  • Eight insightful lectures from philosopher, theologian, and intellectual heavyweight Truman G. Madsen. These lectures shed gospel light on age-old questions such as:
What makes us who we are?
What is man's relationship with God?
What is the nature of the Universe?
    Am I free to choose?
What is God's role in man's suffering?
This is lecture #3: Theomorphic Man & The Nature of God
    Why did God create Man?
Why did John say, "now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him" (1 John 3:2)
Why did Paul say we would be joint heirs with Christ? (Romans 8:17)
Why did Jesus command us to be perfect? (Matthew 5:48)
What did Jesus mean when he said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do." (John 14: 12)
Is it possible that Christendom, like the learned Jews before them, are not ready for the truth? Consider this quote by the Prophet of the restoration:
"It always has been when a man was sent of God with the priesthood and he began to preach the fullness of the gospel, that he was thrust out by his friends, who are already to butcher him if he teach things which they imagine to be wrong; and Jesus was crucified upon this principle."
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Produced in 1998 (eleven years before his death), these lectures were his “summa philosophica,” a mixture of his “last lecture” and a summation of his understanding of Christian philosophy.

    Timeline:
@0:20 A debate between Truman & the Jesuit Priests - Why did God create mankind?
@3:00 What type of God is most deserving of our love?
@5:50 As the Son of God is, man may become.
@9:00 What does it mean to inherit a throne? At what point in development do children understand this process?
@10:45 John explains this process in 1 John 3:2. Christendom considers John’s teaching a heresy.
@12:30 Instances of I AM vs YOU ARE in the Bible. Light, Salt, Living Bread, etc.
@16:20 Do we comprehend Christ’s commandment in Matthew 5:48? Be Ye Perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect. Is this also a heretical statement akin to John’s?
    @17:50 Logical positivism
@21:00 Thomas Aquinas changes perceive to conceive since we cannot rely strictly on sensory experience for spiritual matters
@22:00 C.S. Lewis using analogy of blind people who use the same descriptive words as those with sight, despite the inability to see. The next generation of blind people would not possess the ability to remember being able to see. This is the current state of Christendom. Jesus experienced this first hand...with those who actually saw Him themselves.
    @25:00 Existentialism (The phenomenological method)
@28:44 Genesis speaks of Adam as a generic name for both Adam & Eve. This is how it’s written in the Hebrew.
@30:00 Bible says Moses spoke to God face to face. Book of Mormon counts 12 prophets that saw God.
@32:00 Do we take Anthropomorphism too far? Consider Christ’s own words.
@35:00 Transformation requires the power of Christ. Without it we can do, “nothing.”
@36:30 Hugh B. Brown, “God is the Gardener” We must be fruitful
@40:10 Did Adam and Eve sin in fulfilling their mission, foreordained before the world? The fall was the beginning of our opportunity

I don't think so Ken. I burned them to MiniDisc from cassettes in the late 90s. I came across the MDs in an old dusty box this year and decided to post them now that Dr. Madsen has passed. Gems all of them.

I used to believe because of my current circumstances which were not favorable ie. poor health, living pay check to pay check, unfulfilled dreams etc. that my godlike abilities would be developed after I died and that a life of greater fulfillment and impact and abundance would be part of the reward of my faithfulness.
I’ll preface what I say next with “boy was I wrong.”
All the abilities (excepting immortality) we will ever have we have now and it is only a matter of finding the principles, and disciplining oneself and applying them in ones life through the thoughts, and feelings we choose and directing them in a certain way, and towards a certain end.
We may think we know of all we need to know or all we can know at this time with the knowledge we currently have and yet our lives are far below the standards of a heavenly, abundant and fulfilling life.as well as that which we desire. I found that in my combing through the scriptures and books I was missing something that was there the whole time, it just want clearly spelled out. The “pearl of great price, that when once discovered a person would give all they have for it.”
Why would they give all they have for it? Because all they could ever want is contained within it.
That being the case than there is something we have not learned and applied that can be learned and applied here and now followed by the results we desire.
I can say with all confidence and experience that all things are truly possible. I’ve surpassed my dream life many times over. I live a fairytale dream life through learning my true godlike nature and in turn creating exactly the life I desire. I love teaching others these same principles I have discovered through other great teachers, the Holy Ghost and practical application and experimentation and watch as they govern themselves based on what they discover. It is the most fulfilling thing I have ever done and I do it freely. Truly the word of God is bought without money.
I have much more to learn and I am like a little child in this regard and like Abraham of old my greatest desire is to gain not just knowledge but greater and greater knowledge so I can be a greater and greater follower of righteousness and thus be able to go on and create greater and greater creations. .
I love listening to Truman G. Madsen. Thank you for taking the time to post these.
When I was working as a mechanic in Orem Utah at a Honda dealership he came into our facility to have his car repaired. I was listening to some cassette tapes of him and when I heard him talk I immediately said “are you Truman G. Madsen?” To which he replied, “yes I am” and stuck out his hand to shake mine.
I told him he is changing my life.
I love what he says in the next audio “You cannot be forced to grow, respond, to seek redemption, to bring Christ into your life, and finally, reach levels of perfection. If you choose to and cooperate you can. Otherwise not.
By way of exhorting, how to become like Christ, the practice application. I haven’t heard it being taught in these audios thus far. I’m half way through #4, and I doubt in listening to the rest that I will either. Don’t get me wrong, I love all of this immensely. There is much I am being reminded of and things I am learning that are compounding and adding to what I have learned. It is priceless.
That being said, there is a difference between feeling peace and assurance and confidence and actually exercising your creative faculties. One is incomplete without the other.
Creation is your God given birthright and you can begin at once to create and grow in it right here and now. You just need the knowledge of application. Everything you need is already inside of you and is you.
