  • The birth of the dodge viper was conceived in 1988 when Bob Lutz (head of Chrysler Corporation's Global Product Development, at the time) and Carroll Shelby (Famed car designer & Race car icon) were talking about designing a car that matched the 1960's muscle car and the 1990's technology. Carroll Shelby and Bob Lutz used the Cobra as a source of inspiration with the two seat design, powerful engine, minimalist straightforward design, muscular and aggressive styling, and high performance.
    In 1989 the Dodge Viper appeared as a concept at the North American International Auto show in Detroit. The public reaction to this concept car had car enthusiast such as the president of the German Ferrari Club asking to place his order for one. Lee Iacocca was there for the launch of the Dodge Viper in April 1992 and was quoted as saying "If this doesn't excite you check your pulse cause you're not well today". The Dodge Viper was not just a hit in America it made the cover of Six European Magazines during its concept tours with the Auto Show circuit.

      It's really hard to design a car---or ANYTHING for that matter, that looks futuristic, but at the same time, nostalgic. They did the design perfectly for this car. Old timers like it, and my teenager loves it. They didn't have a budget to go all the way----but what they had, they used to build a legend.

      Writers Life with Author Truman Beaver They have, maybe not as wild-looking as the Viper but just as fast, if not faster. The Hellcats, GT500s and probably a handful of other cars give you at least equal performance if not more, and often without sacrifice other than fuel economy. There has been no better time for high performance cars in the history of cars than today if you have the money for it. I’d even say horsepower is cheaper today than in the early 90s when the Viper was introduced, especially when adjusted for inflation. I do agree though, the Viper is special and deserves to be.

      @jmin8400 Před 3 lety

      Nah. This is the 90s already and he was over 2 decades older than him. There are definitely similarities, because both called things as they saw them in terms of unfair practices. However Trump made the very mistakes that Iacocca was afraid of making, if he had become a politician.
      Very very similar, but Iacocca had a better temperament and was more clever with maintaining a good image. As good as he was at talking allowed like the common man, he was very gifted in throwing in intelligent concepts and balanced perspectives. Trump not so much.
      I blame Fred, as if not for his bad influence, Trump would have had a lot more of Iacocca's great qualities with none of the partisan drama & biases. Lido knew you cannot run a country like a corporation, while Trump missed that key memo.
      Lido also had a limit to his harsh words, unlike Trump and that saved him from scorching scrutiny. Donald is no Lee Iacocca, but in his past years there were similarities. If not for his ego choosing a sellout to succeed him instead of product genius, his legacy at Chrysler would've remained untarnished.
