  • First sound test reaction video of the SVS SB 3000. I also give my opinion on the SVS SB 3000 vs SB 2000 Pro.
This is my initial reaction video to the SVS SB 3000 - in this test I listened to scenes from Top Gun, Interstellar, Lone Survivor and the THX Gensis sound demo.
See my final review on the SVS SB 3000 if you want to know more.
    NOTES:
The SVS SB-3000 is an upper-mid priced subwoofer from SVS. Its cabinet is ever-so-slightly larger than the SVS SB-2000 Pro, and the driver is increased in diameter to 13 inches.
It features a high excursion 13 inch driver that's powered by an 800w RMS Class D discrete mosfet amplifier.
On-board you also have the SVS app which allows you to directly access the subwoofer's DSP and make key adjustments.
This subwoofer is also related to the 3000 micro - the only way I can see is that they potentially share the same amplifier (both 800w Sledge amplifiers). Other than that, the designs are totally different.
The SVS SB-3000 comes in a choice of finishes: gloss finishes and a black vinyl wrap.
There are two ranges that sit above the SB 3000 - that is the 4000 series and the 16 Ultra series. Both of those are markedly more expensive than the SB 3000 - that's why I think it's one of the best overall subwoofers available today for households.

Hi Cushty, first of all great channel esp with subwoofers. I first saw your 3000 micro reviews and demo and immediately jumped the gun on it. after several days I found this review and felt I made the wrong decision hehehehe. I'm currently AB testing 2 of your top gun demos on 2 separate tabs on my browser I would like to know if you did use the same high quality mic with a stand on your micro review to this 3000 review? my dilemma is should I add another 3000 micro or sell this and get the 3000?
thank you Cushty and more power to your channel.

I just got the sb3000 today, it's hooked up to a set of klipsch the sevens connected to my 77 inch C2 oled. The sevens have a sub out but not labeled lfe. Does it matter which connection I use on the sb3000? Either the lfe or other rca connector not labeled? Should the lfe be disabled in the app or enabled?? I'm still learning how to set it up. I plugged it in and messed with the settings a bit, I played aquaman 4k bluray as a test and it sounded good but it seemed to maybe bottom out a little a cpl times. It wasn't turned up a lot. Any tips on setting this up using it with my klipsch sevens? Any info would be helpful! The bass from it in aquaman was strong! I have this set up in my bedroom which is a smaller room, probably overkill but beastly!!!😅

    • @propercushty
      @propercushty  Pƙed rokem

Gain and EQ - set the subwoofer gain to about the 10 oclock position and let the amp calibration do the gain and EQ work
Crossover setup - if your amp calibrates the subwoofer then doesn't really matter just whack it in the LFE port and turn up the crossover to maximum - your amp will do all the crossover settings digitally.
Easiest way to set it up is above - if you want to tweak it further you can add some minor personal adjustments in the SVS app

Hey, hoping you could give a view on this... you seem to be unique in that you've had an tried both subs.
Back story... recently bought an Arendal 1961 1V and unfortunately the size just didn't work in my room and placing it in the corner which I intended gave me some weird thing where I could localise bass (which honestly did my head in, so I can't keep it - despite shipping costs to return).
This gives me an issue as I was planning to move to ported, so I either look at the XTZ 12.17 edge as it has a smaller foot print and may pass the boss of the house, or the SVS SB-3000 which keeps me in sealed and ultimately a smaller box. I currently have an SB-2000 (not pro) and it's a great little sub, wife friendly, but it's really missing a punch/feeling that the Arendal seemed to address somewhat, so now have an itch to scratch!
Ignoring price as keeping the Mrs happy will potentially out way some costs, how do you think the XTX 12.17 and the SB-3000 compare?

      Hi mate.
I don't really have much faith in either of those products to be honest.
If you're looking for a good set of powered stereo speakers, then you are better off buying studio monitors at your price point. They are much better value for money in general.
      Popular Models include:
      1) Yamaha HS5 or HS8
      2) M-Audio BX5, Bx6 or Bx8
One of the best options would be Tannoy Gold 5, 7 or 8 if you can afford it.

I've heard of the build, but never heard the subwoofer itself.
I think DIY is definitely a good route to go down - you do save considerable amount of money. Another bonus, if anything goes wrong like a driver blows up, you know how to replace it (just buy new parts).
I think one of the best subs you can buy right now that involves an element of DIY would be the CSS Audio SDX12. For its size, that sub pretty much smashes anything at the moment.
If you're after a new subwoofer I would check that out

Absolutely love your videos so you make sure you keep doing what you do best.
You certainly know your stuff... being a musician probably helps!
After watching this video you make me want to go out and buy a nice big sub, so I got a question for you... knowing you've also got experience with rel subwoofers, if you were in my position which means a small 4 × 3.5m (13 × 11.5 ft) room with two baby rel 8" T5i's in rear corners, which subwoofer would you go for not just to help with the deep Lows but to work in conjunction with the rels or do you think I should stick with what ive got knowing ive got neighbours to consider! The thing is I had a 12" sub before but it was just a cheap and nasty and whenever I used to play music with it (which I really shouldn't have) I used to get complaints from my lovely neighbours! I'm just thinking so long it's not a cheap and nasty and I don't play music with the new 12" sub, I might be able to get away with it!
Be careful before answering because if needed I'll be pointing you out to my neighbours 😳

    • @propercushty
      @propercushty  Pƙed 2 lety +1

Ah! You are stealing this man's idea hehe! I'm looking to build a similar sort of setup at the moment with different subs for LFE and separate for 40hz+ bass.
What speakers do you have? Was it the Rubicon 2's? If it's bookshelf speakers and you want something for LFE duty, then it's hard to beat the BK Monolith or Monolith Plus for the money (downward firing unit looks like a coffee table if you buy in wood finish). A little more money and you get the PC-2000 Pro which is the cylinder subwoofer I reviewed a while back. That is quite good for saving space.
Yeah hehe - 'we must respect the neighbours 😒'. If you're listening to music there won't be much difference as most music doesn't have huge levels of information below 30hz anyway. In action movies your LFE sub will be going off all the time, just make sure you watch at a sensible hour. At night time, just switch to a different profile using your AV receiver - like a night time mode where the LFE sub is switched off or something.
That's what I'd do. I certainly wouldn't forego buying a subwoofer if that makes you happy in life - would the neighbour do the same for you mate?
I guess also depends if you have a good relationship with the neighbours aswell - if they're alright you can just text them when you're going to be playing back some LFE.

@@totalplonker824 I'd also consider those Wharfedale Evo 4.2's mate. Benefit being you get the 3-way layout (so a dedicated mid) and they claim their downward firing bass port helps a bit when placing near boundaries (like rear or side walls for example).
They're also very well priced - Wharfedale obviously feels there is no need for upgrade in their line-up all the way up until the Elysians which are 4.5k.

Dude I’m gonna hit you up to design my whole system. What are your feelings on high end second hand speakers? I saw b&w 800D for £7k on gumtree. Do you think it’s worth the risk or better buying firsthand?

    • @propercushty
      @propercushty  Pƙed 2 lety

Hey sorry for delayed reply - I took a few days off youtube to clear my mind brother!
High-end second hand speakers are typically an awesome buy. The new market for those products are very overpriced, because there is a limited market, so profit margins are much higher (I know as my job role was a speaker buyer in my early 20's).
Also, you're paying much more VAT on a ÂŁ10,000 luxury speaker set, as VAT is a percentage-based tax. So you pay approx 2 grand tax on luxury speakers, but mid-range speakers you're paying only a few hundred quid in VAT. Unfortunately alot of what you're paying (when new) goes to the taxman - so you won't necessarily gain major improvments in sound quality.
However, only advice is make sure the speaker parts are still sold and will continue being supported. If anything goes wrong, like a driver blows up or something, you have to be able to source those parts. Perhaps give B&W a call to check. It's rare a driver or tweeter blows up, but it happens.
I'm a musician and I have some background in sound engineering - so let me tell you about the B&W 800 series - have you heard of Abbey Road Studios? It's probably the top recording studio in the world. For decades they have used B&W 800 series speakers as their monitor of choice. So yeah..they will definitely do the trick mate!
But it also depends alot on what you're actually using the speakers for? What's the intended usage?
Hope this helps - let me know if you have more questions

  • @Pentenfi

If you use 2 subs in a modest sized room, you will get an addition of 4-6db at the lowest frequencies due to room gain. Below the lowest room mode, your room considers sources of bass placement independent.

Just bumped into this video. Great review. I am currently running dual PB1000 (old version, not pro). Would it be an upgrade to go with one SB2000 or SB3000? Just a single sub, not dual.
The struggle is - should I invest more time and $ into purchasing a miniDSP (+ microphone) and try setting up my PBs properly, or would it be just more simple to go to one sealed sub to get more accuracy and punch + 1 sealed sub will look better.
I am only one person who cares about the sound in the family, so "even bass across multiple seats" is not an issue. Although, I have to admit that when I stepped up from one PB1000 to duals, I heard the difference..

    • @propercushty
      @propercushty  Pƙed 2 lety

Not sure if gonig from a PB to SB will be an upgrade - it's more of a preference for what sort of frequencies and dBs you are wanting to target.
With a ported you're typically prioritising strong response below 40hz at the expense of distortion, transient response and raw dB above 40hz. You'd expect the SB-series to 'hit you harder' in that 50-80hz range where many dynamic sound effects are (kind of the hit you in the chest region of frequencies).
However, below 40hz we are passing into the final octave of human hearing - this contributes to that feeling of scale - for example, the resonant sounds of a passing tank during a battle scene, a dinosaur walking around in Jurassic park, or a great example is the ridiculous sound effects during the wormhole scene during Interstellar.
My feeling is to make something sound realistic, you have to try and not trade off any of those regions - but for me, the region between 20 and 40hz is particularly important if you want your place sounding bigger than it really is (and sounding more like a movie theatre). I actually run a combination of ported and sealed in my setup and I think it works very nicely actually.
If your main concern is watching movies in a medium-large space, I'd definitely stick with the PB version and look at DSP via your AV receiver or miniDSP if that's your thing.
      Hope this helps

Hello MDT, happy to discover your content: honest and fun 👍
    Keep it up! đŸ’Ș
I have landed on your channel after doing some research on the XTZ subs, then seen your review and other interesting videos
For a 15m2 room, and mainly me or me + 4 kids and my wife, would you recommand one or two subs? the XTZ or the SVS ? It is hard question but thank you for your advice bro 🙂🙏

Hello Hicham - thanks for trusting me to answer your question and for watching my videos.
1x XTZ will be powerful 'enough' in your room - however, it really depends on what your intended usage is.
For example, if you have floorstanding speakers - then I think in this case you will be fine one XTZ 12.17 edge, as it will be crossed over lower for music (maybe 40-60hz). Typically the bass from your loudspeakers will be better quality for music than a subwoofer will be, so it is in your interest to use a lower crossover point (that way, the subwoofer is only playing the lowest notes in the range).
However, this changes when we come to loud music or movies - in movies, the peak bass can hit 115db - very loud.
Why would we want more subwoofers in this case? Because it makes the audio sound incredibly realistic, and big powerful speakers make the audio sound cleaner (not always louder).
So a second XTZ subwoofer may be what you're looking for if you want clean, even bass around your room (from multiple seating positions), and also if you want your system to sound like it's not struggling with demanding content.
There is something very special when your system is playing very loud but it sounds effortless - it sounds much more like real life (because we have more dynamic range and less harmonic distortion).
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further questions :)

    In fact, I auditioned the SB3000, PB3000 and 2000pro.
In the end I bought the SB3000. It's just like you said, agile, speedy! and 'violent' (great phrase). The 2000 is OK, but on another level and the PB3000 does have more impact, but just doesn't have the same magic as the sealed one (maybe speed?). Eventually the size (and weight) came into play. Gloss black, I don't mind dusting 😄
Thank you so much for your advice, also re the DSP part, it was (and is) really helpful.
Btw (offtopic), any thoughts on the Wharfedale 12.2?

    • @propercushty
      @propercushty  Pƙed 2 lety +2

Hi Mike. Apologies for the delay in reply - I decided to take a few days off CZcams to clear my mind lol!
Wow - that was quick! Already got the SB 3000 then...yes the words 'violent' and 'tactile' kept coming out of my mouth during the video - the only two words I could think of on the spot whilst holding a camera. Perhaps I'll get a thesaurus next time lol.
But I hope you see what I mean by that? The SB 3000 just delivers in spades for the price point - such an improvement over the SB 2000 Pro - so much I wouldn't even consider that sub. At the UK price, I just don't think there is any value in the SB 2000 Pro anymore.
Yes, you're going to see the PB3000 have a bit more impact than the sealed version - a little cleaner around the tuning frequency too - so below 35hz it should be better (for movies). But I agree perhaps the SB3000 has a bit more slam in the 60hz and above region which you feel 'hitting you' a bit more when watching movies. It's all compromise really when it comes to hifi.
Wharfedale 12.2 - can't say I've heard that specific speaker, but all the Wharfedale Diamonds I heard before it are pretty much one of the best all-round at the price point.
I think Wharfeldale opted for an ever-so-slightly brighter sound post-Diamond 121 - but it's not actually a bright speaker (just brighter than the legacy Diamond 8.1, 9.1 and 10.1 products).
I think you'll be fine with the Diamonds - although to go with your subwoofer, I feel the Evo 4.2 is worth a try. They're a fair bit more, but the speaker you get for that money is ridiculous when compared with the competition. I feel the Diamonds are also a good choice, but in the price range I don't think they stand head and shoulders above the competition - for instance you have good competition from Monitor Audio and Dali and sometimes that comes down to taste.
But with the Evo 4.2, I think with it being a 3-way design with an AMT tweeter, dedicated mid etc - I really don't think there's any beating that package overall.
Perhaps try and demo it - if you're sticking to a budget then you can't go wrong with the Diamonds, although I'd urge you to also try a set of Dalis in that price range - typically sweet and musical speakers those Dalis are.

Never feel obliged to answer my friend, all good things in good time. 😉 I hope you enjoyed your days off.
I'm insanely happy with the SB3000, as performance can differ at home vs hifi dealer, but if 'feels' even better, literal. I got a nice deal (demo model) with good return policy, so all safe. I just can't describe the immense difference and uplevel vs the Q3060s sub. Can't ever go back now, haha.
My budget stretches around 1000 GBP for speakers. I've been reading about the EVO and some 'warn' about the off axis (vertical) response, where you need to sit in a specific spot re. the AMT. Also came across a KEF R3, but also mixed opinions to be found (can't audition it unfort.). For now I'm going to investigate the EVO further, but if anything else pops into your mind, please let me know, as I value your opinion (Pro audio guys have different take on gear) 😉

@@34332 Really glad you're happy with the SB 3000 mate. I bet there's a whole new dimension to your music and movies now.
ÂŁ1000 is a pretty healthy budget. You certainly have options - more options if you consider good quality used too.
I wouldn't worry about the Evo 4.2 haveing a narrow field of dispersion - in untreated rooms, that can work in your favour because you get more direct sound, hence fewer reflections from the neighbouring walls.
However, if you have multiple seating positions and watch movies frequently, perhaps you'd want speakers with a wider polar response.
In terms of what you're getting - a 3-way speaker with a ribbon and soft dome midrange...you could do a lot worse than that Evo 4.2.
I have opinions on the R3 which I have expressed on this channel in a couple of videos (at least 3 months ago I think). You can check those out if you like.
Overall, I think the R3 is a nice set of speakers - but don't get too hyped on it as it will skew your judgement. I found they were nice - but for long listening sessions - not really.
My opinion is to get a demo of whatever looks tasty to you - if the dealer doesn't let you demo all those speakers then just walk away and go somewhere else. You should be able to demo 10 or 20 units if you want to - definitely don't buy the 'listen in our demo room' aswell. Totally different rooms so this is of little value to you when it comes to your midrange and trebles.

Speaker cables are a bit of an odd topic. Some people rave about a new 1 grand cable they bought - some people can't hear a difference.
I will confess - sometimes I have connected a set of luxury cables and I could swear I heard a big difference - but after testing over and over again (when the novelty wears off), I'm not so sure if I hear a difference.
I haven't seen any peer-reviewed science that places a high importance factor on cables - and most 'measurement' guys don't believe in cables.
I will say pro interconnects like XLR does definitely make a difference over long distances though.
My advice - your room is playing a much larger role in your sound than the cables are. Perhaps look into sorting that out first - you don't have to go wild - but a few adjustments to the room can make heaps of difference...much more than cables I expect anyway

@@hclandscapes I would get yourself some new 99.99% oxygen free copper cable to test directly against the Tellurium stuff. If your cables are 9 years old, chances are there is some oxidation and that could degrade the sound quality when compared to fresh cable.
From my research, I have concluded that 99.9% oxygen free copper cable is definitely something which improves the sound audibly, but everything else is questionable. I've also tried some of that expensive silver cable and couldn't really tell the difference when blind tested. However, this was years ago so probably not reliable.
The Tellurium cables claim to eliminate phase distortion - but my question would be is this audible in a room full of reflections, where every reflection is, in essence, distorting the sound via unpredictable shifts in phase?
I feel perhaps in the most controlled of settings it might be audible, but if you EQ your speakers, that also adds a hint of phase distortion too.
Interconnects is a very tough game, because many swear by these products. I have a few subscribers that invest heavily into cables and they claim to hear the biggest of differences - but in any case, if there is a returns policy on those cables, I would get some oxygen free copper so you can do a blind a/b test. That way you know you aren't buying into the hype so to speak.

what do you think of the Dali Opticon MK II?
    Have you heard them?

    • @propercushty
      @propercushty  Pƙed 2 lety +1

I haven't heard the mk2 in person - but I have done an A/B comparison via headphones (check on youtube) - I can tell the musical signature of the speaker has changed. Using neutral equipment (headphones and amp), it is quite easy to spot that.
However, I can't comment on the in-room characteristics because I'd need to be there to judge that - so, things like stereo imaging, soundstage, resolution, transient response...I cannot comment on.
But what I can tell is that Dali have tried to make the Opticon mk2 a more 'well behaved' speaker e.g. less dynamic bass, less present trebles, more focused midrange.
Whether or not that translates into a better listen, that's up to you.
When I had the Opticon 6 mk1, I thought they were brilliant at stereo music - not alway the most well behaved..but I just lost hours listening to those speakers - one of the most engaging, enjoyable listens in a long time. Typically just make everything sound smooth, present, dynamic, creamy, powerful, upbeat - all the good stuff.
One thing I will say about Dali is you need quite a bit of space - you are meant to position the speakers 90 degrees with the walls (e.g. not toed in). The speaker is tuned like that on purpose. So if you are too close to one speaker and the angle is not right, then the treble can be too harsh.
You kind of have to be bang on in the sweet spot - if you have the room then go with it.
One thing that kind of bugs is me that you only get the hybrid tweeter tech with the floorstanders though - no special tweeters for bookshelf models :(

Today my dealer recommended the mk2 dali's as they are supposed to be really smooth and have warm sound signature, he originally suggested the smaller 4.5 inch woofer but I would prefer the 6.5inch version,
Not sure if they are real wood veneers though? For ÂŁ899 i think they should be really.

I prefer this idealogy because I want most of the money going on the sound and not the aesthetics. Give me some well-performing drivers and a resonance free cabinet please...finish I don't care too much about as long as it looks good.
At the point of diminishing returns then I guess spending more on a nicer cabinet would be acceptable to me.
I wouldn't quite describe the Dali house sound as 'warm' ... though I undersatnd why people do it ... it's a tough one...they definitely have sparkle to them ... I think it's how 'smooth' and 'balanced' the presentation is which others refer to as 'warm'.
'Warm' typically means the trebles are recessed and I can't really say that's the case with Dalis. Their treble is typically quite bright (but enjoyable). If you test them you will probably see what I mean.
Of course the house sound may have changed with the mk2 but for the last 10 years of listening to Dali speakers this is what I can say.
All in all, very natural and smooth sounding..all the good words, but not so smooth/warm that you lose details.

I would try and combine the 3000 micro and see the results - you might get a bit more mid-bass but I think the main benefit might be getting smoother bass from multiple seating positions.
I think the ideal scenario would be two SB 3000 subwoofers, but the only way to know is to try it. You just bought the 3000 micro so perhaps selling this early might be a bit nasty on your wallet.
On the other hand, two SB3000 subs will give you a less distorted sub-bass which you might actually appreciate.
Decisions decisions. Let me know which you decide and how it's all going :)

Been waiting for you to get your hands on a SB3000 to hear your thoughts. I purchased 2 for my HT after Joe N Tell and Nemo Propaganda's reviews. Of course it doesn't hit as hard as it's ported version, but I'm very happy with my setup

    • @propercushty
      @propercushty  Pƙed 2 lety

I think it comes close to other 12 inch ported subs, obviously not quite as much as the PB3000 but you save space at least and for most rooms it's more than enough. 2 of them is easily enough and that's the standard I expect from subwoofers in my system. Any lower down the SVS range and you just give up too much in my opinion.
Only thing I'll say is I can detect hints of distortion in the sub-bass - but perhaps with 2 of them your drivers are working less hard so you'll get even less distortion than what I heard.
Glad to hear you're happy with the setup pal!

Great review! Any idea how the sb3000 compare to the legacy flagship product, the SB13 ultra? I recently upgraded the amps to the Sledge 1200 on two SB13’s and I’m curious what advancements were made to the 3000 several years later? Thanks man!

@@propercushty yes sir. 2 of them definitely even outs the room and allows me to play at lower volumes since they don't have to work so hard. Both of them being corner loaded helps out also.
Wanted to get ported subs but once I hear chuffing, I always hear it and it drives me crazy. The dual 3000's constantly hit below 20hz thanks to corner loading and room gain. One day, I would like to buy pair of Rythmix F18's or G25HP.......when I stop being poor.

@@HiFinest343 Hello mate - I imagine with the SB13 ultra you are perfectly safe and do not need to consider the sb 3000. The closest relative is probably the SB 4000.
You have 1000w RMS in stock design vs the 800w on the SB 3000. That indicates that the SB13 driver is capable of greater output - so you should have a bit more headroom vs the SB 3000.
The SB4000 on the other hand has 1200w so I imagine this is a slight upgrade to your SB13 Ultra. You say you have the new amp now, so perhaps you have a little more headroom - but the driver also has to be able to perform at those levels too. I imagine the 13 ultra will be fine as it's probably very similar to the 4000 driver.
I personally wouldn't even consider upgrading in your position unless I'm going up to 18 inchers, or alternatively dual opposing 13 or 14's.
Arendal make the 1723 2s which is two 13.8 inch drivers in dual opposing arrangement. Only thing is those drivers are not super high excursion like your SB13 Ultra, so the difference isn't as vast as you might think.
If you want more 20-40hz bass, just get a large ported pal!

I do not agree with the feedback on this video about the sb 3000 distortion. There is no distortion on the sub even when played loud. the sub will distort at frequencies below 40hz at relatively high dB. This is a trait of sealed subwoofers and no technology at the moment will solve this problem.

@@propercushty that's a generic statement about any subwoofer being pushed to perform at limits it's not designed for....Your review does not provide any credible data/information for the circumstances under which the sb3000 distorted. If you just heard the distortion.. Then you've either got magical ears or a faulty piece mate. I would be interested to see your measurements of distortion...as from the graphs on svs website, i see a pretty flat response right upto 20hz...below which room gain will add a few db. So i still do not agree with your generic review and inaccurate information. SB3000 perform brilliantly for the function and room its designed for.

If you compare that subwoofer side by side with a good ported sub, you will hear the difference plain as day below 35hz at loud levels. All you have to do is test it yourself and trust your own ears/brain.
Distortion is to be expected given the subwoofer's size and specifications - however, it's one of the best subwoofers at the price point.
Watch my other video on the SB3000 which should include measurement data at the end of the video.

@@propercushty I too like audioholics website and channel. They put all the subs through the same set of tests so the results can be put on a chart for comparison. Distortions that they talk about in their measurements are what you would expect in those tests for subwoofer pushed to its limits but it doesn't imply that there is any affect in the performance under the circumstances they are designed for. However you are trying to conclude that it is degrading the performance, and that's not true. It's like comparing a Mercedes saloon s class S400d with a Mercedes suv GLS400d. They are both s class from merc, but for different purpose. If they both are put through same tests, you will, as expected have saloon 400d not perform to same level as suv 400d for offroad/extreme/heavy load performance tests. If you could show them using some metrics, then saloon 400d would have poor results than suv gls 400d , even though they are both good vehicles for their own categories and intended use.
I really don't understand why you are stressing this distortion out of proportion which is misleading. Anyway i needed to call it out that you are wrong there even if you won't agree. I have used sb 3000, bk xxls400, bk monolith plus, b&w db4 over many years of my ht journey. Sb3000 are perhaps one of the best i have had for the money, size and performance. And there is no audible distortion under the circumstances it is designed to be used for... period!

Try an SVS PB16 Ultra and compare direct to the SB3000.Tell me which one distorts less to your ears. Play a track like Interstellar at reference volumes and see. You think you won't hear that difference?
The subs you've tried are all relatively weak - they definitely won't have any headroom left at reference levels.
The BK Monolith Plus can create more dB below 35hz, but that's a relatively poor performer above 40hz compared to the SB-3000, so no wonder you prefer that over the BK.
We'll leave it there I think. I know there isn't convincing some people!
