I used to have a porta potty in my service vehicle. I used Thetford liquid and also their powder. I've got to say it broke everything down very efficiently. I even ran out of the proper toilet paper and used plain old Scott. It broke that stuff down too. I'm retired now and looking at buying a small trailer or possibly going all out for a Class A.

Best treatment I have found for black tank sensors reading full all the time is Zepp Acidic toilet cleaner available at Home Depot for around 10 dollars. Add one gallon to an empty black tank and use your black tank as usual until it's full. Mine took two weeks to fill. Drive your RV a few miles to slosh around this soapy mixture. Drain and flush as usual. Works in one treatment. No guess work. The acid in this toilet cleaner is the same organic acid that's in your stomach. It's very mild yet 100% effective because it is an organic acid that dissolves organic waste. No mess no fuss works every time. Be careful use a funnel to protect your plastic toilet and goggles gloves etc to protect yourself after all it is acid. It won't harm your tank or sensors.

I had an old rv person tell me to try this method and it worked
    1️⃣ cup of borax
1/2 cup of dawn dish soap
1 or 2 cap full of cheap fabric softener
Place this make sure in your tank once you have emptied. The tanks add water to the
tanks along with the mixture. And by the time you need to empty it it will be pretty clean.
You can also use the fabric softener to keep the smell down when you're parked
I used this mixture when. I boondock and had no issues it even broke down the toilet paper ..
I tried it on a smaller scale to see if it worked
And we were impressed thanks for making the video

Wow! I have been using Campa/Aqua-chem (blue fluid) for 26 years between two rv’s and a 47’ cruising sailboat. NEVER had an issue with macerators, tanks, solids, reading glasses dissolving, odors, etc. Using Aqua-Chem now here in my Super C in the heat of Texas…was aboard my old sailboat two weeks ago and it had terrible head (nautical-speak for bathroom) smell from misuse in its very recent past. Pumped the tank, added 3gallons of fresh water, 8 oz of Aqua-chem…odors gone, macerator works fine.
In very warm temperatures I double or triple the dosage…never a problem with tanks, valves, odors, etc.

I use Unique Digest It when the weather is under 80° and like it, but when the weather gets hotter, it doesn't work at all. You can add their Tank Odor Eliminator along with Digest It, but that gets expensive. Happy Camper works fine in hot weather even here in AZ with temps over 100° every day for the whole summer. (The claim of being organic really means nothing -- it's just a marketing ploy.) I am very careful using HC, because you can't tell what chemicals are in it. Even if they're biodegradable as claimed, they may not be all that safe before they biodegrade -- hence the warnings on the container. This summer I'm going to try the Dawn soap/Boraxo treatments to see how it works -- so far, so good after a week. Found a good video on this Bio-Geo method on TR Bowlin's CZcams post.

We have been full timers for 5 years and I like HC. What I do additionally is...once a month...after dumping I fill the tank and use a full bottle of dish washing liquid...not Dawn...an off brand version of Cascade...Cascade has a grit to it that I don't like. I use hot water to help the dish liquid and let it sit while we go out for the day, when we come back I dump and rinse, then add the HC with about 4-5 gallons of water.

I’ve always made sure the black tank flushing system is doing it job on the initial dump and rinse…. Fill, rinse, dump about 4x…. What I’ve come to do with my black tank is use a 5gal bucket of water and fill to about 3/5 full…. Drop the pod and stir and let sit for 10 minutes…. Take into the bathroom, give one quick stir before dumping into toilet….s as my trailer is not stored at home but at an RV site, the drive over gives it time to splash around and clean….. so far no bad issues

I had to mechanically break through the pyramid under the toilet with a drain snake, then add a couple gallons of water mixed with Unique Digest It. Since the RV is used I am sure the tank was not in the best condition. Between my 1st black tank dump and the 2nd. It stinks each time I used it. So after my black water empty today I am filling the black water with water and 4ounces of digest and letting it sit for 4 hours then dump it. And then do another rinse dump in the morning. Any suggestions with digest?

One thing we just started doing, since we’re now in the summer time, & even though Unique breaks down wastes really well, it doesn’t seem to help the summer odor and IT STINKS. So we’ve been using TST (for Odor) that we bought from Menards in conjunction with Unique. The label says not to mix the TST with another chemical but Unique isn’t a chemical but only enzymes. That’s your call but it seems to be helping us with the odor and not causing any other problems.

We have used Happy Camper for 4-5 years without issues. One thing that is important that has helped us is we do not set for 1-2 weeks then dump - we always travel to the dump station at next stop or we have an interstate free dump near our home. The motion of the travel (at least 50-60 miles) does more to break up toilet paper and solids than any product. We use the sewer solution which is a water powered "macerator". We also mostly do not camp at hook up sites so we are careful with water usage as far as how much we flush and we always use our black tank clean out system to have completely empty tank. The bacterial treatments can require more water to work properly and to not rinse out the black tank. What product works may depend on other individual use patterns more than actual product.

We've lived in our rv full time for the past 2 years. A year and 4 months in Central Texas (110+ summer temperatures!) and North Western Montana for about 8 months. We've used, at minimum, 10 different products for our black tank including my own mix of borax and dawn, with the occasional addition of oxy-powder. Trying to find the BEST possible solution for the LEAST cost. And after EVERYTHING we've used over months at a time in the extreme heat and cold(INCLUDING rv digest-it) by FAR the Best, by means of breaking down solids AND controlling odors is Happy Campers! Now I Do agree that the rv digest-it is better at breaking down solids, Especially if you use Lots of paper, it is NOT good at controlling odors. Adding borax to get more oxygen into the tank (which is ABSOLUTELY KEY) helps ALOT, but then your using 2 products, which costs more. I didn't want to admit it at first, because I really loved my mix / treatment, but I was spending almost 50% more than using just the 1 scoop of Happy Campers it takes for a treatment. Just our experience.

I tested the Thetford drop ins and they completely dissolve in less than 30 minutes. I don't doubt you found actually plastic in your macerator but I do doubt it came from the drop ins. Think about it.....Thetford markets these drop ins for all RV black tanks, boats etc. Many have macerators. They would be shooting themselves in the foot to market something that introduced plastic into the black water tank that would mess up the macerator. I did a test with some Thetford drop ins because I was new to using them and have a macerator. In a couple of cups of water, I placed a drop in packet. 10 minutes later the top of the packet was completely gone and the crystals inside began to disperse. Within 20 minutes, all that was left was the crystals. No "plastic".,

And I'd like to know what mess he made in my bathroom to where it was three rolls of paper towels he's stuffed down my toilet, while I was gone one day. I know how many rolls of paper towels I had. Seriously like the toilet paper pyramid from hell. We had words about it and he punched the hole in my absolutely pristine ceiling. Needless to say he got relocated to a local hospital. I used unique RV digest it. Followed the directions to the letter and it liquefied that mess. That was a couple years ago. I swear by it it's going to be one of the best products I've ever used for a black water tank.

I've used the unique brand and my experience is, it does NOT break down toilet paper any better than plain water.

I agree. I had a black tank blockage even though I was using Unique Digest-it. I added 8 ounces more and waited 24 hours and it didn't help at all. I had to buy a backflush kit to break up the blockage.

Unique may break down solids but it does NOTHING to eliminate Oder. I’ll NEVER Use it again.

Same here with the same experience. Unique didn’t do anything for odors. Happy camper was a miracle for me eliminated odor. Happy camper breaks down the waste as good as the Unique. I used unique because I had run out of Happy camper. Happy Camper is the big winner.

2 oz. first line on the solo cup, who knows this? College students and bartenders, well, not all college students.

Not an ad. Advertisers get paid. We didn’t. We never got a discount or werent even contacted by them. We Did this video because that’s what we use and it works for us. Maybe you didn’t use enough water. With every treatment, using a lot of water is key.

I have never utilized Pods of anything. Nor will I ever use them.
The black tank uses COLD water, which inhibits the breakdown of a lot of septic waste.
Even laundry Pods are found in washers and melted to the sides of dryers. And that plastic is harmful to the environment. Why anyone would use that crap, is beyond me.

Nothing like a nearly 6 minute static shot, complete with jump cuts, and stale banter. No close ups of the products, no demonstration of each; in other words, a totally useless video.
