    Dont really need the aluminum intake manifold as long as you keep boost lower (under 12psi). Also, the supercharged guys can just run a gutted supercharger with a block off plate ZZP sells. Finally, People should understand and know that this is just the hard parts... you'll still need a fuel system, (injectors & pump) fuel pump rewiring kit ( Stock fuel pump wiring will not support an aggressive fuel pump), 3" exhaust, and a tune with HP Tuners. Trust me, it gets very expensive very quickly 😂 oh, R.I.P 4T65e 😂

      Due to the age of these engines and most still have the original series 2 plastic intake with tons of heat & cool down cycles making the intake weak and prone to blowing up or massive vacuum leaks it worth upgrading to series 3 upper with throttle body adapter. making the series 3 intake the only option for turbo setups.

On turbo 3800's, the least complicated way to prevent this is to block the 2 passages (vent path thru PCV valve, and fresh air draw ahead of throttle blade) and add a breather on the valve cover oil cap to vent crankcase pressure. More elaborate solutions exist with extra components, but this is the easiest surefire method to avoid vacuum issues and engine seal damage over time.

      @joselozoya8584 Před 7 měsíci +2

      20psi stock transmission believe it or not I blew the motor first. Ran lean during the top end of a WOT run and chipped number #5. Doing the full rebuild on the block almost done waiting on gaskets. As for the transmission no issues. Never did a dig in it no burn outs I don't WOT till about 50mph+ still holding. If it goes out I'm not guna play around with rebuilding it all F23 5 speed swap it. It's a 5 speed manual from a Pontiac Sunfire seen a couple of videos on it. Definitely looks like the way to go

    • @gaspoweredgarage
      @gaspoweredgarage  Před 7 měsíci

      Thats surprising about your transmission. Usually you hear so many horror stories once a turbo is installed on a 3800 the transmission blows. Seems like the 5 speed is what most peoples solution is instead going with the northstar transmission once you hit a certain horsepower level.

    • @joselozoya8584
      @joselozoya8584 Před 7 měsíci +1

      Oh for sure the Northstar transmission is doable but a lot more fabrication involved the F23 is a direct match. Sure some custom axles and a little bit of wiring but overall seems to be a stronger choice. And at the end of the day it is a manual so worst case scenario your looking at a clutch replacement not a entire transmission.

  • @bobvance-
    @bobvance- Před 10 hodinami

    I'd have to look into it more but my guess is that if you want to do a mild build for under 500 whp you should just do a top swap.
    If you want to do more horsepower, my advice is to go with a L67 (the supercharged variant of the 3.8 series 2) and boost the shit out of it. 20 PSI should hold up pretty well. Get a garret supercharger or a b&w. The lower compression of the L67 will make more boost safely.
    As for the intake manifold, people have said to use a gutted out supercharger and fab a plate. Never heard of this before but sounds like a good option, especially if you already have the L67.
    If you want to do some machine work you can mill 0.100" off of the piston and fit some LS gt2 cams in there and use shorter gaskets. That's pretty extreme though and have only heard of ZZP doing it.

    The Only Downside Is The Transmission. But Maybe The Platform Will Get Popular Again And The Aftermarket Support For The 4T65E Will Come Back. Last I Checked The 4T65E Has Fell Off Substantially. Not Very Many Of Us Left Riding Around With The Torsen LSD In Thier 4T65E Or 1" Drive Chains lol.

    • @gaspoweredgarage
      @gaspoweredgarage  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I agree that the downside of the performances aspect for the 3800/ls4 platform is the transmission (4t65e). Which is starting to make the hard to find parts cost to much compared the the cars value like a 1"chain or torsen lsd,etc. Which is why ive seen more people switch or gravitate to the rear wheel drive cars from general motor like the g8,gto,camaros, chevy ss,etc due to the cost and availability of things.
