    This is an update to the video The Bio-Geo Method for maintaining your RV's holding tanks. In this video, I update the original with the knowledge I have gained after almost two years of experimenting to discover the easiest and simple way to maintain your holding tanks.
    In this video, I show you how to maintain your tanks in 3 easy, environmentally safe steps. I also show you how to fix your non-working tank level monitors. Also, I am explaining the science and mechanics of the method and how it works!

    Just tried this method and it is marvelous! We live full time in our camper and I have been mortified how stinky our 2-year old camper has gotten. This worked amazingly the very first time and just keeps getting better. One side benefit is that my tank release handles pull much easier now also; they were getting hard to pull and hard to close. I can highly recommend this method and thank you so much for sharing it.

      @@trbowlin Mr bowlin, I'm going to try your method, I'm only been full-time rving for 5 years. And I must say that I have had problems with the smells, so for one thing I'm going to start adding like you say two or three gallons of water to each one of my tanks along with the borax and I will start using a little bit of dawn soap because of the buildup of stuff in the tanks like grease and oils and things like that, for two years I haven't used any fat oil or Grease cholesterol salt sugar that sort of stuff, all my soups and everything I cook or fat oil and grease salt sugar free nothing extra added to my foods just spices, I'm down 36 lb in 5 months last year I lost 30 lb this year I've lost 36. So I'm staying away from the oils and the greases I don't fry nothing no more so I'm sure that my system is this needs a good cleaning and I will keep up with the borax and every two or three months I'll put a half a cup of Don's opener just a freshen it up and as an occasional maintenance thing to see a little bit once in awhile maybe three times a year but we'll do the Barack so after each flesh adding two or three gallons probably more like 3 gallons I could do that easily enough and that'll be good and maybe I should dump it every 2 weeks rather than go three or four weeks, and I have always I must say I have always flush my tanks three to five times if the facility will let me do it, and the facility that I've been going to for a while locally here in the town where I've been most at for The last 5 years, I have plenty of water and plenty of pressure so I can fill up my toilet in no time probably 3 to 5 minutes and it's completely full then I stick my toilet cleaning brush in the top of the toilet and leave the little flap door open some to let the air flow when I pull the valve outside has that good draw going on cuz the air coming in through the top so it drops down quicker does that make sense?. I'm going to buy borax and a couple of days and start my system rolling better, and yes I should add water to my toilet more and probably flush it more often that's probably the issue like you said with the oxygen, because if I'm saving my water as much as possible using as little as possible only enough to flush the toilet and that's not even a full bowl, that might be some of the problem I'm getting a lot of smell because it's just not a lot not enough oxygen and water in the in the hole. Okay sorry for the long message we'll give her a try and I'm sure it's going to work fine. And now that we're dealing with a hundred degree and 108° and 110 out here in the desert, oh, I want to say this even though it's been really hot and overly hot the normal out here in the desert cuz of this bad heat Wave we're having, my tanks really haven't had a really bad smell thing going on, just a small bit, just enough to notice something was going on. And I think that's a little strange, now maybe it's because I'm using a little more water, I'm not sure, but you got to remember, I'm doing nothing but plant-based nutrition, so when I take a dump in my toilet, there's no oil fat or grease going down into the toilet holding tank through the waste product, and nothing is getting greasy or oily or any other way in my cooking or in my cleaning of my dishes, so I think that's seriously helping, at least part of last year and and most of this year now since I've been really heavy on staying on top of the plant-based nutrition and not doing any cheating and eating things that I shouldn't eat to clog up my arteries. Okay I probably talk too much now have a good afternoon and we'll give you an update but a shorter one and let you know what I'm been doing and how's it working okay talk to you later my friend you have a good afternoon

      @@trbowlin Mr bowlin, if this borax works like I think it's going to along with the little bit of extra water, I'm going to be a happy camper. And I'm glad to try something new to add to what I think I've been doing okay by flushing my tank 3 to 5 times when I do flush it and I always fill it up all the way to the top even with it really dirty tank loaded manure, cuz I want that first flush to be a really heavy pull and draw saw crack the lid with the with the toilet brush handle go outside and pull that valve and at that point the tank is fully full all the way to the top and then after that I'm feeling it all the way up to the top again three to five times after that flushing out watching like you say the color of the exiting water coming out the end of the hose keeping an eye on that, yeah this is going to be fun and I'll share this with my other rving friends that are nearby that live in their RVs, okay thank you sir, one other thing if you could do a video on how to make sure your tank is mounted properly so it doesn't sag and fall down, there seems to be a little bit of a problem with my gray tank coming down on one end some like the hangers not holding it properly for some reason, I'm going to look at that again and maybe have a guy look at that to see if it can be properly installed right, because my pipe from the gray tank to the valve cracked on me and when I was using some flex seal on that I thought I'm going to look at the tank itself to see what I might be able to find so I when I was underneath spraying my pipe for that little crack with flex seal I scooted over underneath the gray tank and gave it a looking at and I could see it plainly was falling down in the one corner where the pipe hooks to the tank so I thought well that's the reason why my pipe crack cuz the tank came down for some reason somehow it wasn't mounted right or something anyway I need to get that fixed or fix it myself. Have a good afternoon sorry for the extra talk

This spring, we treated the tanks as you recommended, let it sit in the tanks for a month and today was judgement day. We went to our local dump station and we are very pleased! Both tanks came out squeaky clean and the odor is gone! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your knowledge! I did too in my older coach. It will take a little time but it does work well. You might try parking it with the tanks full of water and the Borax and Dawn (or orange cleaner, simple green works too) for a while. if it gets to smelling add some borax. You got to let it soak a while to soften the adobe but eventually it will get those tanks clean as a whistle. Thanks for watching Monte!

Your video came across my You Tube feed and I watched it last night. I didn’t have any Borax but I did have Oxyclean, which I think is like Borax. Anyway, last night I did exactly what you said using the oxyclean. This morning I hooked up the water to the black tank and emptied the black tank. Thank you so much! I not only have the odor, I have a clog. I am living in a FEMA camper after my apartment floated off its foundation during hurricane Ida. It filled up with mud, & was unsalvageable. As a lone woman with no prior RV experience & not handy or mechanical, your channel is a lifeline for me! There's a temporary (semi, been living here several months) black flexible plumbing hose that both black & gray water have to exit through, connected to the sewer or septic tank. My camper is way too close to it, and the hose is too long & kinks up. They said there's only 1 size. I have no clue, but now have what I guess is a pyramid clog, capstone & all! Hoping it isn't the adobe brick! I'd already squirted Dawn in there. About a month ago I thought it would be good preventive maintenance to dump a box of Rid X down there. Thinking was my 1st mistake! I just dumped the Borax in there, so now I feel a little more hopeful about the poo pyramid... If it doesn't get better I'll have to call FEMA & I'd rather not, so embarrassing, ugh! But I will know better how to prevent another clog! Thank you a million times, your explanation was perfection! Just got my used 2000 C class RV two weeks ago. This is the first one I have owned with a bathroom. This is my dread but know I have to do it once I get on the road. I have a feeling I am going to have that "hard" problem you spoke of. The man who had it knew nothing about RV's. He bought it less then a year ago. Took his family on a final family 6 week trip before, the last kid went off to college. So now not looking forward to those warm temps you are speaking of. Nice to know there is a cure for stink. I figured while it's in for it's checkup on systems I will have the camper place do the first tank clean and flush out to give me a start. I have also considered changing it over to a composting toilet . So will give this a go first.

    • @chief7839
      @chief7839 Před 2 lety

      I had a composting toilet in my travel trailer before I traded it in on my new Class C. The only thing keeping me from going that route again is the price. Fixed income blues. But I'm here to tell you, composting toilet is fantastic. If you go that way I would suggest "Natures Head" and if your space permits, they have an arm that attaches to the agitator that just makes its operation a breeze. One of the side benefits of it is you add a discharge valve onto where your dump end cap goes and keep that valve closed. Then you keep your black and gray tank valves opened. So since you no longer have black water, you double your gray water capacity. If I can help you with real world experience, I'd be happy to. Mike

    TR, a very thorough explanation. I guess I take for granted that most people have a basic knowledge / understanding of such things, but based on the comments to your video it's obvious that "people don't know Shit"!
    I too, am a full-timer (Monaco Dynasty) with the luxury of remaining stationary for long periods of time. When stationary, I use a timer that causes my flushing system to initiate every few days to flush the tanks with plenty of water. It took a leap of faith to quit letting the tank partially fill only to drain it every week. However, after starting with a clean & functional tank system, I've discovered throughout the last several years that my system remains crystal clear, sparkling clear and clean enough to eat out of (don't hold me to the last one). As I used to say in the groundwater remediation business: "Dilution is the solution!"
    I've enhanced my system to control the flush valves so I can continue to use it while mobile. I've installed redundant secondary tank level sensors & controls to make the system fail-safe - I would hate to see the chocolate fountain shooting out the vent!)
    Thanks Again,
    Scott

      Interesting solution. I know some mobility challenged RV'ers that could use a system like that!

    • @sknopster
      @sknopster Před 4 lety

      @@trbowlin I started thinking about it, because I noticed that the sensors used in my tanks are the same type of pressure transducer that I had designed into secondary containment systems used in my industry. These pressure transducers are mounted on the side wall near the bottom of each tank, which is the absolute worst place to mount them! They only need to experience a pressure differential as the liquid level increases... so I removed them from the bottom bung and created an opening on the top of each tank for a 5" PVC drop pipe that hangs about 2" off the bottom (to prevent bridging by solids/paper in black tank). The pipe is sealed at the top end, and the pressure transducer is installed such that it experiences any pressure change inside the pipe. When the liquid level rises above the open end of the drop pipe, a correlating pressure change occurs inside the pipe which the transducer registers as a change in current (4-20mA). By installing the sensor in this fashion, the liquid never comes in contact with the sensor... It is only sensing a change in air pressure.
      The monitoring system built into my coach allows for recalibration. The only negative is that the sensor does not register the first 2½" - 3" of liquid... or ⅛ tank according to my calibration. For the gray tank, I set the drop pipe just ½" of the bottom of the tank as there is little concern for bridging and plugging of the entire pipe.
      Frankly, the RV mfgs should use a similar configuration. Especially, the high end coaches that already use a pressure transducer for the sensor. I'm guessing they want to avoid the added expense of having to modify an off-the-shelf tank. It's worth it to me, and the 5 RV owners for whom I've performed this modification.
