    Note that (1-x^2)(4-x^2) = (x^2+2)^2 -9x^2. Let t = x^2+2. Then the expression to be simplified, E = [t +{t^2-9x^2}^1/2]^1/2 = [1/2(t+3x)+1/2(t-3x) + √(t+3x) √(t-3x)]^1/2 = 1/√2 [(t+3x) + (t-3x) + 2 √(t+3x) √(t-3x) ]^1/2 = 1/√2 [ √(t+3x) + √(t-3x) ]. So, E = 1/√2 [ √(x^2+3x+2) + √(x^2-3x+2)].
