    About me: I run an online Etsy shop where I sell mostly laser cut goods and files. At first, my business was mainly crochet and knitwear, but I recently pivoted to strictly laser cutting. I really like the infinite possibilities laser cutting brings, and also enjoy coming up with my own unique designs. 😊

    Catherine,
    Thank you so much for sharing this "HOW TO" using inkscape. Grouping, un-grouping, makes total sense now that I see what it does! I have inkscape for about a week, and got so frustrated with it that I hated to even open the program. After watching this video, and your pleasant, clean, and calming voice, I cannot wait to get back on my computer and open up inkscape again. Thank you so much.

    What I really enjoyed about your video is you covered so many different Inkscape applications. I am a total Newbie with the Laser printer. You have given me a excellent Inkscape tutorial with one video. Loved your Pet Memorial too. I plan to make one for my wife. She lost a pet several months ago. I know she will love it!!

    You can drastically improve your photo engravings if you prepare two different image paths. The first image should have a lighter threshold, so things like eyes and outline of the face/body are barely visible. The second image should be a "medium" threshold that accentuates the darker colors and shadows. When engraving, you set the first image to do more of a scoring and the second image as a light engraving setting. This workflow should get you a pretty repeatable 3-tone photo engraving that looks very nice.
    We do this type of engraving on the spot at craft events with our Laser Pecker. They pay and email us a photo, we process the order on the spot, and it's ready by the time they're ready to leave.

      @@85thandPine Hi - does that mean you have two separate images - one you engrave first, and one you engrave next (with more power?) that doesn't go over again, the first image? So you basically have 2 separate layers, that go to make up one image? (thank you)

      @85thandPine  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@MarkTait Hi! I haven't tried it yet, but he mentioned doing a scoring of the first image and light engraving on the second image. You should be able to put the two layers right on top of each other to complete it in one job (just have the settings different for the two layers).

      You're welcome! And thank you! So far, I've used the following 1/8" plywoods with engraving: cherry, sapele, baltic birch, white birch, walnut. I haven't experimented with acacia but I've seen people use that with Glowforge. In this video, I just used engrave settings for medium basswood plywood on my 1/8" cherry wood and it worked well! :)

    As always... great stuff... I ordered your file and took notes tonight on how to make it... i do have a quick question watching your tutorial... I assume once your tutorial ended, is where you would save each piece as a svg and print them on the glowforge individually Correct?

    • @85thandPine
      @85thandPine  Před 2 lety

      Hi Frank, thank you! And yes, you would save your file as an SVG (I usually just save it as either Inkscape SVG or Plain SVG). Then when you go to upload it to your Glowforge, you should be able to search for the saved file in whichever folder you put it.

    Thanks for this video. I need to generate laser G-code but it doesn't seem to be working. My laser is a J-Tech Photonics and I've downloaded the extension. But, that's where I get lost. When I click on it, a dialog box appears with some settings. It shows that I need to save it to a file but a list of locations does not appear. When I type in a location I get an error. If I don't type in a location I get an error.
    Any help is appreciated.
