The reason why Alex was so emotional is because he used to be a professional tennis player and actually played along with Rafa when he was just starting as a pro as a 16 year old. Alex also used to play with Carlos Moya, which has been Rafa's coach for the past several years. They all know each other very well.

This match reminded me the movie where Rocky Balboa fought against Ivan Drago. No chance to win whatsoever and somehow little by little point after point he was able to defeat the Russian just by never giving up and having faith in his possibilities to win. Rafa Nadal is the real Rocky Balboa. A man whose passion moves mountains. A truly gladiator. He’s the GOAT no matter what happens in the future. One day we’ll say to the future generations: I saw that final and it was absolutely amazing. Thank you Rafa and kudos on your 21st grand slam.

I have been a tennis player for 35 years. When I was 15 years old I had two knee operations and the surgeon told me that I couldn't continue playing tennis. I ignored him and put all my effort into improving myself. Rafa has had a serious physical problem with his feet since he was 17 (look for information), which would normally have been to stop practicing her sport. It is an exceptional case of physical and metal overcoming. His motivation is infinite like the stars. His spirit on and off the slopes is exceptional (I remember the serious flooding of his Manacor on the island of Mallorca where he helped as a neighbor to remove the water and mud from the houses). As a secondary school teacher (of ethics) he is an example for all young people, and not so young. My tears of joy (not as a Spaniard and Catalan, but as an athlete that I am) are of enormous gratitude for your effort and superhuman example, especially in these difficult times of the Covid pandemic. Rafael, you are the greatest.

It's definitely not easy. The whole crowd is for the opponent, the opponent is able to write absolute history if he wins and on top of it he's the one guy that never stops pushing on no matter how shitty the game is going, and very probably one of your idols. So yeah, feeling bad for Daniil but he's got all the class to win many GS in the future even though he might lose to the oldies. But he might also win, as he did last year. So I hope he doesn't lose faith in himself and keeps on going strong to at least reach the ankles of those three, because it's unlikely that anyone will ever catch up to their greatness.
