We just started a new game last night and my brother is a playing a Divine Soul Sorcerer, but his focus is an electric guitar. So he looks and feels like a bard, but his story is that the gods chose his bloodline to play for them! When he dies, his soul will fill the heavens with sick licks and killer riffs!

I think my best "Unconventional" character was a Barbarian Kenku called Nuke Dukem... Ohhhhh I found a good soundboard and everything for this guy. Talk about some amazing one liners and chaos at a table.

I got into DnD through D20 episodes and recently again through BG3, but your videos got recommended to me a while back through CZcams. Your podcast very quickly became one of my favorites for learning more about the lore and the technical aspects of the game, I queue up like 20 for my 10 hour work days and the time flies by (though I'm gonna hit rerun territory here soon). Really just wanted to say how much I love the podcast, y'all do such an amazing job!! Will's DM experience really shows in how he presents topics, which makes them feel so much richer than reading a block of text on my own. Brian's comparisons back to cultural references are also super helpful too to help digest and conceptualize all the information and I just love the hilarious tangents between y'all. I could honestly gush for a minute here but instead I'll just say I'm looking forward to listening to many more episodes to come!! Wishing you all the best and so so much success for the podcast, it's so deserved ❤

I played a Undead Warlock mixed with Swarmkeeper Ranger. He had a diety he referred to as "The Atlas." He had moths fluttering around him from his swarmkeeper stuff and had a the quasit as pact of the Chain that appeared as an Atlas Moth which was a reflavor of the raven it can turn into. When he uses his form of dread he essentially gathers his swarm much closer and appears as like a Mothman type of creature. I was inspired to create something with 2 things that don't normally work well, which was Ranger and Warlock, but Eldritch blast plays very nicely with the extra damage your swarm gives you with swarm keeper and the free flight is nice too

The ballad of buster scrubs character Jasper mentions makes me think of a happy, reasonable rogue who will just shank you if you don't treat people with respect and civility.

I love unconvential characters! I had an idea for a super noble-seeming paladin who is actually a charlatan fighter or rogue that uses slight of hand to appear like he has magic. Like using bioluminescent algae or tricks with reflections on his sword so it appears he has a glowing divine smite. His story would get interesting when divine magic is required to solve an issue and he literally just can't do it.

My current character is quite unconventional. We've just reached level 20 after a multi year campaign. My character is a Halfling, level 8 Storm Herald Barbarian, level 12 Celestial Warlock. He's a religious fanatic sworn to serve Auril. Lawful Evil and loves to fight whoever looks like they're the strongest. He plays the violin, even has an adamantine violin bow to smack hecklers and/or enemies with. His spells and abilities make him extremely hard to kill. I've managed to pick up some winged boots, a belt of fire giant strength, a Vorpal Scimitar, and a cape that lets me cast Dimension Door once a day. I picked up the Metamagic Adept and Spell Sniper feats. I also have the Eldritch Smite, Repelling Blast, and Eldritch Spear Invocations. One of my favorite tactics is to lure an enemy away from the group, use Thunder Step or Dimension Door to teleport into the air, and start firing Eldritch Blasts (often Quickened Spelled) like Frieza shooting Death Beams. I've used the tactic so much that my DM let me take Vicious Mockery so I could really play up the "I'm better than you and I know it" flavor because it was her that pointed out that I had basically built Frieza without even realizing it.

The statement about Luffy, Wisdom, and Luck. Specifically the "it's not learned its instinctive" made me think, Why isn't the Sorcerer a Wisdom Caster?

If you haven't read the series NPCs by Drew Hayes (the series is called Swords, Stealth, and Sorcery I believe). It tracks right along with this subject and is one of the best fantasy series I've read in forever.

I've been really into Granblue Fantasy for a few years now, and it's a goldmine of interesting character concepts that could be adapted into D&D. Another that I keep coming back to is Magic the Gathering. While there are MTG supplements for D&D and they have a lot of similar concepts, there's enough different, especially from older sets, that would make interesting character concepts. Doesn't even have to be any of the Legendary creatures, tons of regular creatures would work too.

Haha, talking about playing around with Druid, and one of my favorite characters was a Tiefling Druid who was all about volcanos and geology. She'd see a forest and think about what it might be like to light it on fire. Felt exposed and on edge in an open field, but loved the comfort of a twisting cavern. We had druidcraft work for her sorta like the dwarf stonecunning ability, and she ended up being pretty good at Urban stuff too...bc lots of buildings are made out of stone, or near geothermal vents or what have you.
As character development, she eventually became a tempest cleric as well, embracing the similarly destructive power of storms to pair with her natural volcano/wildfire affinity. Anyway, yeah...she was very much not the "plants and animals" nature type and it was very fun to play in that space with her.

I mentioned it before but I did a wild magic barbarian that was dex based and dual wielded rapiers.
    It was God. Damn. Awesome.
I also did a lizardfolk old one sorcerer with a stupid high 18 con and only a 15 Cha and was an utter idiot with a fascination with math books for the pretty pictures.
    Pure awesome sauce.

A dwarven herald of the storm barbarian completely convinced he’s destined to become an avatar of Moradin when he achieves his revenge against a litch who sent a bone construct think Sphinx but bones (warhammer has them) and the dwarf nearly died from its necrotic aura but he had a vision, activated his rage, and delivered the final blow to the construct. He now drunkenly roams the world with his loxodon grave cleric companion hunting the forces of undeath.
And after a joke suggestion made by his player he is now at lvl 5 having to distract a cr26 home brew dragon in the middle of a city of duergar (who he’s racist against) with rare wine and a charisma 10 while the party sneaks in the back door to kidnap the dragons yuanti priestess to give a magical cure to our wizard who made an artifact sword mad
    Help

Human races when it comes to melanin and what not seems generally unnecessary. All races are a monolith in dnd generally speaking . As to say orc or human, Skin color tends to be the least important characteristic difference between the races of faerun. If a pc decides to specifically be a "darker skin toned human" in their character description then ill try to figure out a region of area on my map where they would have come from originally and what not.
