Nah, not really. His shit just don't work that great. (JK I have no clue. I do know he used to fuck with the sharpness tests and do them wrong though) Though to be fair, if he would've dropped it from the air instead of having it roll like that, It probably would've actually cut it in half. That's the way you're supposed to do it, seen it done on forged in fire plenty of times (that's a tv show), and none of those blades were as sharp as a razor blade. The reason the rolling method didn't work is probably due to the friction of the folder.
@@Kratos-eg7ezay a fellow forged in fire watcher, yeah him rolling that orange definitely didn't generate even remotely enough force to go through the knife
@@ImpostorzimDevices that supposedly make sharpening a knife easier will often actually dull the knife if you don’t use them correctly. In the long run it’s better to just learn how to sharpen knives the “hard” way rather than getting a gimicky device to make it easier, you’ll only damage your blade in the long run.
@mistertwister2000 I'm not trying to come at you by any means.. just wanted to share my experience and opinion. I bought a worksharp knife sharpener that's got a stand, a spot that holds the knife in place, and all that, and it works on a type of pivoting lever system. It actually works really well. I used it a few times on bigger knives, and when I used it on a smaller knife, the knife was too small to place in that holder, so I had to free hand it. The way the sharpener works actually helped me overall. I learned what angle to keep the knife at and developed a kind of system that works perfectly fine for me. I get my knives sharp enough to shave with. I want to get some real sharpening stones now, but I would say those gimmicky devices are great for if you're just starting out and learning, and once you learn how to do it, then you can move up.
I hate being a hater but the technique you use to sharpen knifes isn't at all good, and your "cut" technique, knifes are supposed to be used in a saw like motion, using the whole blade, and when sharpening you want to do single strokes at a time, so the blades sharpness stays consistent along the whole knife. Great content tho.
the second cut wasnt that much deeper than the first cut lol, you used your hand to make it go down the rest of the way the second time but not the first time.
A sharpener. Now this is an art that I thought dead with the advent of sharpening machinery. Glad to see that's not the case. Great work with that blade!
To slice that orange into 2 pieces, you need more force in pushing the orange or try elevating it higher so that it creates more force upon falling and the knife can cut through it clean. Your knife should also be in place and not move.
By the way, a technique and old blacksmith in my hometown told me was, when sharpening a blade even with the new technology now to do it, you do it in one way only, don't go back and forth, it's either back or forth but repeat it until you get the desired sharpness
Chef here, initial sharpness is the least important factor when buying a knife. It's a scam. You can sharpen almost anything to a razors edge. How long does it hold its edge? How hard is the steel? Carbon content? Flex? Rust resistance? Grip? Ergonomics? These are the real questions you should want answered. This particular knife is made of a stainless steel with a hardness of 57. It is pretty standard for an average quality kitchen knife. Not suitable for a professional kitchen as you would be sharpening it every 15 minutes but should be fine for a home cook. Unless you cook alot. Pretty easy to sharpen though. Good knife for beginners to practice cutting and sharpening. The shape isnt my favorite but shape is more of a subjective thing based on your technique.
Is it just me or is anytime someone starts sharpening their knife it feels like. The best way to explain it is I know someone out there has also scraped their nails on something that feels very uncomfortable like a chalkboard or something that feels the best way to clean it the sensation feels like a shock
