    Brock, the reason you didnt love the Crocs is because you gotta lean into the culture of them. Wearing them with the strap is called sport mode. It's been scientifically proven that they're 5x more comfortable when you call the form by its official name

    Giesswein is an Austrian company so follow German pronunciation. When e and i occur together in German you pronounce the second letter, so Giesswein is pronounced Geese-wine, or Geese-vine if you are going for full authenticity.

    I have never gotten more compliments about my footwear than I have while wearing Lems. Have the outlanders in evergreen. (Those have gotten the most. Had 4 coworkers ask multiple times about them.) The boulder summit in rugged bark. And the mesas in safari. (Yes a very obnoxious colorway but they spoke to me.) Lil pop of color in what is often a very earth tone wardrobe.

      shhh! the fad followers don't know about ecco. been making the kinda shoes that are all the hype right now for longer than the founders of these new trendy companies like cp, etc have been alive. I'd like it to stay that way. if they get trendy I will throw mine away. Soft 7 city all day. Just say no to eyelets. The new soft 60 is even better. It's limited release, more premium leather and actually has EVA blend midsole rather than the traditional cupsole, even though Eccos custom cupsole is by far the best one.

    I just wore my Chillums to the store today, they're one of my many barefoot shoes! I made the jump last year instead of confining myself to a life in supportive shoes and orthotics (I overpronate), and I couldn't be happier. It took time and work and change to transition, but I can now walk without overpronating and without joint pain. Turns out overpronation is just bad mechanics and mechanics can be changed. Education is way more important than the shoes themselves.
    Along with that, my toes are spreading out a bit, my feet are getting stronger, my achilles aren't tight anymore since they're at their full length, my leg muscles are more defined, my anterior pelvic tilt is gone and my hips are back to a neutral state, running is actually kinda fun (something I hadn't done in years), the benefits are numerous. The Chillums are the thickest shoes I have, and I wear them without the insole. My other shoes are like 3-6mm thick.
    I find it hard to call regular shoes "comfortable" since they can do so much harm to us. I could wear barefoot shoes 24/7 because they're meant to stay out of the way. If your feet hurt in barefoot shoes, they're going to feel the same whether the shoes are on or off because it's the ground that's hurting them. Pain could also be due to bad form, as doing something wrong is very noticeable in minimal shoes. If your feet hurt in "comfortable" shoes, which they probably will eventually, then it's the shoes that are hurting you.

    Thorough, thoughtful and funny (aka typical Brock) - love this. Especially appreciate the detailed thoughts about Allbirds and their similar competitors. Personal favorites in this category (comfortable, casual, supportive, everyday) are Adidas Ultraboost Light and ASICS Gel-Nimbus (definitely sneakers, but don't lean into an overly-dad or fugly territory).

    I wish Atoms would release their shoes in wide width because they look great and I can't do non wide width anymore. I mostly stick to the zero drop and minimalist shoe brands because my feet rarely feel good in narrow toe box shoes. I'm glad someone in the fashion space tried them and didn't poop all over them.

    The 990v6 and the OG footbed Arizona are two very strong picks. I'm not really a fan of any of the other sneakers you mentioned, but I figure most brands aren't made for comfort. I agree with the general idea that big sneaker brands have some things figured out that the startups don't, including the real comfort... but there's also just something about the recognizable side logos of Nike, New Balance, Converse, Vans, etc. that has a charm to it.
    Maybe try out some Salomons? You like to hike, and they're a more sneakery hiking sneaker.

    great video sir. i went the other way with comfort but ugly and ended up with a $175 pair of altras via olympus 2 that feel like the gods but look like the devil. but hey, a good looking set of ecco soft 7 city aren't that bad when it comes to comfort. Also recently tried the Ecco gruuv and it was quite good as well though runs narrower than most eccos but has two layer insole and you remove one for a "wider" fit. they don't look quite as slick as the soft 7 city but they're a good balance and certainly classy, high quality and will last. I started wearing barefoot style shoes (Xero shoes) and I don’t think I’m ever going back. I’ll also say, even if other people don’t want to try barefoot shoes, it’s wild how narrow so many toe boxes are just for style. It’s clearly bad for your feet to cram the toes together - they should be able to splay and support your body

  • @nerigarcia7116

    A lot of people rave over the Hoka running shoes. I think they're ugly but as far as comfort and support people say they're great. I just bought some Birkenstock Gary, though they're more like an oxford type. I had foot issues as well and like how my Birk sandals felt so I tried the Gary and they felt just as good on my foot, like the sandal but with a suede leather upper. I had to get used to the toe shape but they look good with a lot of styles of pants. Birkenstock has a number of more casual shoes, I'd be interested to know how those feel, not only in comparison to other shoes, but with the Birkenstock sandals too.

  • @jeffhicks8428
    @jeffhicks8428 Před měsícem

    I liked the video a lot however it's a little bit strange. Almost all of these suggestions are for extremely.... barefoot shoes basically. Most of these shoes are so called barefoot shoes. Very low stacks, minimal cushion, no support, hyper flexible, etc. Many of them are literally just an insole + a few mm of rubber between the foot and the ground. Very minimalist shoes. Then. So after you show off all these minimal shoes, your favorite shoe is like.. the most opposite thing you could get from that with the NB990. That's a shoe with max cushion, max support, high stack, highly rigid and inflexible, bulky, etc. It's a little odd. Because it seems like you want to prefer one thing, but your messed up feet actually prefer something totally different. There are two schools to this. One says, wear that monster shoe and you will feel better and have less issues and pain. The other says, it will just make your feet even weaker by supporting them so they never go strong enough to support themselves. Both sides have valid ideas and there is a good time for each thing. But it's just odd. Of all the shoes, it's a list full of the most minimal shoes you can get, then the most maximal shoe you can get. Nothing in the middle. Either 5 mm rubber between you foot and the ground, or 50 mm of most high tech foam with all the gadgets. What's wrong with something that's like a normal middle ground, like a regular shoe.. like say NB arishi or whatever.

    • @BrockMcGoff
      @BrockMcGoff  Před měsícem +2

      Yeah it might be worth testing more middle ground options, although like you said, the two main schools of thought are 1) go barefoot, 2) go pain free (full support). So my thinking is I could use cushion/stability to ease pain while testing barefoot style shoes.
      I do think some of the brands I tested are middle ground, though (Allbirds, Birks/Chacos, Atoms, Amberjack).
      I'm definitely still looking. The goal is to have better/healthier feet while getting older, which is an uphill battle.
      Anyway, thanks for watching!

      @yashawal Před 2 měsíci

      @@BrockMcGoff yeah, my situation was a bit different to yours. I had this growing corn thing under my foot and long story short two minor surgeries didn't fix it, figured out it was due to my bunion and playing crap ton of soccer in squished shoes.
      I got vivobarefoot after researching a lot and the transition wasn't 100% pain free. Ball of my feet hurt for like 2 or 3 weeks but I did get like 4mm sole shoe so yeah. But no blisters, no hurting feet in any other way, just felt like I was working out my feet a bit too much too early. Now even vivobarefoot seems narrow to me after finding out other brands.
      Can you please look more into this style of footwear because it's literally changing people's lives, and i honestly believe it can change yours too if you put in a bit of effort into strengthening your feet even if you're older. Otherwise we have to wear orthotics like arch support for the rest of our lives while our feet get weaker and weaker. Lems boulder boots look good but I'm not the style expert here :)

    No man should ever wear shoes that you can't be physically active in if the situation calls for it. You should always be able to, at a moment's notice, run a mile or fight off someone trying to harass your family. Core to a man's function is that of protector. If you think you can do those things in Crocs or Chacos... be my guest lol.
