- Come have a look at Freiburg from my perspective as an American living in Germany. If you're thinking about moving to Germany, or planning a trip (for when trips are a thing again), Freiburg is definitely worth considering.

Thanks for the video. Freiburg is a wonderful town, but you missed its most important legacy. Edmund Husserl, the founder of Phenomenology, and Martin Heidegger, arguably the most influential philosopher of the 20th century, were both at the university in Freiburg. This would be like going to Athens and not mentioning Plato and Aristotle.
Heâs giving an overview of the city.. I couldnât care less about the folks you mentioned.
My German teacher in 11th class was, you will believe it or not, the grandson of Martin Heidegger xD
great video....I am born & raised in Freiburg but live in the UK....well done!
would have been helpful to mention that Freiburg is one of the greenest cities on the planet in terms of dealing with climate change etc.
Amazing video! đ
Iâm German and my family is from Freiburg. Weâll visit again in few months.
Loved this Video .
I was born in Freiburg.
A long time ago .
Miss it ! đ
Interesting background music..
If only I knew how to speak German. This looks like my ideal place to live.
You can learn! I moved here with very basic German skills and I caught on fairly quickly. Donât let the language hold you back!
After 10 Years think you can speak german đđđđ€Šââïž
No worries due to being so close to several borders a lot of people here speak decent English
You will be surprised, how many people can speak english here. Give it a try one day! Yet we are always happy to see that someone gives his best shot and at least "tries" to speak the local language here though đđ
The best way to learn a language is to live in the country and here a lot of people can speak english also
I'm from Germany, and i have to tell ya, your German is perfekt!
Hey I recently got a scholarship from DAAD to study in Freiburg university and watching these videos is making me so excited.. can't wait to visit that beautiful city
Great video. Just one thing: As far as I know, the "BĂ€chle" were actually used as water for extinguishing fires so you wouldn't have to transport it from far away.
Actually the BĂ€chle were used to clean the streets from all the stuff which were thrown onto the streets. There were the BĂ€chleputzer who swept the dirt into the BĂ€chle and then out of the town.
Thank you for the video, James. I'm visiting Freiburg next summer. Can't wait!!! đ
So nicely done! I loved this and will probably move to Freiburg this autumn.
This seems to be a very charming city, I hope I can visit sometime in the future when all this is over. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
Great, just got an admit to uni of Freiburg, will surely love this city đ
I studied abroad and lived in Freiburg in â04-â05. An amazing city and such great memories made there. I especially loved the bĂ€chles! Vielen Dank fur dein Video!
I have gained admission to do my masters in Freiburg
Can't wait to start
Love this Vid, very calming.
Thanks James for sharing..I am from a very small village Fryeburg'Louisiana named after my great grandfather Woodrow Frye and his brother. They (I think may have been from Freiburg (or their family). Anyway checking out Freiburg through CZcams. Lovely historic town. Great picturesque area..and the old Medieval history is charming and fascinating. My daughter is engaged to a man from Germany and he is encouraging her to investigate our roots..Love thlittle canals with water and lovely architecture. Duncan's for sharing.
you may want to read the book by Dr Marc Matrana, Lost Plantation , 7 oaks , great book ,, historical account of Michael Zeringue, from the Feiberg Germany area, who came to New Orleans as a master carpenter

Take a look at the "SauschwÀnzle Bahn", Berwildpark Steinwasen, Schluchsee. All of them very interesting.
I live just 150 km away from Freiburg and never been there :P .. Thanks for share this video James, this year I would definetely go there :D
Iâm so glad I could share such a beautiful place with you! You should definitely come for a visit.
@@jamesingermany332 I will ^. -
V nice
I almost forgot. There is a wonderful restaurant just to the south up in a woodland meadow. I think it is St Valentine. Or something like that.
Great video! Even for a local ; )
The Dreisam is channeled through the city. Kohlrabi is a vegetable in the cabbage family.
I love the clip @7:21, it shows how efficient streets can be if we ban cars from some of them. It looks like a hub tram station, compare the experience of transferring a train their vs in Time Square, I know which system I'de rather use!
Cool Germany
0:38 That's false. The old painting you showed isn't from the Middle Ages. It was the Fortress of Vauban around 1700. St. Martins Gate and the Swabian Gate has nothing to do with this Fortress. The only remaining Buildings are Breisach Gate and Kanonenplatz.
Good
And the other 3 Freiburgs in Germany?
Nice views and commentary- but music doesnât match up to what we are seeing- Lol. I was there in 1987. Later I found out my maternal GG grandfather was from Freibergwhen it was Prussia. He was a stowaway on a boat to America at 7 yrs old. His grandmother wanted him to escape military service, but he ended up being drafted on the north side of Civil war and imprisoned in Andersonville (?)prison. He survived and moved out west- had more kids. Talk about weird coincidence.
Hm i think you're thinking of the wrong town ;) Freiburg in BW was never part of Prussia. There's another Freiburg further north that was tho
you got this wrong...Freiburg was never part of Prussia.....you may well be confused with Freiberg......a different city up north.
I lived there in 1984. Best place ever. I want tongue an huge shoutout for getting the butt in the Muenster. Omg the Wuerst. Well done video. If I could I would move there tomorrow. My wife is from Madagascar so we would fit right in. Vielen dank.
Come on back!
Hi James, I live in Florida and am planning to move to Europe in about 4 or 5 years. I love Germany (my great grandfather and before all lived in Germany). I dislike snow, hence living in Florida and am trying to find a smaller town/village in Germany where the weather isn't too snowy or cold. Freiburg looks to be pretty decent weather wise considering the majority of Germany doesn't have clear skies and sunny weather like florida. Can you give me a little feedback on the weather there year round and if you have any knowledge of other areas of Germany with decent weather.
Well, FREIBURG is good choice bc itÂŽs known to be a warm city with a lot of sun. The snow is up in the mountains of the blackforest, so Freiburg doesnât have much snow like i.e. the region of AllgĂ€u where the famous castle Neuschwanstein is located. But Freiburg is not a big city. If youâre looking for sth bigger, fancier with more culture, exhibitions, theater etc. you should consider Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, DĂŒsseldorf, Hamburg, Leipzig or Dresden.Good luck!
The weather is like Portland Oregon minus the rain. Flurries on occasion, but snow doesn't build-up.
â@@sm3675I think Its sunnier, warmer in summer and colder in winter than portland
IS jobs availables there
Which is the nearest international airport
Bale is the nearest airport. Then Zurich or Stuttgart / Frankfurt - all around 2 hours by car.
Hey James. I'd love to chat with you about some footage I need of Freiburg for an environmental documentary I'm wrapping up. I've searched stock sites and I'm not finding much. Please let me know if you are interested and I'll fill you in on the details. Thanks!
hello james, is there a local page for house rentals? im looking for a house or apartment in freiburg
Check out Badische Zeitung online (I found my last apartment here), Zypresse, or ImmoScout. Happy hunting!
ImmoScout24
Why did you moved here? I am living in Freiburg, was also born here. But acually i wourld prefer to live in USA ;)
2:40 based
Luisa Carlos please see this
1:48 is completely wrong!
The âBĂ€chleâ were never built for waste but for water for the horses!
Youâre right! Waste often collected in the BĂ€chle but they werenât originally designed for the purpose of waste removal. The Freiburger BĂ€chle have a long and storied history. Get an overview here:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freiburg_B%C3%A4chle?wprov=sfti1
Everywhere in Germany is gorgeous!!!! The Bavarian Forest and Alps are the best though!!
