- Encamped and making lubricant comprised of bees wax and tallow (Crisco lard) for Civil War era revolver felt wads and minne balls over the wood stove.
Mixture is about 1 parts bees wax to 1.5 parts tallow (lard)
Project Time: Making felt wads for the.44 cal black powder revolvers. Anyone else make their own or have recommendations?
The scrap felt you tossed into the fire makes excellent fire starters.
Lovely video, picking up my 1860 army soon, and excited to get into the beeswax with it!
Time correct done with felt cloth - I also cut wads from wax boiled cardboard strips. The leftovers are great for fire starting.
Olive oil and beeswax with some wintergreen essential oil and you have Bore Butter. Your formula works very well too. I've used it for patch lube, chamber mouth sealant, stock and metal protectant.
Looks like you were busy. Great can do!
Looks like something I could do at home. Maybe I'll give it a try. Thanx for making the video.
Cool piece of wax right from the bee hive - I haven't see this before
Nice work, fellers ... and fellerettes.
And also I didn’t think you would post the video of me thank you so much I was the boy in orange shorts
making the best use of a old felt hat.
Nice
That’s pretty neat
This is really simple compared to some of the ways I've seen of doing this
Going to try tallow for autobody leading. Cork for wads
very interesting. will that mixture work for round ball patches?
Of course, pork fat has a much lower melting point than tallow, so your wads will be softer, but the lube "runnier" when barrels get hot
LAMB'S TALLOW FROM DIXIE GUN WORKS. Lamb's tallow don't go rancid! Your patches will work but there are easier ways.
Could u waterproof leather with this?
What kind of tallow did you use.
