    I remember not having cable that year and this was a free game they played on the NHL app. Boy was I happy it was one of the few hockey games I was able to watch.

      Yea then covid happened they would have faced each other in round one of the playoffs oh well but that goalie fight was epic and the Kass and Tkachuk thing was fun

    man o man, this takes me back, i'm so lucky to have grown up when i did, this was my childhood, i got to see the start of the great one and follow his career along with a bunch of other legends, got to be old enough to be part of the seattle music scene during the grunge era, got to be part of the world while it was still analogue and see the birth of the internet and things going digital....very very lucky to be part of the gen i'm from for many many reasons.

    Anyone that says this is not the best rivalry in the NHL hasn’t watched these teams play each other. No other rivalry beats Edmonton Calgary

    Other than the Kassian/Tkachuk flare up the Battle of Alberta has been a Square Dance for more than a decade....In that time the Oilers were mostly awful and the Flames mostly mediocre.

      I think it he meant by both teams making it in the post season, even with the sham of what the qualifying round was Calgary vs Winnipeg and Edmonton vs Chicago but I agree you are correct they never faced each one another and where both eliminated in the qualifying round.

      Looking at the pacific division teams stats in 2021 it looks like Edmonton and Calgary would’ve been 2 and 3 again.
      The pandemic took away two consecutive battle of alberta playoff rounds

      @@ryguy6577 Definitely possible, I think Vegas finishes 1st, Edmonton 2nd, and 3rd atm feels like a toss up between Calgary, Vancouver, and Seattle.

      The worst part is that only one of the two made it out of the qualifying round later that summer. With the way the playoffs were set up at that time us fans would have had to wait until the second round before we got a Battle of Alberta in the playoffs. At least the two played against each other in a pre-tournament game.

      @@grahamdamberger7130 The play in rounds were honestly such a joke, they should have been set up like how the NBA did them. Instead, teams like Edmonton and Pittsburgh got punished for finishing high in the standings where on the other hand, teams like Chicago and Montreal got rewarded when they were both pretty much out of the playoff race at the time of the pause.

      @@Jo__Ko I heard that Chicago was selling guys at the trade deadline in order to bring in more draft picks and prospects, and yet they still find a way to beat us in 4 games, even when we had McDavid, Nurse, Leon, RNH, and Smith in the net.

    this is amazing. the battle of alberta and the battle of quebec mtrl vs the nords you need battles rivalries like this esp when they meet in the playoffs. the nhl and bettman is a joke today. so spread out. rule changes uuugghhh... but keep the passion alive.

There were like 4 months in between them "potentially being matchups" to certainly one of them not even making the playoffs (oilers), for them to not believe in that. Idk its not even poor phrasing. Just poor reliance on facts for the sake of a story
