- The GC8 Rally car rebuild is finished. I managed to get it all together and ready for the 2022 running of Show Me Rally in Missouri.
The Rally car preformed great and we were able to put down some really good times near the end of day 2.

For something that's going to get beat up, the car looks real clean and restored.
It does look pretty good for a rushed garage diy paint job, even after sending it through a Rally.

Awesome to see and some great tips! Just finishing up my roll cage padding with fire suppression going in next. My first rally car for my first rally, and my first time working on a car in general and it's been a solo project the whole time aside from the roll cage welding. Such a fun hobby, but dang is it a money out and time sink
I thought that the shifter might cause an issue being mounted to the transmission tunnel. Definitely looking forward to seeing the rally footage
Yeah I talked to a few guys that have shifter linkage pivots like this and they all run solid mounts, so that should take care of the issue.
Good to see you're incorporating some of you pro knowledge in your own build. Looks like you've got some good attendance numbers at you events, what are the spectator numbers like ? It's dying on it's arse here. We had to cancel an event cause we couldn't get enough volunteers to do road closures.
My son's friend ( Kyle Miller ) was navigating in an ARA event last month... Crashed and burned in a ditch. no real damage.....Looking forward to seeing some stage footage.
Yeah attendance has been pretty good, this event was lower since it was a late super regional event, but the national events have been close to 70-90 competitors at most of them.
There's usually a pretty good bit of spectators but nothing like you would see in other countries. Rally is still pretty far out of the mainstream out here.
That was awesome! That Rear Setup with the solid mounting and bash plate, Massive ideas for what I'm going to do with mine. assuming thats 5mm Alloy plate?
I used 1/4" 5052, so around 6mm, I should have a video out on the skidplates in a couple of weeks

What is the material you used for the rear side skids? The rear suspension took a beating at LSPR. The current plastic skids I have are too rigid and would not move well with the suspension.
It's UHMW, I just have little L angle brackets that bolt to the flap and then get cable tied to the arms in the rear

Hey, quick question: Since rally cars have to comply with two very different sets of regulations (rally regulations and street legality regulations) I really wonder how much of a headache the street legality regulations are in the US (or in your state even)? Especially since you pretty much built your car from scratch more or less. So I wonder: After doing major changes on the car does it loose steet legal status and do you have to check in with authorities to get it approved and returned to street legal status again? Are you allowed to take it for a quick ride on public streets after doing major changes to check if everything is working fine? Just how big of a pain is the burocracy to keep the car street legal for you?
I would really love to know how the situation is in the US in this regard, as I'm from Germany and here street legality is a huge issue and always quite a pain in the butt with even rather minor custom changes on a car.
Anyways, I really enjoy your videos and I'm happy to see you back in action. Can't wait to see some actual rally footage after all the hard work you put in to building that car!
Depending on the State you live in there are different rules and regulations you have to meet to have the car be road legal. I live in one of the best states when it comes to registering and maintaining legality. I don't have any inspections on the vehicle, so the emissions system can be dismantled and it can be highly modified and still be street legal.
Other states it is completely different and you have to maintain most of the factory components to maintain street legal status.

Hey you did really well with the car. But just a little tip on the skidplate. I made kevlar protection Wall on te edge left and right. So its not possible that Stone 🪨 jumps up in the engine bay. It would close up the complete engine. Good luck 🤞
Yeah we run the same thing at work with a carbon inner skin that comes up on the sides. I may incorporate something out of plastic or thinner alloy in the future.
