    I had the tank at 72F but my telescope butterfly fancy goldfish developed swim bladder issues. It’s doing better at 80F. Now I am thinking to settle the temp for the long term at either 76F or 78F for swim bladder health.

    Hey, I am planning to setup a Ranchu Tank and my average tank temperature is around 30c to 32c (86F to 90F), it right?

      @AquaticElements  Před 16 dny +1

      I would keep slightly lower if you're planning to keep thai or indo imports, but they will do okay at that level with plenty of oxygen

    Some dangerous infections and pathogens, like columnaris, for example, also prefer warm water, so consistently keeping your goldfish at tropical temperatures might not be a good idea long-term. I read in the wild they are most active at 22-24 degrees.

    Hi there, great video you clearly know your stuff mate, normally when people talk about temps they just recall information they saw on other websites, it’s nice to see you basing your information off so many sources like breeders, academics and your own experience it’s a nice change. I was wondering is it possible to keep a pearlscale in a tropical community tank at 25 degrees? It’s heavily planted and I run an aerator at night for exactly the reasons you described in the video.

      Really appreciate the comments, thank you! And yes pearscales will be happy and thrive in this enrivornment, however its tank mates you need to be wary of. Personally I'd say fancies are best as species only but I know many keep them in community systems. I would try to avoid any large or boisterous fish, also plecos can definitely be a risk too. Thanks for watching 😁

      @@AquaticElements That’s great advice thank you. I’m mainly planning stocking super small shoaling dither fish and some tropical danios to help encourage my pearlscale, I would’ve liked to have kept him with his old tank mate which was a very old black moor, he was 15 or 16 when he passed away but now I want to put him with some other fish for enrichment, it’s too sad seeing him on his own in there.

    Hey Chris, I've just got my goldies from Star Fisheries today, yes absolutely ecstatic! I'm going to be keeping them at 25C (77F). It was funny seeing your face when you realised you shot yourself in the foot when you say, not to listen to a 23 year old, 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @AquaticElements
      @AquaticElements  Před rokem

      Yes, I wouldn't want fancy goldfish going below 10 degrees but ideally kept above 15 would be best.

    I keep them in 24 c mixed with tropical fish ... will that be good for both of them ?

    • @AquaticElements
      @AquaticElements  Před 2 lety +1

      The temperatures are both fine for the different species however the tropical fish may not be compatible with goldfish or may like slightly different water parameters. For the longevity of them all its best to keep separated but it can be done together.

    Hey are u an advocate of large water changes ...60%-100% if so how to you keep your pH,GH and KH level constant when adding in new water?What do u make sure is same in the old and new water?Thanks Jay

    • @AquaticElements
      @AquaticElements  Před rokem +2

      Hey Jay, yes I do like doing big water changes as long as you can ensure the source water is similar in temperature and parameters then its not a problem. If you are changing water fairly regularly then your source water should have similar mineral and harness content to your system. Hope that helps, thanks 😊 🙏

    • @NoName-rr3zh
      @NoName-rr3zh Před rokem

      My tap water has a KH of 1 that a bit of a problem and a GH of 2.are those okay for goldfish

    • @AquaticElements
      @AquaticElements  Před rokem +1

      Ahh I see! Okay in that case I would definitly buffer your source water up to maybe 3-4Kh. You can use bicarbonate of soda. Just keep an eye on your aquariumm kh levels as you don't want to crash your pH. Other mineral additives like montmorillonite clay may be beneficial as well 😃

    • @NoName-rr3zh
      @NoName-rr3zh Před rokem

      Thanks...:) What do u reccomend keeping the GH,PH and KH Of goldfish?(Thanks for ur advice really helps)

    • @AquaticElements
      @AquaticElements  Před rokem +2

      I would always advocate keeping it as close to your source water at possible to prevent swings. However in your case its really low so I would always aim for around 3-4Kh and add some clay to the water to help with mineral content. You could always add a bag of crushed coral or oyster shells to your filter as this will also help keep things more stable. Stability is always best over chasing numbers 😀
