When you get a standing O at a tribute concert you know you’ve done something special. That was amazing.

I have to say I am pretty shocked that this woman doesn't even seem to know who K.D. Lang is as she is so famous and also she doesn't seem to know that Roy Orbison wrote and sang the song so many years ago... I was fortunate enough to stand right in front of Roy Orbison while he sang that song. It was at the Alberni Athletics Gym in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island... Let's see, it must have been somewhere around 1962 as I was still in High School at the time. There was no raised stage as it was a Gymnasium, so the crowd was on the same level as the Band and Roy. I was right in front maybe four feet away from him... It was magic! Roy was already pretty famous, but after that he really rose to fame...

K.D. had originally done this song as a duet with Roy Orbison, the originator of the song. (Within the music field, Roy has been nicknamed "The Voice" by his musical peers because his singing voice is just THAT gorgeous.) At the end of the performance here, there's a point where K.D. looks upward, acknowledging Roy up in Heaven.

KD Lang is not a man, maybe you should do the tiniest bit of research before you talk about her. The best is not only Hallelujah at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony at the BC Place Stadium but her best show (many peoples opinion) is a tribute to Lenard and the very best is her "K.D. Lang's Juno Awards in Winnipeg in 2005 Performance on Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah".. it brings most to tears she is certainly a once in a lifetime singer and I have had the pleasure to see her live, I tell you to hear her on CZcams is Nothing like the real thing.. she is and has always been out and proud, she was many time pushed aside due to her being gay at a time that it was hard to make it if you were not a sex symbol, she does all Canadians proud. Not to be rude but at a time where your generation is so careful about genders, I would think you would know Her pro-nouns. 😍 KD Land in this performance shows all of who she is, it is absolutely AMAZING, I was luck enough to see her when she started out, living in the same province as she was from she is an Albertan treasure. 🥰

She has one of the most beautiful voices ever, I mean, ever. Her version of Cohen's Hallelujah at the opening ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics (she's Canadian) will blow you away. I can never get enough of her, what I presume is her biggest hit, Constant Craving. I could go on and on.
Edit: Wrote the above before I got to your comment on "country twang." Her record label started her out as a country singer. Seeing her now, as herself, makes those early songs, with her in frilly country clothes, a bit cringe.

Roy not only made this song famous, he had a number of other classic songs like "Pretty Woman". He was also a member of the supergroup "The Traveling Wilburys" with members like Tom Petty (of "...and the Heartbreakers"), Jeff Lynn (from Electric Light Orchestra), Bob Dylan, and George Harrison (from The Beatles). BTW, all of those groups are a rabbit hole worth going down.
Orbison, sadly, was only in the Wilburys for about six months before his passing. The group tributed the song called "The End of The Line" to him. Orbison sang on the track but wasn't around to be in the video. A rocking chair holding his guitar and a framed photo is shown when he sings.
Mr. Orbison passed on December 6, 1988.

Roy Orbison released Crying in 1961. Roy passed away in December 1988 aged 52. Roy's first hit was Ooby Dooby in 1955, and his final hit You Got It was released one month after his death in January 1989. 22 of his songs placed in the US Billboard Top 40, 6 peaked in the top 5 including 2 No.1 hits.
Don’t sweat it, I thought the same thing when I first saw her. She has an incredible voice and this tribute was very heart felt. You should listen to Roy’s original version as well.

Actually KD was the first female country artist to "come out". And almost lost her career for it. But because her talent was so awesome, and being Canadian, it overshadowed the pettiness of judgement of her sexuality. So let me get this straight....No one with great talent is supposed to be gay or whatever, as long as people get to decide what talent is, but then force the rest of us to listen to what "they" think is talent, which consists of lip syncing to to sexual explicit lyrics, but that is acceptable as long as it pleases the masses that feel they have the right to take away someone else's right to a livelihood,, You know the ones...that show up to church every Sunday, no matter how they are cheating on their wives, or how the women are alcoholics because of it, but these are the people judging others....the hypocrisy completely amazes me.

Let me just comment on Roy Orbison. He has the most unique voice in all of Rock & Roll history. It is beyond beautiful and many of his great songs have been covered. At the end of his career , he joined other legends in the band The Traveling Willburys.. ( Tom Petty - Bob Dylan - Jeff Lynne - George Harrison- Roy Orbison) .. it would be worth your time to discover their great songs.

She had a special mutual love and respect with Roy Orbison. The emotion in this performance is priceless.
kd broke into C&W with that voice like a bright shining star but it turned out her non-traditional gender identity was not a great fit for that scene so she went her own way. Still one of the best voices ever.

Once she changed her look it was all over for the HeeHaw fans. I recall one trio with Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton and her looking like a man, it was too funny.

@@MaddyReactions Their duet is the greatest cover ever with the blending of 2 divine voices - both in the conversation for the greatest male and female voices in the history of all the combined genres under the "pop" label. It is a cover, though Roy is covering himself with the greatest assistance he could find in the Milky Way Galaxy in K.D. The song itself is IMO the greatest pop song ever. I have tried to sing it myself within my much narrower range, but can't get through even the first refrain without getting choked up -- I suppose I've had too many lost loves and loved ones through a long life and am haunted by the greatest songs of lost love and the regrets that go with it.
Her voice is incredible, always has been since I discovered her music in the "torch and twang days" in the late '80s. I saw her twice in concert and just feel gifted to have those memories. It was interesting that you identified her as "he".

k.d. Is a girl not a guy, Canadian treasure. Roy Orbison heard her sing and asked her to do a duet with him of his hit Crying. After his death she was asked to sing Crying as a tribute. You should hear her Hallelujah sung at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

30 years ago nobody knew who she was. She sent a tape to Roy and said, I know you don’t let people do your songs because they can’t do them justice. I hope after you hear me doing Crying, you will give me your permission to do it.
Roy called her and said, I want to record it with you!
Then he called the The JohnnyCarson show and said he wanted to come on and of course they said, YES SIR!
I watched that night as Roy introduced the world to K.D. Lang. They sang the duet and career took off sky high and the next month EVERYONE knew who she was.
