Wow you guys!, you have upped your game, Bravo. I have seen all your videos and for many reasons I think this is one of your very best. Jen, it's nice to see you participate more in the dialogue and presentation. You have a lot to add to these videos. I encourage you to keep going in this direction. The whole video is more balanced and friendly and entertaining. I found myself drawn in by the enthusiasm you two share for these hikes into the wild. Also, now you two seem more comfortable on camera and this apparently allows you to be more playful with the presentation while still being informative. Good for you guys, you're creating your own style as you go. I also appreciate the work you do where, for example, you ford one of the streams, set up a camera, ford back across, turn around cross it for a third time to get the sequence and then edit it so the viewer sees you fording it, as if, for the first time. Great progress, great video, congratulations!!!

A lot of the hikes we want to do include over 4.5K in elevation gain. So as we wait for the snow to melt on the bigger mountains, we try to pick hikes that are going to be over 4K, just so we aren't completely broken. :)
Nice hike. Love that area and whoever say's the hiking is limited out there needs to "get their priorities straight in life". Heard that from the Master Hiker Nickowan Kanobe.
We were talking to a seasoned hiker yesterday in the mountains and we were both talking about this new trail, wondering how they plan to set up Granite to support the amount of cars that the lot can handle. At this point, it's still very remote and limited in access once you pass the bridge. Either way, the work that has been done will definitely attract a lot of people to little know area. :)
Have you guys done the Enchanted Valley trail yet? I just got back from it on Thursday. I think it's right up your alley - tons of viewpoints following a river, ancient trees, wildlife, and enough waterfalls to make you bored of waterfalls.
Hi Dan, we have not done Enchanted Valley yet. It's definitely on our list. I wanted to backpack it a couple years ago, but the bears were a problem at the time and we were not permitted to camp until they cleared out. How long did you spend on it?
I remember reading about some aggressive, food hungry bears 2 years back. I took 3 days (I'm tipping the scales a bit, so I only backpacked the 6.5mi to Oneal camp, then dayhiked to the valley and back on day 2, and packed out on the 3rd. Honestly, you two should have no trouble making it into the valley in one go.
Ooops my bad, sorry for misinformation. I sometimes get caught up in marathoning videos,i may have mixed you up with another hiker. Once again i'm sorry.
Wow!! Granite lake is a mirror! It reminds me of the Humantay lake (when cloudy), in Peru. When you say that there's no one on these trails, I really feel that you're enjoying it a lot more. We can trully see this along the journey in your faces, in your simple and joyfull dialogues. Your sense of humor is unique! Thank you again, Nick and Jen. There's definitely a sense of wonderment when you can drive past hundreds of cars and then hit a trail and hardly see another soul. Shutting off from the daily grind and surrounding yourself in nature is the best kind of medicine. :)

I should! I have a small backpacking rod, I just never bring it because I don't plan on eating the fish I catch. If we do a relaxed backpacking hike to a lake this season, I will try to bring the rod and see what I can catch. :)
If you expand the about text you will get a link to the GPS track. From there you will be able to find the location of the hike as most of these hikes have no address, only GPS coordinates. Also, if you do not have a GPS, then I highly advise you get one so you can not only find you way tot he summit, but also your way back to the car. :)

Outside & Stuff I don't think my google drive link worked properly. I was trying to show the cabin located at Thompson Point. I noticed it while looking at G Maps of the area around where you hiked. Looks like a cool spot!
Ahh the cabin on Thompson point. Yes, that's along the way to Revolution and then Russian Butte. We're hoping to do the bushwhack/scramble up Russian Butte this summer which will take us past the cabin.
For this hike I was wearing the Mountain Trainer GTX by Salewa. To be honest, an approach style shoe really isn't necessary for a lake hike like this. But I have yet to find (purchase) a traditional hiking shoe for these less technical hikes. I'm thinking about getting the North Face Ultra 109 GTX, but have yet to try them on.
