
    Love you guys .
