This is too much if SEBI is going to implement..totally draconian and partial..this is not to save retailers..but to throw them out of the market entirely..highly devious.But the effects will go both ways for sure.

I bet SEBI will reverse these after sometime. Because it's the small fishes which the big fishes like institutes feed on.Once small fishes gone these big will starve and will beg SEBI to bring back the small fishes.!

Lot size should come down so that people will buy in CASH and hedge through F&O. Include more number of stovks in F&O category so people who are taking heavy positions in CASH can hedge their portfolio

Sir simple solution is stoploss for intraday and hedge position compulsory for carryforward trade in fno segment and it will protct retail traders if that is the intent of sebi.Atleast retailers be allowed to trade in index with mandatory 2 percent stoploss.

I suspect many small F&O day traders may shift to cash market for day trading. While this will reduce volatility in the F&O market, since transaction cost in cash market will be higher, the profit expectation will go up, supports and resistances will become more strong and there will be fewer breakouts and breakdowns as compared to now. The "incremental" increase in day trading in cash market will be less than the "incremental" decrease in day trading in F&O market. Overall, there will be a sobering effect on the markets. People with more money power, like FII and DII, will rule the roost.

I somehow believe that these changes are being done by SEBI more to suit the big and institutional players rather than the retail traders. I doubt the story floated by SEBI saying that retailers are losing money and the changes are being done to protect retailers interests

Delivery based traders will increase and can play the law of averages with their capital. Stcg will apply w.r.t taxation flat rates rather than business/speculative income which appears to be the prime motive of sebi .

It will be more problem for small traders as they will not be able to sell options, they have to do only buy options with limited money they have. Also less revenues for exchanges and brokerages.

Please don't make any changes. If you want to safeguard the small size retail traders then increase the leverage in equity /cash market which was only 5 times now, automatically retail traders alter from option to cash market.

sebi if really interested to curb volumes, it can easily do it by keeping 1 expiry of indexes , the whole volume is because of expiries daily, even by keeping expiry just on thurday for all indexes the volume will come down significantly, no need to increase the lot size
How can everyone be in profit in markets..somebody has to gonna losse for somebody to earn..entire reasoning of sebi is foolish..capital markets should be free..this is not good for overall market health..rbi and sebi wants retails money in the banks so that they can give huge loans..past few years bank amounts seeing decline in savings account that is why all this fiasco

An excellent video, as always on one of the most important topics, many thanks ! I expected you to cover EFFECTS ON OPTIONS VOLATILITY (Options IV Premia) on large Lot Sizes !! Once; trading frequency, trading volume to go crashing down, while horizontal and vertical spreads increasing....predicting IV would be interesting to know !!

Thanks for the video, got to know of incidence on vertical and horizontal spreads , overall lower liquidity it seems. Learning screen reading art is more helpful but what about swing traders the position sizing is going to be affected by margin requirement and lot size. The development has no silver lining. Will the premium increase for monthly options overall? Under the garb of deterring retail traders they have only managed to further hurt them as institutions and banks have liquidity backdoor that does not exist for retailers.

if f & o needs more capital -knowledge is always precious - it is simple and easy to use strangles based on expiry and major movements in index and stocks than taking naked call -( correct me if im wrong) but scalpers will be effected,then if not wishing to trade in indian market - trade in different markets

This is good. There is too much overcrowding in the f&o market and because of this money made by individuals is getting lower and lower of at all.Anyways large institutions are already crowding rhe spce and mking it impossible for retailers to make consistent money

Sebi should impose rules on FnO Like Trading accounts which are 5yrs+ old only should be allowed for FnO. so all the newbies influenced by Reels trader on social media will be out.

Sir, i am totally new in the market a 24 year old individual student, with cap. Of 1L i want to learn trading basic concepts and not to earn hard and fast money, can you guide me with the roadmap to learn sufficient that i can be profitable in long term. Currently trading in BNF, Nifty with short strangle OTM prices based on the OpenInterest my daily targets are like 1% of the total capital, if somehow i can learn statical trading so that i can do directional trading on indicies
but i feel like i am lagging there's a lot i am missing that i must learn, indicator based trading/ courses is not for long term i feel like
Overall i May be wrong, by now, starting from april 2024, i made around 17K in last month, but lost in it a single day in midcap nifty and now i am back at breakeven

Even its 10rs premium?
No Arun, no margin is payable by the option buyers. If the lot size is increased, your options premium payable will go up though.

Eg if nifty at 24000 they will not allow to trade plus or minus 500 points;; say about 23500 to 24500?

Arun the number of strikes will reduce. The SEBI communication was fairly clear on this. That will be tough for out of the money traders. Lets keep our fingers crossed.
Horizontal and vertical Spread increase will be plugged through liquidity injected through market makers, don't see this as impact.

Hi. In trading stock options, what happens to the trade if the options expires between the range on expiry? Suppose I create a strangle between Rs.400 and 500 and the stock expires at 440 at the end of the month, then I need to buy to close my trade. I may be closing on the day before market closes. But unlike index, since I m doing in real stock,I need to buy back what I sold, how my profitability will be calculated? Since premium becomes zero, I am in profit there like index, but I will be squaring of my position at 440( buying at 440 for both legs) . Whether the logic is same as index?
Thanks for your feedback Venutbe 5791. Since options are also physically settled in the present form, I prefer to square the trade a day before the expiry. The SEBI is considering raising margins closer to expiry so there will be issues with holding on.

How does this new F&Q regime impact an option buyer with a capital of 15 lakhs.
1.Lot size increase which is fine.
2.Lesser expiries a month which is ok because there is better delta ,gamma and lesser theta on non expiry days.s
3.Lesser eventful days as there will be lesser expiries
We evolve as better traders as we get better understanding of rules .
But then what happens to BSE Options & Futures .BSE wanted to compete with NSE and they came up with Sensex and Bankex F&O.
Let us wait and see.
The real problem is not going to arise from bigger lot size, which ofcourse will increase risk of 1 lot traders. The actual problem is going to come from abolishing strike prices. Now we have 24450 CE, 24400 CE and 24350 CE, but as per new suggestion, we will have only 24450 CE and 24350 CE, this will require bigger market moves to get into break even if a trade as gone against you, increasing the probability of losses of option buyers even higher.
Now comming to increase in lot size, this will directly impact option sellers with 5 lakh capital, as now he will need 20 lakhs to sell same contract, so now he will be pushed towards option buying.
With more buyers and institutional sellers, a percent Setup is designed to loot retail money as Indian market will be sideways in coming years due to coalition govt in center.

Sir, i think it will only beneficial for promoters, family trust,dii and fii.for wealth creation.they will form syndicate and manipulate the market.and suck the retailer's money. In this year many promoters has sold their stock and invested it on wealth creation not in expanding their company which could have created more job and development.they created shell company and family trust overseas.

Our regulators are greedy of generating revenues for the government. Smaller quantities enable more no of transactions hence more charges..I believe these recommendations are just rumours as the government revenue will come down with these changes.

Sir, what will be the impact of option selling in index like banknifty or Nifty ? With 1.5 lakhs capital , i can take 1 lot of straddle sell(both call sell and put sell) in BankNifty....should i need 6 lakhs to take 1 lot of straddle sell now ? can you clarify ?
Thanks for your comment. If the lot sizes are raised then your capital requirement will go up in the exact proportion of the lot size increase. Await the verdict since right now no regulation has been changed yet.

If that is qualitative measure then it’s welcome move…taxing on f&o is not effective. One side you are coming with daily expiry & other side you are worried about retailers & increase in market volume due to speculation is not at all justified….

How much time do sebi need to implent such type of rules
Thanks for your feedback Aniket. The last time lot sizes were changed upwards drastically was in July 2015 when lot sizes rose from ₹ 2 lacs to ₹ 5 lacs. That time 3 months notice period was given so that near, mid and far month series expired before new lot sizes were brought in.

Means if you are a beginner trading with one lot, now you must buy atleast 4-5 lots

Thanks for your feedback Srinivasan. It means the value of the traded securities in 1 f&o lot will total ₹ 5 lacs. For example if the price of the stock is ₹ 500 then lot size will be ₹ 1,000 shares. That is the current lot size. SEBI committee proposal is to raise it to ₹ 20-30 lacs. Final verdict is awaited.

You need to buy a textbook which is easily available online on almost all e-commerce websites for ₹ 250. Go for it.

Sanjay my guess is they will move in quickly. The foreign high frequency traders (HFT) desks who want to come to India will need all the inverse ETFs, credit default swaps and long-short funds in place before they bring in money. The lot sizes will be tweaked before that happens.
Whether its done in the budget or not, I have no clue.
