- Milwaukee Fuel vs DeWalt DCF 888B vs Makita XDT16Z vs Bauer. Not all impact drivers survive this showdown as sparks fly for one impact driver and another one nearly has a meltdown as grease pours out of the impact driver housing. After testing the impact drivers, they were dropped from 10 feet onto concrete to test durability. Finally, all of the impact drivers were disassembled to compare internal components. Thanks again and best regards, Todd

Nothing strikes fear in the hearts of tool manufacturers than Project Farm saying, "We're gonna test that".
Thank you very much!
Unless you're Milwaukee apparently. They just sit back smiling and go, "we'll wait".
This man is a national treasure. People like him will encourage manufactures to make better products or at least not exaggerate their products capabilities.
Project Farm is to tool manufacturers what Lock Picking Lawyer is to locksmith/lock manufacturers.
Right up there with the fear that LPL strikes into the hearts of lock manufacturers.
I think we're at the point where I need to consult this channel every time I go to the hardware store.
Thanks for watching!
I was going to post the same thing. I refuse to buy any more tools until Project Farm kicks out a video on it. I bought two Cryobis an impact driver and an impact wrench. The impact wrench cant even tighten my lug nuts past 60 pounds.
God bless corporate America ( and other money hungry nations & conglomerates ! ) in the noble pursuit to build the cheapest item out there !
Frustrating but true >_>. Name ,loyalty, quality assurance mean very little to most now =/ =( .
@@jamesgittings3527 funny you mention that, as I sent an email to Hanes last week complaining about their one-ply undershirts. My question was how do you make cotton so thin that you can read through it!
Agreed
I always end up watching your vids twice, the first time because im interested and for entertainment value, and the second time because I actually am looking to buy a tool or something. Thanks for helping me make informed decisions
You are welcome!
no way you're here
Earlier this year, I picked up the Bauer at $59.99 and thought, "Why not?"
I've been using it to run lugs nuts off and back on my vehicles, change shocks on the Bronco and a few other odd jobs. So far, no complaints. It was 60 bucks, after all. I'll just have to remember not to try and cold drill a 6 inch bolt through a railroad tie with it.
Thanks for sharing!
Lol ya or ya might have to spend more than a new impact 🔥
What size battery did you use to remove car lug nuts? I'm thinking of throwing a Dewalt DCF885 (1/4" impact driver) with 20V 2 AH battery into the back of my car for use instead of using the usual 4-way lug wrench.
been a while, still going ??
my driver has a hard time removing my car's lugs. but i got a high torque for that now XD

This entire channel is better than any Amazon reviews combined.
Wow! Thank you!

Except for that review on the milwaukee 1/2" impact wrench. You know the one.

30 years ago I took my Milwaukee sawzall into a Milwaukee factory repair shop to get a new jaw that holds the blade. It was a slow day and the tech guy replaced the cord and the jaw along with the guard while I stood there and watched. Great I said what do I owe you. He said "Nothing, Glad to have you as a customer" That simple act. Locked me in for life. I still have that sawzall today. Service means a lot. I'm Glad that Milwaukee is still kickin it.

I watch other "what's the best" testing videos but yours I find myself always coming back to your channel you are thorough, you're usually serious about the testing and get right to it instead of distracting viewers with your behavior thank you for taking that extra time to be professional about things. One can see the depth you'll go for your videos which is awesome again thanks for all of them and I look forward to more to come. I'm a proud supporter of your research and am glad to see you still out there making more! Knowledge is power!
Excellent video. I switched from Dewalt to Makita about 4-5 years ago. At the time I was tired of DeWalt's batteries going bad too fast. I have no idea how many hardly used batteries from DeWalt's I have. Since switching to Makita, I have not lost one battery the same way I did with DeWalt. Hopefully, I'm healthy enough in the fall when it cools down to complete the many projects I have. These are pretty much the best tool video's on CZcams. As a old Viet Vet, I greatly appreciate your time and efforts!
Thanks! Thanksk for sharing.
I have a Makita cordless drill that is 20 years old and it's 9.6V NiCad battery still charges and works. Now, I don't think it's charging even close to what it did when fresh, but I'm impressed it's not dead. Still good for small jobs.
yep, this part does not get tested. Makita has the best battery longevity and they charge fast.
Awfully strange and sorry to hear your bad experience. I've been using my Dewalts for 5 years now and haven't lost but 1 battery. It was due to me dropping the tool
@@IndorilNerevar I had a Dewalt dropped underneath a cow hay feeder and it sat there for at the least 3 months during winter. Eventually found it after the 4th ish month and the drill and battery still worked somehow and it still works today.

Here's a test. See if you can get the Bauer replaced under their "heavy duty" warranty.
Probably can- HF almost always just takes a quick look in the box to see that the tool is in there, then tells you to go get a new one off the shelf. Sign the paperwork and off you go.
Its literally that easy
Thanks for the suggestion.
And then walk back in and return the new one.
@@P_RO_ totally true.

Thank you for your honest reviews. You have helped me in buying the better tools from the multitude available. Have you ever had any companies try to stop you from reviewing products ?
have you ever considered doing intra-brand category test series?
milwaukee has like 5 or 6 different impact guns, same with bosch, dewalt, etc.
would be cool to see where each model in the lineup stands, then heading a final video which compares category leaders (or just having a chart that shows all of them stacked up without a video)

DeWalt impact driver: *catches fire*
DeWalt app: OK
Thanks for watching!
it didn't catch on fire it just burned all the grease in the hammer assembly from the friction which is not a fatal fail the tool is still perfectly operable and did a good job in the test. the app measures motor temp and the motor was able to stay cool through all of that torture. all of that continued friction on the hammers and anvil trying to push a lag through hard wood is going to take it's toll on any 3/8'' impact driver since they aren't made for that, and we do see this in the video since they all smoked and one of them totally bit the dust.
@@ElectronicsForFun Milwaukee did not smoke because it has overload protection built into the electronics. Its just an overall superior tool.
@@terry504able it wasn't overload because nothing was being overloaded. but if you just hold it like that then it goes into a "limp home" type mode where it retards itself because it's not confident enough in it's build quality. the makita and the dewalt did just fine.
Dealt is the best
Thanks for the video. I own a Milwaukee impact driver like that. I’ve had it for 4 or 5 years now. When I bought it, I was trying to get the most powerful impact driver in its class. Your video confirms that at least compared to the 2 other popular brands.

J T if you want to get technical hilti is a lifetime warranty and 95% of the time the rep that comes to pick up the broken tool will give you a new replacement on the spot if he has one.
J T Lifetime manufacturers warranty
We’ll repair or replace all tools free of charge, which are faulty or defective due to manufacturing faults - over the entire life of the product.
That is straight from the hilti sight and I have dealt with hilti reps more than I can count.
U do realize that its the most affordable bang for buck even though only 90days factory hence why hf has extended warranty’s for a few bucks more. Not to mention the easy of when needing a warranty done. Good luck with the others. U gotta call and make a claim. You pay to ship it to the mfg. The mfg determines IF ITS THERE FAULT. If then they will fix or replace BUT U PAY return SHIPPING. All this waiting while ur job at hand suffers. With the baur u walk in and walk out. They dont hassle u with tons of questions or paperwork.

Because I'm Japanese, I'm a Makita guy. But, by watching impact driver, impact wrench, ratchet wrench comparison video, looks like Milwaukee is the best brand for cordless power tools. I will try milwaukee tool when I get my 3rd stimulus check!
I prefer dewalt and Milwaukee products. But, I will typically buy Makita because they usually provide a hard case with their products. I hate that most tools don't come with cases these days

Yep, save the tool and still perform better than the competitors
That is what I was thinking. Not a bad idea if some crazy person decides to drive a 7" bolt into a railroad tie...
Yes and it's a very good feature I've had Milwaukee tools for almost a decade now and throughout Barry heavy use they always continue to work but also the batteries and the system protects the tool and the cells in the battery from damage.
Milwaukee puts thermal protection on all of their tools. Sometimes it hinders the tool when doing tests like these, but very few people ever abuse the tools like these tests do.

Consumer Reports Could Possibly Be Bought Off ???? Where Project Farm Definitely Is Not !!! He Always States That He Is Not Supplied By The Name Of The Manufactured Brand He Uses ! He purchases out of Pocket so he gets a true test without any interference from the brand name company !
@@r.j.4977 Having a high view count, lots of subscribers, likes and links is the revenue stream if not sponsored or taking freebies. You have to have QUALITY content for this approach to pan out. Except for Scotty. He abuses clickbaiting to a new level. His older content was quite good. So far, the FARMER is legit!
I’ve been familiar with Consumer Reports for decades. They’ve dumbed down their testing to reach a wider dumbed down market. The tests are often ridiculously irrelevant and often quite shallow. Often very telling when they are clearly out of their element on products. (They did one that I recall on sound systems, it read like a comedy, totally irrelevant reasons as to why you’d by those products. That is unless you were only interested in feeling good that they actually sanctioned your choice, no matter how irrelevant the criteria) This Project Farm guy is that guy that showed up with that masterpiece term paper that clearly shows a ton of well thought out procedure, setup, testing, and results interpretation vs that slacker that comes to class on deadline day with a hastily scribbled “report” written during an all nighter.
I know! I go back and review this channel pretty much anytime I need to make a purchase of auto/garage related. My windshield wipers, crazy glue, JB Weld (original of course), and ratchet straps are just a few things I purchased after watching these tests and making my decision, and it's been money well spent each time.
Now... If we could only get Todd to give marriage advice...🤔 🤣
"Going fishing on a three day trip will result in up to 27 negative remarks from your spouse, we are gonna test that!" 😂
The Milwaukee isn't "powering down" this is called over current protection and it keeps people from abusing the tool like this. That's why it's the only impact drive that didn't try to catch fire during the lag test. It's a feature, not a failure.
Thanks for the feedback.
It's actually a battery temp issue. That is the main way of protection. The milwaukee batteries will put out of to 100 A for their high Ah batteries.
It's also to prevent the base voltage of the lithium ion battery dropping below s certain value, which would prevent it from recharging properly.
Mine does it after 1 mins use

ohnestly , in my experience this helps but soon as a tool smokes, IMHO its done, it may just take 6 months to show its done, but its done. I use cordless power tools every day and have just grown to accept, soon as I see smoke, may as well buy another cause that tool cannot be depended upon.
@J S it also depends on why they are smoking.
What fun would that be? Nothing is as fun as watching crap being destroyed. The best failure is a catastrophic failure, at least they are the most fun.
Thanks for the great video! Had been wondering which one to buy. Now I know! Thanks!!!
You are welcome!

This guy's humor is off the screw-ball charts. Cary Grant would've been proud of him.
Dewalt app: Temperature is fine
Dewalt impact: *on fire*
What do you expect since it's pretty much Black & Decker which makes the cheapest power tools you can buy now days besides some super cheap store brands like from HF & Menards. Although B&D used to make decent tools many many years ago.

Thanks for watching.
@@benkeysor7576 i still have some of my grandfathers DeWalt drills from back in the day still kicking. working better with these new batteries they have. newer DeWalt tools i'd stay away from the flashy ones. the simple DeWalt tools are the real ones.
@@thatguybrody4819 That is what I'm saying, the older stuff is decent & well made. I don't typically like battery tools just due to the cost & batteries needing replacement but I have a very old Makita drill & a very old Makita circular saw both 120 volts. Both the drill & saw are still very good functional tools and never had any issues. I wouldn't trade them for anything newer.
We have a makita, a few Milwaukee’s, a dewalt and a rigid on our deck building crew. They all work good driving in 3” deck screws but we grab the Milwaukee for doing the lag bolts, not because the other ones won’t but the Milwaukee will do more faster
Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you soooo much!!!!! GREAT FULL REVIEW!!! Your review has helped me with my decision!!!! 👍👍
You are welcome! Glad to hear!
Milwaukee has a red link system that watch’s the battery and tool and watch’s the heat and will cut off the tool to try and protect it for the user.
FishFind3000 For the user. Or //from// the user 😄
Definitely from the user!
@@jandastroy truf. I had their m18 drill grab and start to spin. It spun in such a way that it pinned my finger on the trigger and couldn't let go. The drill detected that something was wrong, and it shut off.
Using a drill in low gear is always terrifying, so I'm glad it has that feature. It bent the fuck out of the metal box I was drilling, but I was unharmed.
Shawn a box is replaceable but your hand is not that’s neat how it shift off
The M18 drill is a beast. It beats the crap out of a corded dewalt my dad has. Not even comparable.
Another brilliant comparison. Was literally just considering buying either the Milwaukee or Dewalt, decision made!! Thanks a lot.
Thanks so much!
You'll be glad you did and wish you did a long time ago.
I am a farmer and I have the dewalt. It gets used nearly every day. Always in the dirt and I have had it for 4 years. It is a good one. It got ran over by a schoolbus loaded with watermelons when I first bought it. It mashed it in the ground. It popped some pieces apart and bent it a little but it snapped back together and has been fine since then. I dropped it in a bucket of transmission fluid once. When I got done using it that day I took it apart and sprayed the circuitry and trigger etc with brake cleaner. No problems. I use mine in the water all the time (spray hose clamps, rain etc)and it doesnt seem to hurt it. Mine is the older version without bluetooth. It is rusted from being sprayed with liquid nitrogen fertilizer but it has held up fine otherwise.
The one thing that tipped the scales to Makita for me over Milwaukee was their compact LXT line: having lightweight tools that use the same batteries is so much more convenient than having 2 different batteries / form factors and the 1.5Ah 18V LXT batt is still quite light, even with all-day overhead driving. But I don't need those tiny screw drive tools or 1/4" eRachets, like the Fuel M12 stuff is mostly used for, so YMMV. You can't go wrong with either really !
Dave Johnson Milwaukee has the same exact thing fyi
Trigger control is important to me. I can get my Milwaukee M12 impact driver under load slow enough to impact 1/4 screw turns at about 1 seconds each impact, which is really handy getting a drywall screw a touch deeper. Very impressed. The pocketable M12 units have been everyones go-to 90% of the time.
Thanks for the feedback.
This had an impact on my purchase options thanks 😉👍
You are welcome! Glad to hear!
I look forward to This every Monday! Especially now a days
Thank you very much! This means a lot to me!!
I had an older Milwaukee that continued going all the way until it smoked the brushless motor. It still works but makes a horrible noise, and doesn't work very well. The replacement now shuts down just like yours when I try to misuse it in a similar fashion to the way that killed the first one. I suspect Milwaukee has revised their protection circuitry and logic so that it cuts out earlier, creating a slight annoyance when you're running at the edge, but keeping you from killing the tool.
i would rather have control than safety, this "shuts down because you are a dummy" mode is taking away the freedom to do whatever i want with a tool i bought.
@@MartinPlanner2 Still, the fact that the manufacturer has to protect the tool from its users says something...
People will let the magic smoke out of the tools due to incorrect usage and claim warranty.. Or that their tools break because they suck.
I get the idea though, I've run several old drills to the smoking point to get jobs done... But honestly, it's not really good practice.
@@TheDaniel85 yes i understand that, meanwhile, because it has a thermometer, they could claim that if it overheated, there is no warranty, period.
it is such a nanny state, that we have been implementing defensive measures against crooks, while this just made them be more crooked and smarter, instead of stopping them doing scams.
i only buy a tool that i can repair myself, electric or not. and i have never took back a tool for warranty.
faulty production? that's a scam on cheapskate parts.
of course there are price-brakets for scams, so a faulty car is a higher offense than a faulty 1$ tool.
not in my perspective though...
The red link technology will shut down to protect the tool, which may be annoying, but this is a good thing. The Milwaukee battery is the best on the market. I would rather have the tool shut down automatically since most people will pressure the tool to finish the job even if it smokes. In the end, my drill avoids damage. t does take a lot to get to that point. Most jobs will not shut down the drill. Even with the shutdown, Milwaukee has won all of the competitions I have seen on youtube.
@Anonymous The number of people who want the "freedom" to abuse the tool and also expect the manufacturer to repair or replace it for free as a result is probably pretty high. I don't blame Milwaukee for implementing this feature as a way to save them money from these kind of warranty claims. And I sure don't mind losing a few seconds for the tool to cool and reset instead of losing a few hours or days while I go get a replacement or wait for something to come back from service or whatever after I abused the tool to ruin.
Excelent video as always. Thank you
Thanks and you are welcome!
Thorough as hell as usual. Well done
Thanks!
Fantastic testing! Smoking, but the app says temp OK. LOL I think the Milwaukee has a built in current sensing circuit. The excessive load is causing too much current to flow, opening the circuit. Releasing the trigger likely resets the internal circuitry. Great job! A++
That makes good sense. Thank you.
I have a Ryobi 1/2" impact that functions in the same manner. Using a battery rated higher than 4.0 ah solved that.
The app only monitors the temp of the circuitry, namely the switching mosfets. They probably weren’t hot to be honest. The heat and smoke appeared to be coming from the hammer and anvil.
I'm guessing I'd send the Milwaukee throught warranty and see if the problem persists. I think it has a defect.
@@lamarzimmermanmennonitefar5269 i'm fairly sure it's a protection feature, to keep you from smoking it out like the dewalt did.
"Sorry you caught me on my phone boss, I was checking the internal temp on my impact" hahahahaha
I watched this as I dropped a duece 💩🚽
Gringo Loco good shit
Man... I'm about to get a new drill and this video rocked!! Thank you for making this! We amateurs appreciate it!!

My friend bought that bauer drill/impact set and was praising it. I needed a new set and was considering it but decided against it and Im so glad I did. I ended up buying the kobalt 24v drill/impact set and couldn't be happier with them, especially for the price
Thanks for the feedback.
I’d love to see a face off between the high torque (1,000 ft lbs +) cordless 1/2” impacts. RIGID, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Snap-On, etc.
I second this. Hard to believe it hasn’t been done yet.
I'm not sure any of those are rated for 1,000 lb/ft. The Ridgid is like 450 and it's a quality piece
Milwaukee 2767 will win every time. Dozens of tests on CZcams already shows that.
@@gtdrummerdude Milwaukee 2767-20 is rated and proven tested at 1400 ft lbs.
@@srvdean3024 I guess I was thinking about the smaller class of 1/2" impact wrenches.
This confirms my belief that Milwaukee is quality.
Thanks for sharing.
I’ve seen Milwaukee out perform a snap on tool
J T that really wouldn’t be apples to apples, but it would still be fun. Hilti is a professional grade tool, Milwaukee is just the best of the prosumer tools. It still might hold its own against hilti though.
Milwaukee holds it's own, but will get it's ass kicked in long term durability by Hilti. They're the only ones that still make true pro level tools though, Milwaukee, dewalt, Makita, are only prosumer/low end professional.
This dispels my belief that Milwaukee is junk. #beliefsadjusted
Excellent review!!
