    Worrying times for farming on all sectors. Where is the future going of this great industry?! I work for a company that’s decided to sell the farm because of high interest rates and poor prices / crops. Keep the up dates coming thanks Andrew

    Well done Andrew, a really good and informative video. Good to see the cutting of the Miscanthus. There is some grown around Market Deeping, south Lincolnshire. Good to see the sprayer out and the sludge spreaders looked a very nice set up. Thanks Andrew, looking forward to Sundays video.

    I’m surprised that miscanthus isn’t used more for game strips. Great cover for the birds and a by product at the end of the year other than just topping the maize.

    Hi Andrew, a few episodes ago you were in the old grain store and saying how it gets very dusty in the loading process. I tried to find some photos of what we did but I can’t find them at all. Basically on a farm I was at they were in the same boat - old shed that was still in use but didn’t want to spend money on. For a “cheap fix” to combat the dust and the heat, what we did is make it so one in every two roof panels were retractable and then every other row to where you could reach. We made them so you could slide them up and out the way. This massively improved the conditions at the top of the dryer for air flow and heat! It was the same sort of roof you had. Don’t know if this is of any help!

      It would be difficult to do and then keep it watertight the rest of the time. We don’t use the building very often so it’ll just put up with it.

Edit: just watched Henry Ward on Nigel Farage saying he's not eligible for the flood payment, it's time the lot of those overpaid clowns at the various government departments were sacked and use the money to buy long reach excavators operated by locals

    I too would be interested in how long this crop lasts, I was working in a garden today which we landscaped and planted 20 plus years ago and the Miscanthus sinensis cultivar we planted then is still going strong so it would be interesting to know a little about this crop, the stems are much stronger so it's a very different cultivaror at least variety but if the domesticated one is anything to go by you may not have to replant for quite a while.

    good video Andrew, just a quick question on the seven Trent sludge, do you buy it from them or are they paying you as a disposal of there waste? and how is it value for money with fert prices or cow dung. as i looked to go farming myself but as a new entrant i looked at numbers in many areas live stock and arable. and i do wonder how you guys all keep going with the costs of anything you need to go at it and from you few week back sold winter wheat was £250 but drop from red tape bits to something like £130 and this year if it gets started yields probably be low as not in ground yet but production costs up. i have a 5 acre small holding i feed the family with this and i see the yields from this we can feed well and store some or we have to buy small amounts in so for the scale of you guys do feeding the nation it is scary. and i wonder why government seem bind to this with the costs of production. all the best to you

      Thanks for your detailed message Shane. We pay £65/hectare for the product, delivery and spreading.

    I would be amazed if the fuel for the power station crop is a genuinely cost effective way of generating electricity compared to solar and wind turbines. Still I realise people grow crops to take advantage of the price being offered.

    • @chrislee2221
      @chrislee2221 Před 4 měsíci

      Miscanthus grass I have ever seen grown to fuel power stations has been so thick you struggle to walk in it and is at least 8' tall. When it's that dense a crop it's very high yielding per ha . Also to grow it it's only necessary to establish the crop once it's then cut annually I believe for several years.

    Good vid andrew, good idea to have a breakfast meet uo now and again, we sre lucky the west side od country to still have livestock markets where people meet up, i think miscanthus thickens up as it gets older a bit like daffodils, think once plamted its fine for 20 years, grassmen did a video on wilson farms worth a watch, do you ever think about fetching the plough back out onto that heavy land on a year like this

      @@WardysWaffleAndrewWard I was wondering if it would help the ground to drain a bit I remember ploughing some fields once at a farm which were wet in places and the old boy who worked there said somebody had ploughed them across in the past and they had been wet everywhere since he said the water would drain down the furrows, mind different soil to yours Andrew and plenty of slope for water to run
