Makes sense that they would begin to consolidate their operations.
LSW compact sidewall dampens the swaying motion while traveling at high speeds and eliminates power hopping in high-drawbar applications. It also allows for carrying weight at 40 percent lower inflation pressures than a standard competitive tire, reducing soil compaction significantly.
The cost of farming today is tremendous. Unfortunately most people have no idea. I admire you young people who are willing to take the risk. Living in a rural area and knowing many farm families whose children have decided to not continue is heartbreaking. Bless you in your decisions.
We've been using Goodyear terra tyres here in the UK for around the last 20 years now, they cut compaction a lot when doing ground work and when spraying but if the ground is boggy they sure do burn out clutches fast! It takes us about half a day now to swap wheels from standards to low ground pressures doing it ourselves.
In America they use tires......Do they have to use different air when the tires go to the UK as tyres ? Here the tires start life as black.....is a colour change required to go plow in the UK? Asking for a friend ( mate ) ..... joe

Just want to say I love you guys and your channel! 😊 Nice tires, be interesting to see how you all like them over the long run. I was born and raised in south west Nebraska - little town of McCook. Went to work for Firestone right out of high school. After about a year working at Firestone in the shop I took over running the farm service truck. For the next 10 yrs I traveled all over southern Nebraska and northern Kansas changing every kind of farm tire their was. Got to know a lot of farm families - good people. Seeing the service truck and the guys changing the tires on that tractor brings back a lot of memories - of long days and hard work and meeting some really good people. You both take care and I wish you all the best.
I'm sure that by now you know that when looking at the total weight put on each tire while on the scale will be the same regardless of which tire it is. However the total ground pressure (pounds per square inch) will be much less with the large tires since it distributes the weight over a much larger area of tire contact with the ground. I really like watching you two farm. The technology in these "new" machines is amazing. Thank You.

don't quite see how those tires will work with the way you guys farm, but comfort wise they should be somewhat similar to tracks. In Europe this type of tires are normally only used during field preparation (and only in some countries because they make the tractor too wide for what's road legal in some countries, like Germany) and they're run at very low tire pressure to further increase the surface area, not fully inflated like what you got
@@asmrhead1560 which is why they had used that scale to find out the weight distribution at each corner to determine the correct tire pressures for front and back for the best most efficient contact patch with the ground and rolling resistance.
I'm guessing these are just demo tires which will be taken back at the end of the year. And the perfect time of year to start a demo, since all planting and cultivation is done. Also from watching most of Laura's videos, I don't think I've seen Grant doing seed crops, so no male row planting. Technically I think these tires could be used for all but cultivating, unless he uses a pull sprayer and not a self propelled like on Laura's farmland. I'm not sure they will be able to do another McDonald's drive through run with those on though :)

Congratulations on the new/old tractor. Can't wait to see how harvest works since you planted the corn in rows set for the old tractor tire widths how it will cut them without running over the some rows or parts of rows.
A couple thoughts here. This tractor is done with row crop farming with the LSW tires but maybe this would be a good time to get away from cultivating, hilling, etc. Think of the cost savings on fuel alone and the time you could spend working on other revenue producing activities...

I always thought the rowcrop tires looked to small. When we were still farming, we had 2 2470 Case 4WD. We had 24.1 on them, if memory serves me. We didn't use them for between the rows stuff, had smaller tractors for that. they were the horses, the tillage (primarily chiesel plow, 30' disc). They weren't as big as those, but you will notice the difference in the floatation.

Looks awesome and should be excellent for some operations, such as the grain cart, but you mentioned possibly going with those on all your field tractors. As soon as I saw the title of this video, I knew that Cole must have introduced you to Scott Sloan of Titan tires at the Farm Progress show?! LOL! Did he bring pizza? They do make awesome tires! I bought a new set of them for my ATV after watching Cole's video! Flotation tires that really grip too! Now you have a tractor that can easily pull Grant and Cale's 5 ton trucks out of the river bed the next time that they get stuck! Titan needs to make something like these for pivots that get stuck in the mud! Love your enthusiasm over these tires, Laura! :-) Edited to add, I didn't see the video that you made at the Husker Harvest farm show (until now) and met Scott Sloan there as you were so enthused about those BIG tires on that JD tractor!
A very excited Laura, that is always good to see. I am a bit jealous seeing you hug that tire. A question, where will you be using that tractor, will it be only used in open fields? A farmer in the Fens in England told me how he adds water to the air in the tyres to improve traction in soft wet conditions, works with skinny tyres too, and truck tyres.🕊️
Looks great but u have to use them properly ;) Take a look at the tire - airpressure - chart and try to keep the pressure as low as your total weight lets u go. These floatation tires need low pressure to do their magic ... thats what they got designed for. In Europe we use them for planting, slurry/dung spreading, cultivating etc ... on the fields they run pressures as low as 0.6-0.8 bars.

Round here, North Central South Dakota and South Cental North Dakota, many farmers are going the way of those type of tires. Good on ya for putting them on. You won't be disappointed.
Compaction is a huge deal in corn fields. You don't see it much from the ground or in a tractor, but when flying over it's easy to see and follow every single track through those fields since it was plowed last, as the corn is just a little bit shorter when they grow in the tracks. It's most visible when a tractor drives across rows before they're planted or makes a turn, but you can see the tracks following the planted rows too. It's possible to discern ATV and UTV tracks through them as well.

Some of us from the east coast are intrigued with the scale, size and business side of the industry in the "big" agriculture part of our country. My wife and I drove past a "large" farm in South Carolina and I comment that "Laura and Grant would laugh at those pivots" They were three sections, maybe 250 feet total, about 6' tall. I suspect they were bean fields. Anyway it's good to see and learn outside of our own little "boxes".
Those old tires looked, well, old; sun-checked. It was likely a good idea to replace them anyway. It'll be interesting to see how the LSW's work out. The 8355 will be a good tillage/planting tractor now, but not so good for cultivating.

You could crawl in and take a nap in that wheel !! removing Very Tight lug nuts, is now fairly easy with a doubler nut remover. it just douubles or triples your input like you weigh like 110, and you stand on a 1 foot breaker bar and thats 110, but with a doubler its 220 to 250 lbs force. It works going on and off and small enough to fit in the tool box. Very Handy for a farm. Would be great for stuck/ flat tires on the field UMC
I used to work for a company that built those trucks. Not just cranes but cherry pickers too. We built a bunch of trucks for PG&E (California power company) and some others. But the were Altec, not Stellar. We'd get the truck frames (The frame, cab, and engine) and add the tool boxes and equipment for the lift or crane.
Gotta be something towards compaction... since in Nebraska the soil is usually blowing in the air and wind erosion rarely happens.. turning radius has now double... wonder what the price tag was for these? $10,000per tire.
Laura these guys do tires for a living so that's a big difference from what you and Grant do. I'm sure they know all the tricks in changing tires. But I love those flotation tires. We would have a crew come to our golf course to fertilize it and big truck spreaders with those huge tires and they would barely leave and indention in the turf...

SO an 8335R I've seen in on both Lauras and Grants farm but is this a "new to you" tractor or is it a buy from one of your parent's farms? A lot of the broad acre grain farmers run duals on their tractors here in West Oz and pull some pretty wide & impressive seeders & weed sprayers & some even pull double seeders & equipment. I suspect we might see some double ploughs, scarifiers, harrows or what ever, behind your new JD. Your long hard hours have paid off for you Grant & Laura, well done. The weights will be different due to the tire weight and the wheel weight. More rubber and more steel per.

They set the tire pressure of the LSW tires to maximize the ground contact patch and ride comfort.

Planting wouldn't be a problem. There is no way you could cultivate with them once crops are up.

These tires won't be used for row crop. they will be used to cultivate or plant or pull a grain cart.

Those old tires looked, well, old; sun-checked. It was likely a good idea to replace them anyway. It'll be interesting to see how the LSW's work out. The 8355 will be a good tillage/planting tractor now, but not so good for cultivating.

You could crawl in and take a nap in that wheel !! removing Very Tight lug nuts, is now fairly easy with a doubler nut remover. it just douubles or triples your input like you weigh like 110, and you stand on a 1 foot breaker bar and thats 110, but with a doubler its 220 to 250 lbs force. It works going on and off and small enough to fit in the tool box. Very Handy for a farm. Would be great for stuck/ flat tires on the field UMC
I used to work for a company that built those trucks. Not just cranes but cherry pickers too.
We built a bunch of trucks for PG&E (California power company) and some others.
But the were Altec, not Stellar.
We'd get the truck frames (The frame, cab, and engine) and add the tool boxes and equipment for the lift or crane.

Gotta be something towards compaction... since in Nebraska the soil is usually blowing in the air and wind erosion rarely happens.. turning radius has now double... wonder what the price tag was for these? $10,000per tire.
Laura these guys do tires for a living so that's a big difference from what you and Grant do. I'm sure they know all the tricks in changing tires. But I love those flotation tires. We would have a crew come to our golf course to fertilize it and big truck spreaders with those huge tires and they would barely leave and indention in the turf...

Wow there wide tyres alright. A lot of the broad acre grain farmers run duals on their tractors here in West Oz and pull some pretty wide & impressive seeders & weed sprayers & some even pull double seeders & equipment. I suspect we might see some double ploughs, scarifiers, harrows or what ever, behind your new JD. Your long hard hours have paid off for you Grant & Laura, well done.
