Are you teens looking for something to make for Mom and Dad this year will you are going to love this inexpensive gift ideal(I hope).
As a Mother my favorite gifts at Christmas are the gifts made by my daughter's special little hands. She would not want me telling you that because she thinks she is all grown up.

Steps for You
After emptying out your can, be sure to save your can for this quick and easy craft for the holidays.
1. Clean you tin can before you begin.
2. Fill your tin with 1/2 Sand and 1/2 Water. The Sand will keep the can from busting at the seams.
3. Set this in the freezer to freeze. It needs to be completely frozen to begin your work.
4. Nail Your Design. You can use stencils, or draw your own ideal on the can and then go to work.
When you are finished designing let the water thaw out, and I suggest you let cans thaw outside. So you don't have a miss inside.
I poured the sand out and rinsed the can out with water. Making it all clean again. Thank you I totally left that step out.
5. Make a Hanger from a recycled coat hanger. You don't have to hang your lantern they look great sitting around also.
Maybe write a special little note and give as a gift to a parent, teacher, or friend.
I hope this helps spark creativity in you this holiday season, because it is always better to give then receive.
Thank you for stopping by the studio and please share our site with a friend for Christmas.

I might paint a few of these also... Could have them to match for a 4th July party or valentines day...... Any holiday really... Very cute and versatile, thanks for the idea!!:)
Love it. Our church is doing something different for our Christmas Party gift exchange. It is decided you had to recycle something from your home. Either make it from things in your home or bring something from your home. I am going to do this. I am going to spray paint the outside with the paint made for grills to withstand high heat. Thanks for the idea. Dee
SO CUTE!!:)
This is awesome!
I am so glad that you mentioned the spray paint, I will add that to the "how to article" on the whimsy website and reference you Lovely Dee.
Really great idea saves all the trash in the recycling dept
Good point, After the water thawed out, and I suggest you let them thaw outside. So that way you don't have a miss inside.
I poured the sand out and rinsed the can out with water. Making it all clean again. Thank you I totally left that step out.
This is a GREAT idea, thanks
cool
MY nieces and me did this last night it was really easy to do and they came out pretty
Awesome, children are so creative anyway.
thank you
great idea, do you remember when these cans were just straight without the corrugations? When did that happen?
Im going to try this with a drillbit...
Wait how did you light it? Did you just light the sand on fire ? Or
Why do u have to put sand and water then freeze it? Why can't u just poke holes in it then put the candle in it?
The cans bend when you hit the nail with a hanger. The sand/ice makes it solid so they don't dent in.
Why do u need 2 put sand?
Gressia the sand helps keep the can from expanding and bursting at the seam.
Ohhhh okay thanks
