Antique Rusted Farm Lamp - Restoration
You can turn on the Subtitles on CZcams!
Hi guys, how are you doing?
In this video i show you how to restore a Antique rusted farm lamp.
This Lamp was produced by Sonambulo, unfortunately i didn't find any information about the antique.
I think this lamp have a least 60 years old, with a red glass that makes it be a rare piece.
So to restore the lamp i begin disassemble all parts, this step was kind hard cause it was very rusted but all parts leave without any damage.
After disassembled i stated to wash all parts with a strong degreaser, i like this process cause is more easer to remove the rust with all parts cleaned.
My new helper Mr Fox was not happie with the all the dirty and rust on the parts hehe'
With all parts clean i decide to remove the rust with Vinegar, its my first time using this method and worked way better then i expected.
Now i had to debend some parts, with a help of a plier, hammer and my hands i removed all bends.
So i remove all the sharpen edges on some parts with a file.
Now i had to make two missing parts, to remake them i used a iron plate and a copper wire.
After that i remove the deep rust with hydrochloric acid, the result was awesome.
With the parts free from rust i can paint, i used 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of glossy black, 2 coats of high temperature resistence black, and painted the letters with nail polish gold.
I washed the glass with soap and glued the cracks with super glue, i couldn't do much for the broken on the glass.
I also make a cold bluing on some parts.
And all ready to assemble. The assemble was easy, and the final result turned out perfect.
A perfect restoration if i can say that hehe'

I loooove it!!!!
❤️
Mmm
I love the end result! Black + gold + red + no rust = a very satisfied (but still disgruntled looking) Mr. Fox. Surely that means you must be doing things right haha
He was mad with me about all the rust on the pieces, but in the end he was pretty happy hehe'
Thanks Bro! ❤️
Thank you for sharing. As a kid we used lamps such as this (without the red glass) as there were no other source of power where we lived.
best wishes from the east of England
Thanks! ❤️
yes, i thought it was. i collect railwayana myself, especially hand - lamps. best wishes, Mick

Thanks Michel! ❤️
A very nice result 👏 The red glass is nice too. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much mate! ❤️
@@WorkshopDC You're welcome 😊
VERY NICELY DONE!!!!! As someone who acquires old tools (spinning wheels, vintage knitting machines (40's thru early 60's), sewing machines, circular sock knitting machines (the real deal, not those plastic playthings) and brings them back to usefulness, I greatly admire and appreciate the work you put into this. Lots of thumbs up!!!!!!!!! I'm going to start working on tube-wick center-draft kerosene lamps in the near future......I have them so I may as well.....and its good to have them in case of need. I will be watching you in future.
Thanks for the kind words Rowan! ❤️
Very well done I am glad you got rid of the black block title all the way through the video 100% better
Thanks Roger!❤️
@@WorkshopDC You are welcome ! Love old lamps . Just a suggestion start looking for old brass ships lamps they are cool as hell and very rugged . Be a neat video to do you can find a bunch on ebarf I would defiantly watch . Thanks for the reply and have a good one

Eu sou brasileiro kkk ❤️
exatamente
i don,t know where you are but, i,m in the U.K. we use a milky liquid called " kurust". it turns the steel navy - blue ( which means of course that its done its job of actually killing the rust, turning it into magnetite or similar. its good stuff. you can then paint straight onto it
I know this líquid, is a very good one, hugs from Brazil! ❤️
Simply beautiful. Love it!
Thank you! ❤️

@@WorkshopDC You are welcome!!
I have a lantern similar to this one but different make. Has the red glass as well. And was used on the California Railway back in the day. Wish I could post the picture of mine. Oh well..
Muito bom!
Obrigado Wagner! ❤️
Genial, gracias. 🌼
Muchas gracias! ❤️
It was a beautiful restoration...I believe the red lens make it a railroad lantern...not sure why a farm would need a red lantern.
Thanks Mark! I also think that this lanter was from a railroad. ❤️
Nice job bro!
Thank you Justin! ❤️
Nice restoration of the old railway lantern. Shame about the cracked lens.it drops the value dramatically. Regardless it is a nice display piece.
Thanks! ❤️
That's actually an antique railroad lamp. Before the rails got automatic signaling these lamps were used incase a train broke down. A signalman would light the lamp and walk up the track far enough to worn any oncoming trains. That's why the lamp is red in color.
Thanks DK!
Hallo Mister DC. Die Lampe sieht echt gut aus. Das war tolle Arbeit. Guck mal in meinen Channel, habe ebenso einiges restauriert. Well done. You did a nice job.
Vielen Dank! Ich werde ja schauen! ❤️
Awesome well done restoration! I love the addition of Mr. Fox! Excellent work!
Thanks! He is very happy with the result too! ❤️
You can buy replacement globes for those lamps red,blue,green.clear.
Thanks for the tip Bruce! ❤️
I have an antique juicer I’d like restored. Do u offer this service?
I don’t, just restore antique for CZcams.
Thanks for watching Lily! ❤️
Was glass more brittle back then, or does it get brittle over time?
Glass was stronger back then, but it usually breaks over time.
@@WorkshopDC nice. Yeah, most everything built back then was better.
I wonder why the glass is red? 🧡
Me too! Why? 🧡
Acetic acid or white vinegar, is weaker than hydrochloric acid. Either one, wear gloves and goggles. Great restoration
Stay safe always!
Thanks MsGonzalee! ❤️
Hi why you are not write the name of the cleaning liquid on the video my greetings yas shaheen kerbal Iraq
You can turn on the subtitles on CZcams, the name of the líquid that I used to remove the rust is hydrochloric acid.
sorry for asking but, why would a farmer have a hurricane lamp with a red glass ? surely, it would be more use on a railway?
Yep It is a railway lamp. Thanks for Watching! ❤️
Tidak Ada Bahasa Indonesia 🇮🇩...😪
Ficou bom, só não gostei da cor !
Muito obrigado Pércio! ❤️
