Luke, love your videos. I love goldies too.
I keep mine outside in a claw foot bathtub pond. They stay out all year. I live in northern CA, so we don't get snow or anything, but it does get pretty cold. They do just fine in cold water. They don't eat as much, but mine like to eat every day even in winter. The only thing is they won't really grow bigger during the cold season. In spring they try to spawn like crazy, lol. Summers are long here, and my pond is on my patio, and I really enjoy hanging out with them.

Hey Luke...I wanted to say thank you from my heart for all of your efforts and creatively informative videos. I've never "joined a channel" before yours. I have lost 3 goldfish to what I am not positive is ich. I have a 40 gallon live planted aquarium that uses two sponge filters and one fluval biomedia over the back filter. I have added the 1tbs/5gal api salt about five days ago. On Wed I even gave each of them their first salt baths 1tbsp/1gal. I have 1 Ranchu, 3 Apache Thai, 1 black Moore, and 2 more common orandas. All of which are young and less than 3 inches in size as I've only just begun keeping them about a month ago. I have another planted 40gal aquarium with the same filtration setup. I usually do 4/4 fish per tank but I've moved everyone to the long tank and cranked the heat up in the tall tank trying to eradicate this parasite from it so that I can repeat this method after I switch them. Can you please give me feedback? Do you have any money saving/ life saving knowledge that you would share with me please? I'm emotionally attached to my fish and I would really like to see them survive.

Man, I'm watching this and thinking about my poor 4 oversized koi goldfish living in their tiny foot washing tub that's not very deep or has a big diameter with no filter, we just suck out their poop with a mini turkey baster, I didn't even know about nitrifying bacteria's existence, and we just keep feeding them flakes because they don't like the pellets we gave them. Your fish look so happy, and I don't know if my fish are genuinely suffering or doing ok.

30 gal minimum with double filtration can support 2 goldfish and you need to do regular water changes. A 20 gal is too small, they get large and it’s not fair for them to spend their whole life in anything less. I work at a pet store and we literally won’t sell them if they’re going in anything smaller than a 30. If you can’t afford the space then don’t get the animal, they’re not decorations.
