I mean no disrespect to our Prime Minister, I only want to criticize this project wherein the resource could've been applied to a better situation.
The bullet train project is finally on. The project is estimated to cost Rs 1.1 lakh crore, and will cover a distance of over 500 km from Mumbai to Ahmedabad in about two hours. The train is expected to be completed in 2022 to commemorate the 75th year of our independence.
There's a myth going around that the bullet train will be almost 'free', since Japan is lending a loan of 88,000 crore which is totally false and explained in detail in the video.
The rupee is bound to weaken by over 60% in two decades, so will India be able to repay the loan owed to Japan after 50 years?

CaptainJamV bro the loan they have given is need to be paid in 50 years which makes it free because once you have a bullet train or whatever services, you earn from that services as well. when we had not trains, the required money for running trains all over country was more than the amount which is spending on bullet train so it's a strategy to put new innovation to the country then earn from it when it get usual in your life. You are just seeing how much they are putting money on this but you are not seeing how much they will earn from it when it will be all over. Someone has to start putting new innovation to a country otherwise they won't be able to know that technology and pay for it. Like Jio, it costed Ambani more than this which people thought it's a huge investment which are going for free but now jio is earning more than any other telecoms. It's a business strategy bro. Think of it this way. Is it good to invest in airlines and express trains when more people use passenger trains and buses? And is it good to invest in buses and passenger trains when many villagers still use bullock carts? Should not the government be investing in the fastest bullock carts? That would be absurd.
Government should not just plan for 2016, but also for 2030. The investments in highways and metro trains 15 years ago are now paying off as we zip through the highways and trains. By 2030, we would have 4 times bigger economy and 20 crore more people in the middle class. How are we going to move them?The middle class of 2030 would choke without fast transportation. Airports would be clogged, roads would be beyond their capacity and express trains cannot move people fast enough. On the other hand, bullet trains can transport people fast enough for them to leave their cars and planes behind.
By moving the entrepreneurs and merchants fast enough, we can produce a lot more value to the economy. Would you rather have a productive entrepreneur stuck in a slow moving train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad or be producing something useful on the ground? Again when the merchant leaves the polluting cars and airplanes for an electricity driven bullet train, we can have cleaner skies [assuming in parallel we can move out of coal as a producer of electricity]. The bullet trains can reduce the acute scarcity in availability of train tickets as well as reduce accidents [the alternate is the much riskier car transportation].
Two centuries ago people would not have comprehended the need for a train. Horses and oxen did their job well. Now, it is hard to imagine India without its railways. We have to now get into the next era of innovation. High speed trains are the future as we can see in Europe and east Asia. They are far more cleaner and convenient than air travel and much more convenient than regular train travel. It would push both business and tourism.
The same answer also applies to why India invests in Mars missions & lunar landings when some basics like water and electricity needs to be fixed. Of course, we have to invest in the basics too, but this idea of sequentially doing things doesn't always work. We have to build the basics as well as the advanced sciences in parallel.
Just as a student eats for today as well as studies for the exams to come in a few months, we have to invest our efforts in both present as well as the future. Just as a driver looks both at the traffic ahead as well as mentally plans his route, we have to think both long and short.
We cannot let our present cloud our future.

3000-5000 rs is nothing for Indians,I have seen people paying 2000 commission to ticket agents for a 1200 RS ticket and many of the AC1 TIER TRAINS HAVE TICKETS NEAR ABOUT 4000 and still get sold out months before the journey.I think railways will easily recover the money within a span of 6-7 years.
Maybe bullet train will be a success project in future. I hope it will secure ours and next generations to greatest. But we need to look upon present too that where money should be utilized the most. Poverty should be assassinated so that everyone can fulfill his stomach and have home to live. Well construction and re-construction of public properties are what our country needed the most right now to cut down the problems facing by public.

Its better to privatize railways, no government can manage it because of the corruption in railway management and the we as a citizen behave. Private companies will properly run it because of their interest. As far as bullet train is concerned, same things were said about metro.

There r few things that definitely Needs to be done in railway. One of them is dedicated freight and passenger corridor that will automatically double the speed of Indian railways. But if you gonna put new tracks on new land then why not achieve some extra speed with that so high speed rail would be a good option. Now the big question of affordablity. Countries Japan and China have lot of liquid cash which if don't take it . They will give it to other countries. So why not take it and build over infrastructure. Like China has put railway projects in Africa. They have way better train then India. If just put new train in Sudan on CZcams.So why not use their money to build over railways

And before any good reform or investment there of course will be a slowdown. Like you are opening a new restaurant for sometime you will run in loss till you regain the investment or repay the loan.
