    I'll bet your 3/8" adapter is working as a torque stick. If you change it for a beefier one that doesn't deflect you would likely see bigger torque values.

    • @vicv7075
      @vicv7075 Před 4 lety +1

      I don't believe I've seen any 1/4"hex to 3/8" adapters much beefier than that, I actually thought it looked pretty sturdy. Most of the ones I've seen just have the 1/4" hex shaft all the way to the square drive.

    Funny, i just recently bought one of these about 3 months back. I absolutely love it. That dang 2AH battery lasts frickin FOREVER. I've never had it die on me a single time. I've only charged it a couple times due to anxiety of finally having it die at the wrong time(battey does not have the charge indicator lights). Highly recommend .

    Using the 1/2 inch adaptor and some chrome molybdenum sockets will yield the best results with this type of impact driver. Try it 👍🏻 I have one that is rated for 180Nm and I have undone 200Nm bolts with a 1/2 inch adaptor and Chrome Molybdenum socket.

    Good side track video I use that brand also great little gadgets. They make about 4 different size ratings in the 1/4" impact. I stripped down my boat trailer for rebuild this season and used all new bolts on the rebuild and the little 1/4" driver torqued down all the new 5/16" bolts very nicely.

  • @GrantSR
    @GrantSR Před 4 lety

    My main use for a 1/4" impact driver is for wood screws. An impact driver doesn't strip out the Phillips head "slots" in wood screws. It's also great for removing old wood screws, when you don't have the option of choosing torx screws. Even a cheap, Harbor Freight impact driver is better than a good regular drill.

    I’ve got the 1/2” and 3/8” impacts and love them. Very reliable and the 1/2” spins off anything I need. Would have done Milwaukee but am already too heavily invested in the Dewalt system. No regrets. High quality stuff. Hint - if you need to clean the plastic spray some brake cleaner on a paper towel and all that grime and grease comes right off and they look like new.

  • @yusuihang
    @yusuihang Před 4 lety +1

    I have this dewalt impact driver. The torque output depends on the socket adapter used. It can't remove passenger car lug nuts (torqued to 80 ft lbs) using 3/8" socket adapter. But use a 1/2" socket adapter, it removes the lug nuts no problem.

    Thanks, just purchased the gun. Its awesome. My only gripe I guess is that I am trying to use it like the 3/8" big guy you shown earlier. I need to find a spool piece to go from 1/4 female to 3/8 male adapter. It's great on deck screws and such. Thanks again for the tip.

    I'm amazed by the torque that a 1/4" gun can do. I recently got the Milwaukee version, and like it. They claim 2000 inch pounds, which comes to 167 foot pounds, about double the spec for the wheel nuts on my car. Even allowing for exaggeration or optimism from the maker, that's damn good.
    Your Dewalt issue may soon be matched by my Milwaukee issue. See you in therapy!

  • @hoffa2586
    @hoffa2586 Před 4 lety

    I bought a 1/4” 20v DeWalt to replace my 18v Makita because I wanted higher breakaway torque to remove lug nuts etc. I returned it after 1 use as it was not nearly as powerful as the 4 year old Makita and felt cheap too. After some digging based on advertised torque it looked like I should have picked up the XR series and a 5amp hour battery. Home Depot had that combo on Labor Day for $128 but limited to stock on hand so I missed out. That’s ok because thanks to this video even the 20v 1/4 XR is not enough for lug nuts as you demonstrated on the cam bolts. Looks like I need a 1/2” XR like you showed in the background. Wouldn’t it be cool if someone made an impact gun with settable torque values?!

  • @bgrey55
    @bgrey55 Před 3 lety

    Heyy good to see you again. Love your vids, these drivers work best when you'd with impact attachments. You cut the power more than half when you use the wrong attachment. I have the same driver and it can take off lugnuts off my tire. It can take off a nut that's around 80 footprints, I tested it myself. I love dewalt but Millwaki does make the more powerful light weight impact driver but the downside is that Milwaukee ones burnout fast than dewalt.

    • @bgrey55
      @bgrey55 Před 3 lety

      @Joe Copa well try the adaptor made bye Milwaukee or in your case Dewalt. Harbor freight sell the no name brand that work just fine also. But millwaki make good ones. really It has to say impact rated a must. It should take off a lug nut that has a 1/2 adaptor attachment that is torch around 60 pounds in about 5 to 10 seconds. 80 footpounds a little more time. I wouldn't use it for those high torch all the time, it will wear the device down faster and kill it but it can do those pounds in those times. In the first post, I said Makita make high torch small drivers I meant Milwaukee. But they burn out fast because of the high torch. Please let me know If it works for you. I usually use it to take off nuts off control arm off my cars. Because it is small enough to fit in tight spaces. So I know it can handle medium amount of work when it's needed.
