Rusted Antique Pasta Cylinder - Restoration
    Hello guys how are doing?
In this video you will see how to restore a antique Pasta Cylinder. I don't know how many years this machine have, but at least 50 years.
This machine is heavy almost 8Kg. I did not make this restoration like a super glossy one.
To restore i started disassemble taking off the handle and the Nut that holds the two gears with a help of my arms and a wrench, the other parts i just used my hands to disassemble.
The rust was in all over the surface of the pieces so i had to make electrolysis to remove the deep and stucked rusted parts.
After electrolysis done I wire brushed all parts and did a file work to remove all the casting marks to make the surface of the foot base more smooth.
To paint i masked all parts and used 2 coats of primer, wet sand the primer after 1 day and paint with the silver color.
Now i started to restore the cylinders with a wire brush, after that i put the cylinder on my wood lathe to sand the surface, i sanded with a P80 to P600 to make the surface more soft.
I debend and clean the thread of the steel that holds every pieces together.
I restored the handle pin with a bench drill, A wire brush, sanded and use a steel wool to make it more shine.
I polished the screws that make the cylinders closer to each other.
To make the wood handle i used a piece of wood from a antique bookcase, with a help of my chisel i make the handle on the wood lathe and after it's done i sand with a P600 and cut with a handsaw and make the hole.
I hydrated the wood handle with a Olive oil and leave it with the oil for one day.
    I also restored the nuts.
Now every part is ready to assemble.
    And perfect restoration.

Yep! It really looks like an old wringer for clothes but it is a Antique Pasta Cylinder, here in Brazil this tool was very useful to make bread in the past.

Thanks Bro! There is a lot of tool that I want to buy, I'm kinda addcted for them hehe'😄

@@WorkshopDC I’m guilty of that too haha.
I bet the pasta that you did for the test would have tasted normal, but if you had made some pasta with the old rusty wheels prior to the restoration I reckon you wouldn’t even need to add any seasoning 😆

Interesting work on this pasta maker. The fact that it had to be set on the edge of the counter so the pasta would fall down to a bowl below seems odd. Did this type of device come with a shredder attachment? Thanks for sharing this video with us and remember Texas is watching.

An old wringer mangle for a wood wash tub - looks a bit too wide for pastry thinning, but looks like it would bolt onto the side of an old wooden washer to wring out the water from the laundry?

Этот цилиндр широко использовался в Италии для изготовления хлеба и макаронных изделий. Он действительно очень похож на цилиндр для одежды, но это не так.
