    Perez's victory shows once again, that all politics is local. The party needs to find more candidates like her. Locals, well-known in their community and potential leaders. There are gobs of problems in rural communities that Democrats could address, and maybe even work with Republicans on (yeah--I know--GASP)--and they are not necessarily the familiar hyperpartisan issues like gun control. And this woman has some ideas. I've never even heard of "right to repair". Let's listen.

    Gluesenkamp Perez is a rising star within the Democratic Party, and the fact that she was able to flip a Republican-heavy district really shows how powerful she was as a candidate. I am convinced that Washington's 3rd District may be becoming purple after her victory.

    • @rocketassistedgoat1079
      @rocketassistedgoat1079 Před rokem

      She really is a rising Democratic star isn't she, one of many actually emerging. Meanwhile, the proto-fascist MAGA movement have taken over the GOP and nominate far-right conspiracy-theorists with no agenda, just revenge and gridlock.
      Eventually I do want a strong GOP back as
      "a strong democracy requires a strong opposition", -someone,
      but considering not much will get done within the next two years-at least regarding new initiatives-as the GOP have the House: I want them to eat themselves for the next 6-8yrs thanks. Really give the Dems a chance to get their agenda through-and they just might do it too, as Biden's already had legislative wins to rival FDR's.
      And that was before a once in-is it forty or seventy yr? mid-term upset as America said "enough", to; conspiracy-theorists, losing rights, fascism, religious edicts, fixation on culture wars, extremism, permanently angry far-right ego and spite driven politics... it's a very long list, I could go on and on. As Marie Perez said, HOW could you look at all that^ and conclude: yup, that's what Americans will vote for...

    She's from a very moderate district and Herrera-Butler is sort of a hero for being one of a select few Republicans that voted to impeach Trump. It's fantastic she flipped the seat - a MAGA extremist would NOT represent the voters of that district at all! Just north are some of the most progressive districts in the nation encompassing Olympia and Seattle and Portland to the south. Herrera-Butler was an old-time Pacific-NW type Republican who sacrificed her job to do the right thing and her replacement has similar political views and hopefully won't ever face making a decision like that.

She gets to commute to Washington DC on Monday morning, then return on Friday evening? How do you raise kids like that? And let alone draft the legislation needed for her district? She knows what real people that have to work with their hands and on their feet all day are needing and how we feel. Also it’s really obvious to me that we need a new generation that are under 50 in the White House. We need people that are like us. Most of us don’t have money to burn and there’s very few people in Washington over the years that are not already rich. They understand what clear cutting does to the land. "They would reforest if given the opportunity. Same for farmers who understand how to work their land to ensure that the next growing season will have an abundance of crops, either allowing a field to lay fallow or planting a different crop. They have been doing these jobs for generations. They cannot compete with the large corporate entities that have taken over their trades.

    If this woman runs for president one day I think she could win, she couldn't be a more perfect person to unify people right now

    Wow! She is good. We need the people with the graduate degrees to deal with questions that require graduate degrees. As she points out, we don't need people who've read about life in southwest Washington in a book, no matter how well-intentioned, not to understand the situation on the ground. You bring in an attitude of I want to help fix things. That, in general, is the Democrats. That's good. But saying "I want to help fix the problems of this part of the country and telling the people who live there how, when they may very well know how but are stymied by a lack of resources is going to make your sell as a candidate harder, no matter how well-intentioned you are. I mean, everyone should be listening to everyone else in Congress. So many bad things about Donald Trump but "I alone..." is either at or right near the top.
