horrible memories of shoveling & topping bins. We had a store where the bins didn't "blow" out & we had to shovel about 6 Tons out of each one & to fill it up about another 6 Tons shoveling in dust & heat crouched under a tin roof!! We didn't know any better in those days. Pleased we invested in a new store 25 years ago. Just wondering what the "rules" are for climbing down those ladders into the bin bottom? In our younger & foolish days we have been known to jump when there's plenty of corn on the bottom 🙈😯
😳😬
Andrew. Great update once again. Still very wet down here in South Wiltshire. Jan 90mm Feb 168mm Mar 154mm Apr 62mm so far. If we can not get on soon have decided to plant the Spring barley and just use it as a green cover crop!! Great. I have a Striger which I added a Techneat seed hopper to and use it for the Oilseed Rape sowing 750mm row spacing but its fantastic in our third year with it now.
Crickey, you’ve had some rain. What a bloody year. ☹️
Interesting re the Striger. 👌
Thanks for sharing 👍
I once worked at a farm with I bin grain store with the intake pit in the middle and two rows of bins off to either side. I'd finished filling them on one side so climbed up and opened a chute to fill one on the other side then went of to get another trailer load from the combine, came back about an hour later to find about 10 tonnes of wheat spillt over the side of the bin,I'd forgotten change the the direction of the overhead conveyor, spent a whole afternoon of shovelling to get it cleared up
Been there!!!
Bins never looked forward to emptying them. Boss always said every load taken do some shovelling towards the exits
great update andrew
Great Update Wardy, the striptill bar looks very impressive, thanks for sharing
Nice update.
Nice kit there hope weather dries up
Hi great video, it's Wet wet wet, good luck with the weather,
Another great update, those flat bottom grain bins bring back memories, and you had to climb down a ladder to get into the bottom of the bins.
Good afternoon Andrew from a very wet Cornwall. There are several thousand acres of cauliflowers and cabbages grown by the vegetable growers down here using the strip till technique.. I think it is proving successful and it helps reduce establishment costs and helps them cope with the pressure on prices from the supermarkets. Also it gives firmer soil for harvesting during the winter.
Regarding not growing Spring cereals, could there be high prices later as a result of many acres either not being established or producing low yields and therefore making it a worthwhile crop. The straw maybe particularly valuable if you were prepared to bale it for once. Many thanks for the Waffles.
All valid points. 👍
Another great update Andrew, hopefully you will get some good weather to get on with the land work. Be good to see the strip till , and see what results you get.
Great video. Valtra and Amazone drill looks good. Spent quite some time clearing those bins too.
Another fantastic update horrible weather loads of beans for the future
I have shovelled alot of grain when topping of the bins and emptying them out when I was at anderby lincolnshire thanks for your up date will look forward to seeing you use the drip till
Another great update Andrew. Look forward to seeing the strip till working. Windy but warm
In Suffolk today, hopefully a week of dry to come!
Forecast showers every day here.
Good look with the trials, hopefully see Wardyz beanz on the shelves later in the year 😃
😀 It might be a year after that because we’ll need all the seed we’ll get for more farmers growing them next year.
A great video Andrew, what a wet weekend we had in Cornwall 😮
☹️
Morning Andrew. Good to see Henry in both the Telegraph and Mail yesterday (Hopefully others too). A number of negative comments for the articles - simply based on ignorance - but my judgement was majority support for Henry et al. Hope the written word keeps the pressure on the EA and their cohorts.
Hello Trevor, he’s had quite a few tv, radio and newspaper’s over in the last week, so good to keep highlighting what’s going on.
You're right, those bins bring back memories of an arable farm i worked on in the mid 90s.
Just before harvest we used to take 8 bins each side and place the smoke bombs in them.....ladder climb 1. Then we started at the back of the shed working forward and light them one by one as quickly as possible so not to get smoked out.....rapid ladder descent/ascent 2😂😂
😂😂
Great Video as always, Andrew. Be interesting to see that strip till machine in action, the weather looks slightly more favourable for you, here in Herefordshire wet every day with very heavy storms. No prospect of any field work this next week. We have cattle out now ,they don’t like it either .
Grass land is saturated too
might make you jealous but all drilled up and feeling for you boys down south
Thanks!!!!
Next door negbours had that drill on farm last year doing sugar beet trails and seemed to do a good job
Useful to know, thanks Tom.
Good test for strip till , Im sure I would enjoy your baked beans but i am in Maryland USA, great videos
😂😀👍
Good morning Andrew, cracking update again this morning, I to have many nightmares brushing out grain bins, there’s a few farmers here as well that have decided not to put crops in now because it’s getting to late and they won’t yield so there’s no point. Looks a nice bit off kit on that Valtra be nice to see that working and drill all those beans your planting. Keep, the good updates coming. 😊
Hello Jon, we’ll never know if the decision is right!
@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard thing is Andrew you got to make the decision that’s right for you at the time. Surely there can’t be anymore water up there to come down. 😂
Here in Belgium, some of us are also taking the decision to just put in some green cover, since it still seems impossible to get 3 dry days in a row. I think it's to late for spring barley, beans are just coming up😢
Another interesting update as ever, thankyou for uploading the video's. 👌
You’d think not but it raining now. Mon 11.30 pm!
Thought you'd try a Linconshire made strip tiller and precision drill ( Horizon) nearly got stuck mowing the back lawn here yesterday!
Another good video Andrew. It will be good to see you getting some drilling done. What will you do with the land you can't get a crop in to? Will you put a cover crop into it later on or just leave it? Olly runs a Valtra on his farm, they seem to like it. Anyway thanks for now.
Not decided yet re in drilled land. A cover crop would help to dry it out.
Morning we have exactly the same system as you do so I have spent a lot of time in the bottom of the bins 🥵
Not the best of jobs!
Was ok we had 5 blokes on our farm now only 2 of us 👍
Beans means Wards 😂😂. They not in a rush to collect the 360 track machine Andrew.
😂😂😂
Please send us some rain here in Western Australia… 21 mm since October….
Where abouts in Western oz are you greg? Did a few seasons between varley and lake king! Also worked for Tim sampson contractor swaffing up near Geralton! 👍
@@RICHIE87622 I’m now in Perth Hills, was up in Wongan Hills last week & Goomalling the week before.
Great update as always! Looking forward to seeing the beans going in the ground in a month or so… have you borrowed the Valtra tractor to try or was it just there for the delivery of the planter/drill?
The tractor belongs to Amazone. It’s much better demo machines arriving all fitted up to tractors from the machinery company because there so much electronics and hydraulics with some kit, especially high tech ones like this precision drill.
I totally agree.
Demo machines need to be working. Not messing on for half a day fitting it to whatever tractor is on farm and the operator demonstrating the equipment will perform better in a rig they're familiar with.
Ah yea, that does make sense, so it arrives ready to go and optimised for that tractor…!
Had to giggle at the tractor and combination weight of 12.060 kg. That's including a Wardy.............. !!
😂😂😂
Another interesting vid👍but how long can you store your crops etc wheat only that it’s looks like there will be a shortage next year which means a good price for grows who can harvest them or if wheat stores well 🤔
If it’s cooled to around 5° by the Christmas after it’s harvested, it’s quite happy for a couple of years.
Sounds a brilltant way of cropping the field, strip tilling will this mean reprogramming the sprayer /fert etc, and would you be able alter sowing crop in different directions over the years to move compaction?
Pity your fans don’t blow as well in all the bins. Not too bad in the good one , nightmare in the one that didn’t blow it too well. Many hands make light work, hope you have a lot of help from would be gym users.
Be good to see how the drill works in the field.
The bins need investigating really.
Hi Andy, are your tins of beans available.?
Afraid not. We need all the seed we have to put maximum area in this year,
Can you get any payments under the sfi scheme in relation to growing the beans
Companion cropping, yes.
@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard that's ideal, I want to try some clover with spring barley but may cause extra cost of spraying, guess we could put clover in with stubble turnips though
The valtra t4 an t5 are fantastic tractor waddie lad we run 7valtra s on farm 🚜 I work in Ireland 🇮🇪 4 fendt s hate 😮fendt s do been honest an there 3 claas tractor s too 660 Aaron s an big 850 300hp class tractor 🚜 claas r ok ish do valtra s I love always there been sisu valmet s on this farm from 1995 then it was valtra valmet s n then valtra 8000series old models for bullet prof tractor s n then we had All t1 t2 n t4 models n then t4 s and t5 we 4 new 2024 models this from 200to 245hp and there one valtra Q series 280hp tractor too its beast 👍 enjoy ur videos wardie lad 😅alway s
Brilliant report on your tractors. 👌😊
Don't you think land will benefit from having a crop in rather than leaving without ?
Farm sssurance is necessary to maintain uk agricultures standing globally, the board needs levelling. Good role for you Andrew to represent uk ag !
Grain bins are great for segregation and making best use of space available, just need to be more user friendly.
So many more comments i could make after todays brill update but I'll leave them for another day.
We might put a cover crop in to help dry it out. I’ve enough roles!
Strip till machine does it only do that wideth or can it be made to cover ther 12 rows the same as the drill ? Still wet 20mm of rain last week
I’m not sure if they do wider ones but the ones we’re getting is only 3m.
@@WardysWaffleAndrewWard if your using 12 row drill to plant sugar beet G P S system will have to be spot on
@bobcrawford2105 It will! That’s one reason we’re switching to green star on everything, the Trimble just wasn’t good enough.
Not tell you off where’s your mask? Could hear the coughing, as a certain ginger warrior says “danger doesn’t take a day off” free tractor too wow,
I wasn’t planning on going up the bins but heard a noise I didn’t recognise. You’re quite right though.
Great update Andrew we never had storage bins just grain storage shed that is all we needed. What I would like to do is to talk to you about the farm assurance scheme. We have never been in the scheme right from the start so if it is possible I would like to call you but don't know your mobile phone number if that is possible thank you 👍
Are you in Lincs?
Sorry Andrew no we are in Northamptonshire not that far away but still a little way that's the only problem.
@edredden6297 Your meeting was this morning, did you know?
No I didn't know we had it down this way today. The NFU was supposed to tell us but they haven't.
I’ve checked with your CA today and you will have had 2 emails saying where and when your county meetings are. There is a meeting at Newark showground 2pm Wed afternoon and Lincs is 10 am Wed morning. You might be better speaking to one of your County reps rather than me because they can take your concerns to Council.
