Nutribullet DIY Fix - Don't Throw It Away

  • Hello and welcome back to The Handy Outdoorsman!
    Today I’m tackling a high priority task, high priority because it was handed down from “The Mrs.“ Lol.
    She uses a Nutribullet daily and lately it has become difficult to operate in that one of the 3 activator tabs in the base gets stuck to the point where the blade and cup won’t fit into it properly and that prevents effective chopping/pureeing/liquifying of the ingredients.
    It’s under warranty and I spoke with a Nutribullet Rep who was aware of this type of problem and gave me a solution that should fix it but didn’t seem very thorough. I decided to try my hand and go a little further. Do note that your warranty will be voided if you attempt any DIY.
    But follow along with me (especially if you don’t have a warranty) and you may save yourself a few dollars. It’s a simple yet little-known fix and more importantly, “The Mrs.” is happy.
    Thanks for watching.
    Until the next video, take care & God Bless.

    Thank you for posting this! Our Nutribullet stopped working and was ready to buy a new one - didn't even occur to me to look at those levers. FYI - Didn't even have to pour the water to solve the problem - I started by taking a small knife with a sharp edge and carefully cleaned out dried food/buildup from each of the edges of each lever. Took about 10 minutes max. WORKS PERFECTLY now! In my case it was an easy hack but wouldn't have thought of it without your video.

    Thanks for the video. Mine wasn’t due to the stickiness but following along to this, I did discover one of the screws holding on the brackets for the press down pieces had cracked out of the plastic so it wasn’t pressed flush enough for the white rod thing to press the latch to turn it on. I got a longer screw and drilled it into the plastic a little further and now it works! Hope it holds for a while.

    Thanks for the detailed video mate. The plastic assembly that holds the spring of that strip which is supposed to click - one of the 'legs' had snapped on my 13 month old nutribullet (just one month out of warranty). So ended up connecting the red wires bypassing the switch - there was at least one activator making/breaking the connection. So it works now no worries.

      The plastic "legs" on one of my switches broke too (where the switch screws in to the assembly). Clearly the plasic used is not strong enough to handle that torque. I didn't try your workaround yet, but if what I did doesn't hold, I will. Thanks to both of you.

    • @happybuddha13
      @happybuddha13 Před 8 měsíci

      Referred to your video again as today, the blender stopped working yet again. Found that the one activator that was making/breaking the connection had its legs snapped too. So ended up disconnecting the wires from the circuit breaker and joined them together, so its a direct connection. The only downside is, the blender will turn on/off at the wall now instead of the jars weight.

    Thank you man! In my case, one of the little plastic pieces that held the tabs/spring/switches to the body was loose because a piece of the body itself broke. Thanks to your video, I opened it, cleaned the devilish gunk that definitely forced the failure, and reseat the switch in the bit where the dummy tab was. Made the spring shorter on the dummy tab to release tension since now it's held by just one screw. Soldered a bit of extra cable between the switches ( the live one), greased everything, put it back, and saved $100. And the missus is proud of me. Nice friday afternoon project.

Lots of gunk inside. Once I gave it a thorough cleaning I discovered one of the switches had a broken plastic threaded part below the switch. Ahh! This is so satisfying, (like popping a zit---ewww!). I have an older Nutribullet (at least 10 years old?) I have been able to keep it working b/c I could always free up the sticky motor triggers, but because the inner liner of the base is see-through, I could also watch as all sorts of guck worked its way down and behind...and then grew moldy and grosser and grosser....with absolutely no way to take it apart and clean it, rrrgh! The moldy gunk cannot get near the food you are preparing, but I hated that it was so gross to look at and uncleanable.
    I have to say, I love the power of this blender, but it has a hundred and one nooks and crannies that are stupidly hard to clean. The seal around the blades has to be taken out to clean or it gets horrid and smells awful, but to get it out, you need to use a pointy knife tip which inevitably nicks the rubber. If you have never pulled that ring out, be scared! And surely that sludge intermingles with the food contents, if only a teeny bit.
    I do a lot of toothpick cleaning of the machine which is obnoxious.
    For ten years I have wanted to take the motor base apart and "have-at-it", but couldn't figure out how to disassemble the unit. In fact, even following this tutorial, I had my doubts it came apart the same way (because there are a few parts that have changed slightly from the ones you see in this video)....Trying to get the inner cylinder off was almost impossible....I would never have known it WAS possible! I pried with a screwdriver and finally with the machine upside down on the floor and grasping the silver ring with the edges of my feet and pulling, pulling, PULLING it finally cracked free. I think it was glued on by years of hidden gunk!
    What amazing gratification! All the inner parts except the motor were covered in gunk. What an awful design. I'm over the moon knowing I can get this apart to clean when I want to now!!! One word of warning to others with an older model: Those 3 white plastic trigger pieces are extremely fragile. There is a little factory seam that broke just washing it gently under running water with fingertips. Then the next one broke even though I was watching out this time. I am currently trying to superglue them, on a piece of parchment paper with an eraser on top to hold it flat while the glue sets---yikes. The design of these triggers now looks much sturdier and improved in your video.
    On a side note, I also find the food container nearly impossible to unscrew after blending. The threads, though very clean, have grown gritty. I have to wear rubber gloves and brace the cup against my inner knee to unscrew. The container always leaks a bit, even though it is so tight you cannot open it! (So I put a towel over my knee....I have dedicated rubber gloves and towel for all this rigamarole!)
    Anyway, you are my hero, and I feel like a hero getting this thing apart! Hopefully these triggers will glue up okay so I can put it back together again :)

      If it is smoking replace it. Smoke is an indication there is something wrong with the motor. Pretty sure that can’t be fixed.

    So, I was all excited to fix my Nutribullet, took it apart, and cleaned up all the gunk. Got it all put back together and now it has no power at all. Any ideas of what I could have done wrong? It had power before, it just didn't spin...now, nothing.

    Hello, thanks for the video. The activator tabs on my nutribullet do still go up & down freely, however, it won't turn on, unless I push it down. If I push the cup down, it works, but as soon as I let the cup go, it will stop. Any thoughts on what could be wrong with it? Kind regards & Thanks for your time.

    • @thehandyoutdoorsman9014
      @thehandyoutdoorsman9014  Před 2 lety

      Perhaps I am not understanding your question. The machine is not suppose to come on unless you are pressing down on the cup, that is how it is suppose to works.

    • @RememberToLove
      @RememberToLove Před 2 lety

      @@thehandyoutdoorsman9014 To clarify, usually I can put the nutribullet cup on, and it will turn on (at which point I don't need to be pushing the cup down). Then when I am satisfied with the blending time, I twist it off to stop it. But recently, I put it on, it starts, but then stops the moment I let go of the cup. So now I need to push down on the cup & hold it down til it is finished blending.

    Help!.... this morning i heard a terrible grinding when using my bullet. Been looking for video to help, you seem to be the one to ask. I immediately stopped and there where pieces of medal. One piece looked like half a ring. Looking and looking, it seemed to come from the little, "whole", that's on one side. I dont know how this could have happened. I call myself talking good care of it. Keeping it clean etc. I'm afraid to use it since i don't see this can be replaced. Might you be able to tell me something?

    Great step by step video! Question: Do you know if the Nutra Bullet RX is built the same way! I sure hope so , because I made a BIG BOO BOO while making a hot dipping sauce. It had been awhile since I had used it...I forgot that I am supposed to use the vented lid when making hot stuff in it. Well, as you probably guessed, pressure built up and exited straight down and through the base! I turned it off immediately and cleaned what I could, but I know its gonna be a mess inside. I'm 2 months past extended warranty, of course. HA! I don't want to run it til I know its cleaned out...don't want to put any stress on the motor.
    I'll check back for your answer. THANK YOU!🤗

      I am not sure if they are the same. My guess is they are, but have different size motors. Personally I would take it apart in the same manner I took mine apart. You have nothing to loose. As you said you really don’t wNt to run the motor if there is foreign matter all over it. Good luck! 👍

      This might be where using a bit of warm water to dissolve the residue will come in handy. Since your applying it between the two casings it wont be directly on the motor. Good Luck!

    Thank you for this. I took apart my NB to clean and needed to assemble it back. Are you able to tell me, when you screw the plastic tabs onto the spring (start at 12:15) do you leave some room so you can jiggle the tabs (and feel the spring) or tight all the way?

    Just the video I needed. This is my second Nutribullet and I've had really good experience using this monster. Now it's kaput! :-( Bugged down after a year of usage and I was thinking of throwing away mine because the activators (the 3 white plastics you took out) have been totally chipped and there was no way I could turn it on. I felt it was a waste of money for only a year of use. After viewing this video, it gave me hope. I can fix it but my question for anyone who has the slightest idea is where can I buy spare activators? I am desperate at this point. Can anyone give me more hope? Super thanks!!!
