- Marshall Holman went from being in the ESPN announce booth with Mike Durbin one week to tournament leader the next. On this show he was attempting to win his first PBA title in a LONG time against another star of the 1980s, Wayne Webb. Bryan Goebel takes Marshall Holman's place on the color commentary. Great match, as it's Marshall Holman in rare form. Part 1 of 2.
Loved watching this back then.my wife and I bowled for years..still luv watching the old repeats.glad theres so many
Man, I would NOT mess with that mullet.
Seems like the light hit is what got the best pin action at those lanes that day
Wayne Webb says "business up front, party in the rear"
I bowled a pro am on Long Island about 10 years ago, was paired with Wayne Webb. I was surprised, he wasn't very nice to anyone, wasn't friendly, it was quite obvious he didn't want to be there...
A lot of pro golfers are the same way.
Marshall and Wayne met three times before in a championship match.
March, 1981, Overland Park, Kansas. Holman won, 181-168.
February, 1985, Venice, Florida. Holman won, 233-205.
March, 1985, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Webb won, 198-192.
As for the comment about Webb not being friendly in the pro am, it should be noted that a lot of pros do not like bowling in the pro ams; not sure why. I knew a couple of touring pros and during a conversation they indicated that a lot of pros would smoke weed before a pro am so that they would not be bored out of their minds. I kept score in a pro am at Winser Locks lanes in Ct. in the 70s and two of the pro bowlers who were bowling on adjacent lanes were very much stoned.
I noticed the same thing, NYDanno85. You'd think ESPN would have had that right as the U.S. Open is one of bowling's premier events. I believe mrbowling300 has that match on here.
The Kansas City stat ESPN gave is wrong - Holman and Webb faced off in the 1985 U.S. Open. I don't know who has it, but the video is up here somewhere.
Wow, Ron Jeremy is a good bowler.
In the documentary, "A League of Ordinary Gentleman" there is footage of Wayne rolling with his 1980s form (letting the ball hang, bouncing it off his thigh, etc). I wonder why he switched in the 90s...and why he switched back...
Well, this comment was only 12 years ago...but he said in an interview earlier on this telecast that he changed his form - to be smoother - because of neck problems he experienced.
3:56: Marshall and Wayne met after 1981. How about you watch the 1985 U.S. Open???
hair advantage clearly goes to Wayne.
I miss Marshall not bowling as much anymore
I don't think he does any bowling at all just commentary.
@syntonik
I think that was 1990.
I have always wondered,did anyone ever tell you that mullet was a good choice
Correct tournament, but it was in 1990.

Wolf12395: Yeah, he needs a haircut.

This was The Bald Ego’s last win on the big tour. It was his first win in eight years.
Were mullets still “in” in 1996?
You know, I think that's a reason the PBA Tour has gone down in popularity. There really aren't any bad boy personalities or characters on tour anymore. They need more of them and people will watch.
@ dunner228. I would bet a dollar to a dime that the ball Wayne is using is a Columbia Piranha.
Marshall holman scares me.... lol
@dunner228
Well, they're all red...LOL!!!
the only webb i know is spud web :p
And he threw a gutterball too!
With his old game, Webb had way too much hand with the newer equipment
By cracky.
sean rash was trying somewat to fill the void then he went soft and down the drain just like chris barnes
I hate the bold player
