I’ve been trying to find the right words to explain this for years, and I’m still not sure I found the right ones here. Nevertheless, here’s my attempt. Love you all.
I love that your mission is not to ignore the bad history of whips, but to help people realize that though you can’t change history, you can change the future. And if using whips in a comedy and entertainment act is how you do it, then so be it.
Absolutely. Whenever people talk about the past and slavery in any given country, someone always gets angry because it’s “unpatriotic” or “offending their heritage” but the message is to improve on the past, not blame people for actions.
My family lost everything in the Civil. I am thankful for that. I never celebrate my heritage nor do I feel guilt over it. I recognize it for the evil that it was and work to do better than they did.
Long triggering story incoming: I was whipped as a punishment during an extremely abusive relationship. I have scars all along my back, down to my knees. I couldn't hear the sound of a whip, even in film, without it triggering a full reality-breaking flashback (all senses involved, no recognition that the real world exists around me) until I stumbled onto your videos. Your humor, passion and education has made the sound much less triggering for me. It still reminds me of what happened, but I'm no longer thrown into debilitating flash-backs. So thank you for being you and helping those of us traumatized by them to heal by giving us safe exposure therapy. I can't speak for anyone else, but you have made a huge difference in my life.
Hi, I’m sorry that this happened to you. Thank you for being brave enough to share your story. I wanted to reply to this to help it be more visible, because this is a very meaningful comment.
I'm really sorry you had to go through that, some people are just monsters. But I'm glad that you are here. You are a really strong person for sharing that with us, and it's really heartwarming to hear that Jack ze whipper is helping people in the most unexpected ways ❤❤❤
People who get offended by this and try to connect his show to racism are OBSESSED with victimizing. They just can't stop seeing racism in everything. They invent it where it doesn't exist. It's fine to advocate for equality, but people need to stop carrying it out to an unhealthy degree. It doesn't require privilege to enjoy the show. It's 100% about the perspective people choose to take on it, because the show was never intended to harm anyone in any way.
@@Deliarosiewhat you’re forgetting is that there are still people living who have witnessed the effects of whipping firsthand. There are still people living who are getting whipped.
I appreciate your self-awareness 💝 It doesn't hurt anyone to acknowledge privilege. It helps us to see where others are struggling and gives us the opportunity to practice compassion
I one time made a leather bullwhip because I was SUPER into Indiana Jones. It took months of prepping and doing, but by God it was a thing of beauty. I got to play with it once before someone got the wrong idea. Police were called and months of hard work went down the drain. I was at my house, granted I was like 14, and in the backyard. They had no right. I never tried to make another
Jesus you where a kid ffs, they could've educated you and asked why you have it etc. Yanno gained some insight into intentions and educationed you so you stay to your original intentions but instead they assumed the worst and confiscated it
I watched a great video on making a small 3ft long nylon whip. Much more complicated than I expected, but the smaller size both made it more functional and less...frightening? I have no aversion to whips, so I didn't even think about that, but I can accept and understand it.
As a black man.... thank you for this. My family has gotten on me for being a fan of yours, because of the tools you use for entertainment. And ... simply thank you. I hope to see you live in Person. Thank you for all the laughs and smiles
I feel this. I'm a black man in the south... It took a while before all the shorts stopped having a tinge of discomfort for me. But the content is legitimately great.
I never even thought of this thank you. And thank you for being open minded and taking shit. There's definitely some assholes out there playing with whips for the other reasons thinking they're cool or whatever. I'm autistic and I'm always learning new things about racism because I ignored it since it didn't make sense to me. Logic shows we are all humans etc. probably good I grew up in Pennsylvania 😅.
As another Black woman, whenever I see his videos in this manner, I always think "so happy I found him through his show first, otherwise I'd miss out on some amazing humor." And not just that, but the human aspect with how he works with the crowd too. And that was the part that got me hooked. His shows broke all preconceived notions before they could form because the entertainment factor was the key in it all, and I love that about his work.
For me growing up, whips were almost magical things. A cord that could sound off like thunder. Moving so fast, your eye can’t track it. Then I watched people do super precise things like blowing out candles, tearing paper in half, or splitting an apple off someone’s head. I learned later what else whips were used for, but it didn’t really change how cool I thought they were. They’re tools, no different than any other. A hammer meant for nails can be used to break kneecaps. A sword can be used to slice bread. The tool is not evil. It’s the people using it that decide.
This is the most poetic, well spoken, and probably the most inspirational comment I have ever seen and I fully agree with what you say. We need more people in the world who are as kind as you.
It's just like guns... they wanna try to completely get rid of guns in the US but they don't seem to understand that the gun isn't the issue, it's how easy guns are to get and when idiots get ahold of it, it goes downhill very quick.
What a lovely post. I am a black woman in America. I am happy to say, never once when watching your awesome talent and humor, have I thought about THAT history. Still, thank you for the thoughtful words and kind awareness. You are succeeding at your goal. Thank you so much for all the humor, skill and general entertainment! 🤍
Thank you for making that clear. I grew up being whipped as a boy. The damage and scars are life long. I have NEVER been triggered by your videos. Your love of laughter shines through. Thank you!! ❤🫶🏻🤟🏼
Can I ask why there even is a stigma? Like I get whips were used during slavery and such, but there aren't very many people alive let alone on the internet who've experienced slavery firsthand. Why would someone have a reaction to something they've never experienced or been through?
@noname-gh1vr There are still people today who suffer this as a form of punishment. A lot of people would never even make that connection, but if you completely forget history, then it is guaranteed to repeat itself. Stigmas come from the past, so that is why lol
@noname-gh1vr Sure, chattel slavery doesn't exist in the US anymore. Racism hasn't gone away though. Pretty easy to get racist with a whip. It's important to distinguish it between the two
@@Gyowei racism hasn't gone away, but it's in no way still associated with whipping people. No one in modern society is whipping people because they are racist.
@@noname-gh1vr I've met people who were whipped as punishment when they were younger, it depends on where they grew up as well. I feel lucky to have never experienced it.
I walked on the crew team my freshman year of college. I was the only black man on the team, and likely had been the only one for quite a while. We were training on the rowing machine when the assistant coach brought out a whip and stared whipping to set the pace, yelling at us to go faster. Apparently it was a tradition, but not one I had any interest in. I left practice and when the coach called, explained that I just couldn't practice like that. I was more focused on the whip and the stories my grandmother would tell me about seeing old men and women with whip scars on their backs when she wss a child. The coach apologized and they stopped using the whip, and I was a startinf eower all 4 years. I love that you address the elephant in the room, and you make it something meant to be positive, not threatening.
Very nice sentiment, it's very heart warming... but I can’t get past growing up in the circus and learning whips at age seven, that's a cartoon character backstory and I'm here for it.
I understand the implications. But, it never once crossed my mind the "toxicity" and "history" tied to the whip itself. I just see an entertainer who uses a whip.
Right! Like, the history of the sword is quite literally a very brutal & bloody one, & yet no one looks at someone doing HEMA, or who has decorative swords, & imagines them going to war killing people
@@BooksandBunsI mean...have you seen the people that typically have decorative swords? Maybe it's for the best, but in a lot of cases swords have become a joke. And at this point we're far enough removed from them that they're mostly a novelty.
@@smol-one my father has a decorative sword on his mantle, I don't know what you mean. Also, there are many people who, like Jack, practice swordplay & know how to use the swords in ways reminiscent of old techniques. They are far from 'a joke'
@@smol-onekatanas are a joke bc of those people, not as much with the decorative swords (though I do understand where you're coming from, its a matter of which corners of the internet that you frequent tbh)
I've never met a carpenter without scars. The point is not to forget the blood and pain of our past but to learn from it, do better, and build something greater than what came before.
Almost like we should acknowledge and teach the history we come from rather than whitewash or pretend it never happened, so we can learn and grow and also empathize with others.
@@haldouglas4773 I didn't take it as a snarky tone, but simply them adding to the conversation. Perhaps I assume less malice than there is, but it didn't feel rude to me. :)
despite my personal experiences with whips, never once have yours triggered me or the memories to come back. your art is very healing, please never stop
Ngl I've been watching you for so long I never really thought about the implications of your art aside from the "haha bdsm" aspects Seeing you doing it in public while wearing formal wear gives a completely different vibe
I thought about it but never let it stop me from giving his performance a chance and it's a choice that I don't regret one bit. Yeah whips have a very dark history but what this man does is nothing short of art.
Oh i am definately one of them! I suffer from burnout (plus depression and anxiety) and broke down in march '23. Somehow i came across your chanel one night (in spring of last year) when my mind was going absolutly crazy and i started watching your videos. For a short time i was able to calm down, rest my thoughts and enventually go to sleep! You have no idea how big of an impact your videos have. I'm doing so much better now (due to therapie, meditation aso) and i just love when a new video comes up on your chanel! Thank you Lots of happy thoughts from Germany
i love this. as a black person, thank you for acknowledging the history of whips and working toward mending the pain they have caused by using them to provide joy. your content and performances have always brought me so much joy- and i will forever be thankful for that. lots of love to you, Jacques
When I was younger, there was a guy who would practice whip tricks and stuff at our local park. He would bring a couple caution cones to set up to make sure people didn't get too close, and he would put this poster on the one facing out to the rest of the park (he practiced by the woodline). I can't remember exactly what it said, but it was something like this: "I'm in the circus. I'm practicing for my act. I don't use them to harm anyone. I don't use them on animals. I know they have a long history as instruments of pain and hate. I hope to help people see them as instruments of art and entertainment one day. Please do not fear me. Feel free to observe if you'd like, or ask questions, just stay behind the cones for safety. Thank you, have an amazing day." I would talk to him sometimes, and he was a very kind man. You remind me of him. Keep doing good, and improving the world around you ❤❤
Good on you for being mindful of the effect it may have on people and for knowing the darker sides of history behind whips. And thats the core of it really; being humble, respectful and receptive to others--and like any great entertainer, knowing your audience! Keep it up!
See the fact that you're willing to acknowledge the Good the bad the ugly and strive to make something that is a historical negative and try and turn it into a fun and creative way to express your individuality and to bring joy and happiness to millions of people is amazing
There's that sound. The same sound one can make with a leather belt. It's a terrifying sound for many, because PTSD *literally* rewires your brain, you have to WORK to get past that... And yeah, it can be hard to move past that first flinch. But it's worth it. You're absurdly talented - not just with the whips (SO much harder than people think!) And honestly, the whips aren't the *important* part - they're the gimmick, the sizzle that draws people in to try the steak. The steak, the HEART of what you do? The laughter and fun? THAT is the important bit, and i search for new vids of you at least once a week. Thank you
Your videos have helped me through a lot of dark moments, including thoughts of sh and suicide, your humour has helped me get into better moods or even work up the courage to ask for help, I want to say thank you.
I found you last year, and I have been an absolute fan of yours. Definitely planning on seeing you perform in 2024. And I can honestly say, granted from someone who doesn't experience that hate that it didn't even occur to me that it could be taken that way. You have never given a single indication that you are anything but an amazing all-inclusive comedian
Beautifully said. I'm unsure when Cpt. Steve Rogers began using whips, but I'm glad he's made this (sincerely) thoughtful, self-reflective statement acknowledging the discomfort this can cause for some.
I hope you will continue to post things like this video. They open eyes of people like me who habe benefited from the status quo and never considered that this might be painful for certain segments of our society.
I really appreciate that this post made you aware of something many of us live with everyday. It's not about "wokeness". It's about empathy and caring about your neighbor. Good on you 😊🤍
As a black young woman, I've only felt uncomfortable watching you a couple times. When i felt like someone could see me watching it or judge me for not turning it off. (I grew up with a mother that refused to let go of the harm done by these tools in the past) Even before you made this video, I feel like I could tell from your outward joy and content that these never meant harm for you. And you'd never harm someone else with these tools. They're just a way for you to express your art and joy!! Which makes me happy! You're content makes me laugh and smile, I can only hope to see you in person someday! ✌🏽
What you do is an art form. There's only so many uses for whips anymore in the modern day, and this is a healthy and admirable new use of an ancient tool with an often unpleasant history. But like many such tools, it's about who is using it and how that's the most important thing to remember.
Given how toxic this platform usually is, especially when the edgelords get upset by being reminded that racism exists, it's so refreshing to see how compassionate, caring, and kind the comment section is on this video. Either you're doing a really conscientious job of curating the feed and removing trolls, or you've attracted an audience entirely made up of good people who have a fine sense of empathy; either way, it's an amazing testament to your character.
I think this is all I want rom people. Just acknowledgement that this is something. It helps me know that you aren’t being callous or ignoring history rather you move forward with your understanding of it.
Thank you so much for including that disclaimer💗 The amount of empathy and respect that you’re showing for everyone is a really beautiful thing. I’m glad that you’re doing what you’re doing in the world💜
As someone who’s never seen your live show and only known you online thank you for addressing this. It had crossed my mind whether this was something that had come up in your show, and so I’m glad that you are using your platform to address something that has probably (maybe?) been on a few peoples minds. I really appreciate your honesty on the background of the whip being used in horrendous ways in the history of the United States and around the world. You do have an awesome energy and I hope that you continue to make new friends and let people experience, joy and happiness through your show. Happy new year! ✌️
It's fascinating how such an innocuous object like a whip can be transformed to represent something dark and horrific. Whips have historically been used for some of the most horrific human suffering imaginable. Thank you for using your talent to spread joy and laughter with an object that's been used in so much pain and trauma
Whips have always just been associated with cattle-work to me, as bullwhips were used to redirect large groups of cattle to get them to head for pens. Horses and dirt bikes/4-wheelers could be used to push, but the whips were for those on foot. I only learned about trick whipping when a distant cousin began teaching it to his grandsons (which made me sad cause my grandfather died before he really taught me anything aside from just basic whip use). Watching you reminds me of my grandfather, and it makes it all the more funny for me to watch you sing along with it.
My story is nowhere near as intense, visceral, nor personal as many others who have commented here and I don't want to talk over their experiences, but my first impression of bull whips came from a carnival worker who used a long one to intimidate kids at the fair from misbehaving on the ride he was running (just snapping it in the air), and it scared the hell outta me because I'd never seen something like that before in person but I could still tell it would have seriously hurt someone badly if it hit them. It's still almost the only thing I remember from that county fair over 20 years ago because it felt so hostile and out-of-place. I really appreciate what you do and how you do it, because your approach has all the humor and positivity that was missing from that first encounter. It's an impressive skill, and I wish the guy from back then had figured out a way to use his skill in a way that wasn't intended to flex harmful intent and scare children. I'm glad I can genuinely watch your performances with a smile on my face.
You definitely spread joy and laughter for my wife and I. We hope someday for schedules to line up to come see you in person! Thank you for sharing your talents with us!
Idk why I never considered how crazy seeing you train would actually be. The ending made me realize that you really learned how to use whips so you could hear applause on demand lol. It’s crazy to hear the echo
This was beautifully put. Simple, but safe & firm with what you stand with on your whip cracking. Please keep entertaining all of us, you do a wonderful job at this 💜
I like watching your videos because you're funny, creative, and I can tell you genuinely enjoy what you do. Your videos make me laugh and smile. You're awesome, Jaques.
I understand what you mean about 'making people uncomfortable' when you practice. I started whip cracking of my own after finding your stuff and was called racist when I went to practice.
@@k.b2457its not playing victim. The amount of times J had to have heard someone call him racist among other remarks had to be enough to push him to make this video as well as alter his content. This man is sharing that the same has happened him. You need to learn the definition of a victim.
Jacque's point is that HIS whips aren't "THEIR" whips.... Many people in many cultures may have been torn by a lashing whip. But Jacque has no intention of malice when he uses his. He uses them like a musician playing the drums for entertainment; not for war or oppression. Quite frankly, it's not fair to tag someone else's sins on the people who didn't even exist during the crime. He's not rallying hatred. He's not even hinting at it. If anything, he's getting suggestive about some kinky fun time with Ses Carny.
Thank you for this. I enjoyed your channel from the first time I found it, but you are absolutely correct in that it can be jarring to some. I do hope we as a society can bridge that gap because the art of whip cracking is really freaking cool.
I have PTSD and it’s been about five years. The sounds of fireworks doesn’t bother me as much anymore but for some reason this really does. I saw your other video before so I appreciate the context. Just wanted to put in my 2 cents
"But for many, the image of a man who looks like me cracking a bullwhip is not a comfortable one." Wow, that never even occurred to me. The only things I associate with whips are the circus, The King and I, and Indiana Jones. Thank you for acknowledging this history.
I'm such a fan, and I'm delighted that you are thoughtfully and patiently promoting an artform you feel strongly about, and providing a new thought process for people regarding that form in the future 🤩😊
As a black women it’s never ever crossed my mind that you’d ever use those to inflict harm to others. I enjoy your videos, and the sound makes my neurodivergent brain go brrr
I had never once thought of the historical side of things when it came to your shows. I was honestly taken aback by the fact that I didn’t think of it. Ever. Not only do you try to make people who are uncomfortable comfortable, but you also help people like me see and check my privilege. Thank you. Much respect.
I truly hope no one has ever inferred negativity on you! If they have, I hope your example of fun entertainment dispelled their personal pains. Been a fan for almost ten years and every moment on stage you deliver joy.
Jacques, you've seriously been there my whole life. I remember my first ever RenFaire in Larkspur, back when the event was much smaller. You've seriously been a part of my life since childhood, and I can't thank you enough for helping teach me and so many others that life is so much more than the worries and bad things. You can laugh, joke, sing, dance, all these wonderful things that no other species does like we do. I'm so happy to call someone like you a role model, and I really hope your passion for spreading joy passes to everyone that watches you, like it spread to me.
Don’t let the stigma of whips bring you down. You are legend at whip parodies. Keep it up because when ever I watch your songs at ren fest they make me laugh .
It's more than a stigma... it's literally about keeping black ppl in sIav3ry, if not unaliving them. Which is why Jack addressed such issue in the best way he can, in hopes of not hurting people psychlogically. Ya know, thinking of others than just yourself...
I have enjoyed the performances that you post on this social media site! Thank you for wanting to bring positivity to this art! I would like to one day see you in person!
Oh. I grew up in country Australia, the cockies down here had em for rounding up stock and practicing for events like you! I completely didnt realise the actual ...bad stuff (simplicity) that whips had done to folks in the past. And the present.
I reckon your content has helped more than a few people work through trauma and fear surrounding that sound. Sometimes microdosing something that scares you to recontextualise it is the best method, short silly videos are a great example of that.
Love your mission and you have brought me tons of joy and happiness when I have been very depressed and too close to the edge. Love your shows hope someday to see it live. Thanks. ❤🎉
My husband and I love the clips you post of your live shows. We've even made a game of coming up with song suggestions for if ever get to see you live. You've made us laugh so much! Your mission to spread joy is a successful one ❤ I can't imagine anyone seeing you, even in civy clothes, and genuinely feeling "threatened" because you have a very gentle presence. Those of us who've experienced physical abuse/trauma have a radar for people that aren't safe. You've never once "pinged" on my radar. Keep doin' you!
That made me tear up. I don’t know why I never contemplated people thinking that. I understand the history behind it t but for some reason I never put two and two together. There are many things in this world that were used for bad but are now used for good and it’s because of people like you. I found your CZcams on one of my darkest days and yeah you made me laugh. You gave me that minute of happiness that I needed in my day. You helped me take a second to think about how not everything will be gloomy and it helped me take those kinda days in stride 👍 thank you for what you do 🫶
I used to only think of whips as If instruments of torture or at least weapons. When I found your channel and started seeing how you useit made me want to try it as well... That's probably gonna be a long way off. But still you've legitimately changed how I look at whips forever in a more positive light.
Thank you for this, a lot of people wouldn't even care about the possible feelings tied to it. Your shows are amazing and have opened up a whole new world for me full of fun and light when before it was scary ❤
If he enjoys what he does and isn't actively hurting anyone, he shouldn't give one flying fuck to what anyone says about it. When people tear your sense of expression, joy and creativity away from you, then they're a truly evil person.
for me, the sound of a whip crack just brings me back to the times I'd visit my grandfather's cattle farm in rural tunisia. Goddamn I miss him. He died about a month after I moved to Australia when I was 15 cos of an undiagnosed melanoma. I miss him so much.
I have used whips on & off most of my life (calm down folks - it was for cattle herding, lol). I love watching your videos, and my husband says he can always tell when I’ve been binging on your videos because he’ll find me out in the yard practicing, even though I no longer (normally) herd cattle anymore. Mostly I just do it to make sure I haven’t completely lost the ability, but muscle memory is definitely a thing. To be clear, I’m nowhere near your expertise, and I’m always in awe of your ability to crack whips WHILE making up lyrics for songs at the same time. I’m lucky if I don’t trip over sunbeams, so I’m always amazed by anyone who can do two things extremely well at the same time lol. I would happily come to your shows, but unfortunately you’d have to come wayyyy up north into Alberta Canada for that to happen. I quite enjoy your videos though, so hey - at least there’s that!
I have used them half my life too, and I have never been “attacked” for using them the way I do. Because vanilla people usually don’t enter such places, need to be kinky ;)
When I was much younger I went a couple of times to a park to practice my martial arts kicks. Because I knew that there was every possibility of a small child getting close to me and getting hurt by my actions I retreated out onto the fenced-in tennis court. I did it because there was only one entrance point and I made sure that I was always facing that entrance point so that way if any child came I would be able to stop what I was doing in time. Apparently somebody took offense to the concept of a kid quietly practicing their kicks and didn't appreciate all the safety precautions and called the police. I never bothered to go out in public again to practice even though I wanted to.
For anyone worried for animals that are herded with bull wips, you don't hit the animal with the wip, the crack sound by the wip is what is used to redirect them not the wip itself, sometimes accidents do you happen, and the animal might get hit by the wip, but it is not intentional as injuries to the animals can be vary costly
Is there a seated way to crack whips or a place I could learn about that? I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user and can't do standing for long periods of time. I'm still interested in learning but I'm unsure where to find resources
There might be professionals near you who can help you learn. I might try looking into stage combat courses. There might be a performer there who could help you learn.
Whips come in different styles. A whip like his, that has a short handle and is maneuvered close to the body might not work for you, but a buggy whip, with a long stiff handle, would be more manageable. There might not be as big a range of tricks you could do with the buggy whip, but I'm sure there are at least a few that would work for them. I can't say for sure, but when I was a kid, my oldest sister's best friend had horses, and used a buggy whip for training (not actually ON the horses, more using the sound for desensitization, so they'd be less likely to startle, or as a directional tool, cracking it to one side or the other to steer the horse), so I know there are some neat things you can do with them, and they're designed to be used from a seated position.
You simply need the right type of whip. Do the reading to find out what suits your needs. You'll probably have to use a stool so that the whips don't catch on a wheelchair.
I do love that you have enough presence of mind and self relfection to know this about yourself, and to call it out to help put others at ease. I know I'm not the demographic likely to be uneasy with the imagery but it is admirable to know you take the effort to help others.
Man I frickin love your shows so much. I don’t know if you understand how much I actually appreciate your humor and the skill that you present with whip cracking. One day, I might want to learn also as a hobby
Aww I love this! My friends always make fun of you and I’m always the one to defend your profession. I love what you do and I want you to know that you have so many supporters!
Honestly never even thought about that aspect of history with whips. I'm from down south and work at a livestock pavilion, whips are used to herd cattle and as performance during rodeos. My boss has a whip in his truck for runaway cattle or for just having fun with
This was my thought too. Yes the imagery in regards to slavery era America is hard… but what about the mass shooting era we live in? If I heard that in a park I would assume I needed to grab anyone around me and run/seek cover.
I'm usually pretty good at seeing both possible sides of a story even without being told, but I honestly never thought about the negative impact of whips until now. I've grown up with whip cracking as an artform to be admired, though the only time I've ever cracked a whip myself, I hurt myself. To all those with trauma related to whips, I'm so sorry I didn't think about their negative uses, and to Jacques, please keep up the fantastic work and keep trying to repair that damage
As an Australian, our cultural association with the whip, is of the Stockman, and cattle herders. It's always been tired to framing and agriculture. Apart from....errr....extra curricular activities. So sometimes we aren't aware of what it might mean for others, in other parts of the world. Thank you for the education. As well, thanks for being a stand-up wholesome person, who cares enough to share their perspective and try to make the world a better place

It's fine to advocate for equality, but people need to stop carrying it out to an unhealthy degree. It doesn't require privilege to enjoy the show. It's 100% about the perspective people choose to take on it, because the show was never intended to harm anyone in any way.
Same. It is a privilege. It’s an implicit bias privilege and I feel very blessed to feel the same way. I wish it was so for so many others…
@@Deliarosiewhat you’re forgetting is that there are still people living who have witnessed the effects of whipping firsthand. There are still people living who are getting whipped.
I appreciate your self-awareness 💝
It doesn't hurt anyone to acknowledge privilege.
I never tried to make another
That’s a bummer. :(
They indeed had no right, especially if you were by yourself... and a kid. 😪
Jesus you where a kid ffs, they could've educated you and asked why you have it etc. Yanno gained some insight into intentions and educationed you so you stay to your original intentions but instead they assumed the worst and confiscated it
If it had been a gun no one would have likely cared
Your family is ass, bruh...
As a Black woman I feel this. But he's definitely become one of my favorite people to watch. This video was really great. 😊
As another Black woman, whenever I see his videos in this manner, I always think "so happy I found him through his show first, otherwise I'd miss out on some amazing humor."
And not just that, but the human aspect with how he works with the crowd too.
Kudos for being the least "CZcams comment" youtube comment I've seen this year so far.
For the record, that's a compliment.
Beautifully put!
For me, it was also the sound of thunder. Making the air itself something you could not only hear but also touch.
It's just like guns... they wanna try to completely get rid of guns in the US but they don't seem to understand that the gun isn't the issue, it's how easy guns are to get and when idiots get ahold of it, it goes downhill very quick.
wise words👌
What a lovely post. I am a black woman in America. I am happy to say, never once when watching your awesome talent and humor, have I thought about THAT history. Whenever I think of a whip I think of Imdiana jones, and I'm 7 years old again playing lego games on my wii all over again.
Same here! Loved the indiana Jones lego games lol
I know it’s probably just a typo but I had to read Imdiana Jones out loud and laugh😂 thanks for the chuckle

Oh man, my assumption of your age changed SO DANGED DRASTICALLY in that last few words you typed 😅.
As a black man, all i see is a man having fun and making people laugh. I love your videos and how much you are helping the stigma❤
My thoughts exactly. It’s all about intent. And this is entertaining!

I've never met a carpenter without scars.
The point is not to forget the blood and pain of our past but to learn from it, do better, and build something greater than what came before.
As a carpenter, I can concur
Almost like we should acknowledge and teach the history we come from rather than whitewash or pretend it never happened, so we can learn and grow and also empathize with others.

i love this. as a black person, thank you for acknowledging the history of whips and working toward mending the pain they have caused by using them to provide joy.
your content and performances have always brought me so much joy- and i will forever be thankful for that. lots of love to you, Jacques
🙄 And what pain have whips caused YOU or any black person today? Ill wait
When I was younger, there was a guy who would practice whip tricks and stuff at our local park. He would bring a couple caution cones to set up to make sure people didn't get too close, and he would put this poster on the one facing out to the rest of the park (he practiced by the woodline). I can't remember exactly what it said, but it was something like this:
"I'm in the circus. Thank you, have an amazing day."
I would talk to him sometimes, and he was a very kind man.
Keep it up!
No shame on everyone else for being so sensitive.
Thank you for this response. Repping healthy awareness, thank you for putting it into words!!
Kudos to you for being empathetic to what the whips may mean to some, and articulating it with maturity and grace.
That's talent. We grew up with whips, leaning to use them can be seriously painful
It's fascinating how such an innocuous object like a whip can be transformed to represent something dark and horrific. Whips have historically been used for some of the most horrific human suffering imaginable. Thank you for using your talent to spread joy and laughter with an object that's been used in so much pain and trauma
It's so important that you can acknowledge and talk about it!
I believe you do an amazing job at both making your shows feel like a safe place and bringing smiles to many people
Whips have always just been associated with cattle-work to me, as bullwhips were used to redirect large groups of cattle to get them to head for pens.
Thanks for saying something about it. You've given so many so much joy with your act.

I like watching your videos because you're funny, creative, and I can tell you genuinely enjoy what you do. Your videos make me laugh and smile. You're awesome, Jaques.
I understand what you mean about 'making people uncomfortable' when you practice. I started whip cracking of my own after finding your stuff and was called racist when I went to practice.
you are playing victim when you could've explained your intent and your craft. This man did it correct you? not so much.
If anything, he's getting suggestive about some kinky fun time with Ses Carny.
him being a role model to you also means you are gaining sensibilisation on how to practice while still being aware of its history.
Oh poor baby how ever will you overcome this tragedy
Thanks for the reminder that many things can have a bad history. Keep spreading the joy.

That made me tear up. I don’t know why I never contemplated people thinking that. I understand the history behind it t but for some reason I never put two and two together. for me, the sound of a whip crack just brings me back to the times I'd visit my grandfather's cattle farm in rural tunisia.
Crack on Sir! You are doing an amazing job of bringing joy to others.
It was always meant to be a tool. But there are ALWAYS bad people who misuse tools. I'm glad they are in your hands, too, as you use them right.

I can't wait to see your show in person. I've always seen your shorts here on YT and I'm always entertained. ❤ Love what you do!

Please Never stop being awesome!
Reframing the whip narrative is admirable
You’re awesome, Jacques. Love your content and your message ❤
You make me happy just watching you practice
As an Australian, our cultural association with the whip, is of the Stockman, and cattle herders. It's always been tired to framing and agriculture. Apart from....errr....extra curricular activities. So sometimes we aren't aware of what it might mean for others, in other parts of the world. Thank you for the education. As well, thanks for being a stand-up wholesome person, who cares enough to share their perspective and try to make the world a better place
Love what I get to see of your work online, man. Would love to see you live sometime!
i’m always thoroughly entertained by your stuff. i hope you get out my way someday so i can see you live without travelling 1k-miles.
It just occurred to me... But on New Year's do you just crack whips for your friends and family instead of using fireworks?
Why do I find the whip snaps satisfying, the echo it makes is even better 😭
In a way your joy and comedy can heal people who’ve been hurt, or bring light to any dark notions
