Very good, please a video about Anton Poddyachy

:D
Love how Marthyn keeps so down to earth and focussed on the analysis (which is really good and in depth). All the other reactions are just "omg, wow, etc"
one of the you tube comments on that vid really agitated me, saying nils wasnt tight in the video, specifically his feet. i wish people were a little more forgiving with extreme metal drummers in live performances. its difficult to play crazy fast and tight under poor sleeping, eating and traveling conditions. under hot lights and sometimes without proper kickback sound from the sound monitors. ive seen this guy live and he is a MONSTER.
I agree with you for the most part, but I've really been getting into intermittent fasting(well, have been awhile, getting into extended fasting now) and am pretty adapted to burning fat for energy so I don't really have carbs until late in the day, and limit them when I do most days. Even if into keto, it's good to get moderate-high carbs once a week or so for metabolic flexibility for switching between fuels. I work two jobs, mornings is unloading packages weighing up to 150lbs(with help if needed) during peak holiday season, there was 6 semi trailers this morning half were partial but still, a lot for 2-3 guys. Starting almost 2 hours earlier now(5:50am), so between that and a late job(ending 9-10pm depending on) been getting like 3-5 hours of sleep this week, and eating 1-2 meals a day, but that actually helps as long as you eat right. Intermittent fasting and being adapted to burning fat for energy helps so much for lack of sleep and being overworked it's crazy(I'm into nofap too which really helps lol), I still have good mental energy even late into the day with my 2nd job, your comment just made me think of that. I've been going one meal, but I'm pretty beat from this week so I'm going 2 for now.
I have no experience on drums, but I play guitar and have worked up to speed like War Ensemble by Slayer to a metronome, it's NOT easy I know that. I know a lot of it can be more mental than the physical aspect of playing, I'm sure my performance at work has suffered slightly, but in the context of fast metal even small differences will show so it's kinda apples to oranges.
Im not a great drummer by any means, but i do play the instrument and to my ear it seems fine so i would think any untrained ear would never hear a couple notes slightly misstimed from his millions of notes
I actually like these minor flaws during high speed drumming because it's something else than a highly edited drum take with 100% sampled sounds on an overproduced album. Honestly if I see another drummer tapping the snare drum while a high powered rim-shot is being played back by the trigger I'm gonna lose my shit. This guy on the other hand hits really hard!
i think it is half-Satan on DRUMS.
Dude ya and tje knes who say that cant even play..drummers like myself play at that level and its not easy at all ..how u feel does make a hige difference because hella energy is obviously required and precision takes alot of it cuz if your not feelong so great from loss of sleep and those conditions u mentioned come in to play majorly but anyway good comment all very true
His precision is something unreal... Playing in a band that all the songs are fast and keeping all the energy in every song equal it's just for a few drummer's. Great analysis
thank you!
Nils plays so fast that the camera can hardly register him switching from side to side of the set
Dude, that fill at 12:05!
yea it was insane
btw love your content
I don't even play drums but I really enjoy watching these videos!! Very informative!! You're an amazing drummer as well!
thank you
Word. His work in Belphegor is fuckin unreal.
1:01 The face everyone makes when blast beats start.
Jovanovic is one of the few humble drummers ... He analyze every drummer with patience and super focus on their job
Nils is probably one of the greatest metal drummers of all time. Im from the same town as him and hearing/see him play with his old band Aeon were always amazing.
I absolutely agree! His playing in DF is unbelievable, but going back watching old Aeon clips shows that he was just as amazing with them too. Ridiculously precise and hard hitting. His playing in Aeon sort of reminds me of the Soreption drummer.
C4rnal063 wait you mean aeon the death metal band?
@@dylanforsythe6598 Yes that's correct
Ive been looking for years for an Aeon shirt...
Yeah!!! I was waiting for this video!! What a beast of a drummer!! The power in those fills!!! Amazing break down of the performance Marthyn, that was really insightful.
thank you... yeah- his power at tom fills is unmatched!
me too
@@drumtechniqueacademy Thank you for this video! I was waiting for it!
@@LenkaAryaGrowler you're welcome!
Excellent breakdown of style. Subscribed!!!
Wow, I have stumbled upon this video while random watching other reactions of drummers and drum teachers. Yet, I am blown away by the effort you put in your reaction. The analysis, subtitles, etc... well done, hopefully you will get the recognition you deserve. Good luck!
Another huge advantage of that hihat position that not alot of drummers think about is that it gets the hat away from the snare mic, allowing the snare to sound farrrr better in a recording
His speed and accuracy remind me of a German MG42 machine gun. Fast and precise and will rip your face off in seconds!!🤯
Absolutely love these analysis videos.. I searched high and low for exactly what you have presented here.. Thank you!
Next - Frost with 1349!
Who also plays with Satyricon
Formally of Emperor
and gorgoroth (destroyer album)
Or Dominator with 1349 ;)
Best reaction I’ve seen. Thank you for focusing and explaining the intricacies and basic technical breakdowns.
Hellhmmer from MayheM or Frost Satyricon or Horgh from Immortal
Those 3 and Dominator are really the peak and the pride of extreme metal drumming
I would add Gene Hoglan from across the Atlantic, otherwise I completely agree
Richard Christy and Trym too
@@ishzarkklyon9590 Nick Barker?
Want a reaction video on Trey Williams from dying fetus
Hell yeah, I second this. Trey is a fuckin beast! Kevin was great in the early days, but Trey has really come into his own, especially on Wrong One to Fuck With.
thanks for making these videos Marthyn! its really interesting how you analyze the drummer and breakdown the techniques being used. we can see you really enjoying watching these badass drummers. I'm really looking forward in watching your next videos.
Thanks Marthyn for this amazing video!!
I really like these video's, I can learn a lot from what you say, and it is just really nice to hear you talk so passionate and you obviously know your stuff.
Keep it up.
thx alot!!!!
Great video and analysis!
I loved that hip muscle observation, it was very interesting and made me think of my own posture when playing
One of my favorite drummers, thank you!
Thanks Marthyn for listening to my recommendation! i hoped you would do "secrets of the blacks arts" but this one kills too! glad you used secrets as one example
I swear I'm finding every single CZcamsr I didn't expect commenting on this video.
👍🤘💀🤘🍻🇲🇽
I just saw Dark Funeral live 5 days ago and the only thing I regret (with no disrespect to their current drummer) is Dominator is not with them anymore. This guy is a f...ckin' monster! He has speed, precision and endurance, all of these amazing. The best drummer I have ever seen!
This videos are awesome Marthyn, the way you analyze every single detail is very useful \m/
Love your channel Marthyn. Keep it up.
Keep going with these videos dude, it's helping me a lot
Will do!
Any man named Dominator is going to be a beast on drums. Best drummer I have ever seen!!
Thanks for your work on these videos! I'm a guitar player, but I've always wanted to learn drums, as well, but never had a place I could have a kit to practice. Now that I finally do, and plan to buy an electronic kit to start, I'm so grateful for such detailed, informative looks at some of my favorite drummers. Thanks so much! Also, I'd love to see your take on Darkside from MGLA playing "Exercises in Futility V" live (amazing drummer, and that is the best live video of him to date, IMO)...
You have a real gift for teaching man. I wish you nothing but continued success. 🍻
Thank you so much man for doing this.
Nice breakdown of his playing. Many things we as drummers do without even noticing that you have pointed out. I clicked the subscribe button.
Thank you
I love your breakdown and analysis. Keep it up. You rule!!!!!!! Thanks.
thank you!
Thankiu sir... Full of positive analysis.... Great video by the way
mario duplantier would be a cool drummer to talk about
He is a very interesting drummer
hell yas
What i love about your videos is you have e played in the upper echelons of the metal. It's great hearing your insights about fellow drummers at the top tier and how you appreciate the fuck out of the art and their skill aswell as knowing the art form inside out. Much respect
Hi Marthyn here from Argentia.great channel!!!great idea !!keep going!!you are a great drummer and teacher!!
thank you!
Whoa Nelly!!😍 That is blistering. Small wonder why Nils is my favorite drummer! Hahaa! Holeee shoot!🤘
Best drum reaction guy. You actually analyze and inform not just say oh wow that's awesome lol
react to George Kollias - Shall Rise Shall Be Dead
Love your breakdowns 😎
I *LOVE* these videos. Haven't played the drums since I was in high school, these make me want to start back up!
Do it 💪
Very nice Marthyn, keep up with the good work and thanks for helping us understand that beast :D
It’s refreshing to hear an instructor say he hasn’t heard drum fills like that at that speed before and I’ve always said Nils is the best drummer I’ve ever heard… no wonder odium sounded so amazing!
great analysis...always insightful
Really enjoy these videos
thank you! it was a lot of fun to talk about nil's drumming!
Great video and technique analysis. Nils truly is a machine. We did a gig with my band Embracing here in Umeå, and Nils was there playing with his older band Aeon, it was great to see his excellent grind technique. Plenty of practise behind that drumming. Truly a beast in the metal genre!
Thank you! It was very interesting. Good information for thinking.
Man this video series idea is perfect great idea and job Marthyn!
Thank you
Marthyn Jovanovic looking forward to your single stroke mastery program I tried purchasing but it kept declining! I’ll try again tonight

man this is cool. i didnt realize you did a breakdown of this video. its so damn fast its cool to learn what he was doing
I really enjoy watching these even though i'm keyboard player and haven't ever really played drums at all :D I would love to see reaction to Kai Hahto for example wintersun's battle against time. Keep doing these, it's very interesting to see drumming from good drummer's perspective.
Kai is a monster isn't he :D
Hahto is great but I would rather like to see his work with Rotten Sound analysed as it seems that in that band he had the most freedom to create his own way of playing.
Great example of playing fast but still having insane groove. Fast drummers can often feel stiff
very good video series! keep up the good work!
will do!
Thanks for sharing this extreme knowledge.
Saw him once live with Dark Funeral. Still blown away by this inhuman performance. Great Content as always!
Would love to see you reacting to David McGraw :D
Whoo! Another vote for David!
I really think David hits the toms just as harder, and just as fast.
Well Done! Very enjoyable!
Very effective reaction! I learned alot from this.
You're a beast... took all the video to decide what to say but indeed you're a beast sir.
That was AWESOME!
Awesome teardown from the teacher
This reminds me of programing impossible to play midi drums on my computer... but this freak can actually play it. Hats off to you sir!
Great video! I used to play the piano, I've never played drums, but I love watching these kind of videos about the techniques and theory of other instruments. Nils is a monster, my favourite extreme metal drummer. An analysis of Frost (his 1349 or older Satyricon stuff) or Trym (Emperor) would be cool. Keep up te good work! subscribed
Thank you...will do!
Love ur insight on the drums bro and dark funeral is sick!!!!
Amazing choice Marthyn, and I loved the particular video you picked in order to make this analysis. Loved it! As for a suggestion, I believe Chason Westmoreland would be an amazing option.
Excellent disection, great video!
Thank you!
Excellent work, I really enjoy your videos, very didactic.
Was hoping you would pick Nils, awesome video. He's one of my favorites.
Great video!
Your reactions are so interesting: you make us understand that there is not one good way to play fast, there are as much solutions as there are different fast drum players. Each technique and configuration has its own pros and cons. We got to work, try and choose.
And Nils is a beast!!!
Wieder ein geiles video, das mit den kommentaren is echt a klasse soch, moch bloß weiter meister ;)
Non drummer here, how in the heck does he remember all of what hes doing, im really blown away.
Great upload btw.
How do you remember every letter in a song's lyrics?
I am not a drummer, but I like to watch videos of them.
I liked the way you analyze the videos
Great video, i dont even drum but love watching these!
:-) great!
Marthyn, you are a great drummer and teacher, please keep up the work, we in the drum community salute you. As for a recommendation, you and David Diepold both mentioned in one of your interview videos of how you both admire Dave McGraw from Cattle Decapitation. He has several great videos to choose from and it would make a great teaching moment for us all. Thanks again, you and Belphagor rock! Lastly, maybe a break down one of your own videos from Belphagor?
Amazing drummer! Can’t wait to see who is next!
do you want a specific drummer to be featured in one of the next videos?
Kai Hahto
Kai Hahto would be awesome! czcams.com/video/qU4Wb1bp3Ng/video.html (chose this one because im sure you dont want to react to a 13 minute song)
Yes someone else mentioned kai hahto! I’d recommend this rotten sound video of him
Really liked the part about him preparing everyone for the next subdivision with the break on the same 8th note triplets as the next part. I'm a self taught drummer without any musical theory, and i noticed sometimes i do that by instinct. Good videos Marthyn, keep em coming.
A drummer reaction video where the reactor actually knows what he’s talking about!!
Hi Marthyn, what do you think about 'Incubus' from Inquisition?
Or maybe Pete Webber from Havok.
The third video I watched analysing this DF video and you actually explained things to me (being a non drummer, but a drum programmer) that might actually help me, rather than just pulling faces and going 'Ugh, I don't know what to say... it's crazy'. Thank you, I have subscribed to your channel!
thank you for your vids💪👏🤘
I was at this show, if I’m not mistaken. It was brutal assault 2016. Amazing! Good analysis!
Hey, man, great content as always! I’d love to see you react to Emil Wiksten back when he was playing in Aeon, as well as any of Matthew Paulazzo’s videos. Cheers!
another great video....thks Marthyn ImI
I love your vids.
Fantastic, unique content.
thank you!
Hi Marthyn, love the videos! I would suggest doing a breakdown video of Lee Stanton of Thy Art is Murder!
awesome work with belphegor and this channel. agreed, no one hits that fast, hard and precise on the tom rolls! also the kick speed and hi-hat fills are INSANE!
Cool Marthyn Jovanovic. By the way great job. I was just curious about it.Yeah I Will find a drummer, thank you.
This stuff is fascinating!!! Cheers.
True that and thx alot for watching my videos...
Very interesting thank you
Great work Marthyn. I would love to see Simon Schilling, Alan Cassidy and Ken Bedene. All of them in analysis and interview :)
Good analysis Marthyn, I liked how you pointed out his hi-hat setup. This is why I plan on having a 2nd pair between my ride and 2nd rack tom, so I have the open handed option and less range of motion between it and the ride. Basically just blasting hats lol.
Keep these coming!! I love these videos. I'd like to see some Rings of Saturn or And Hell Followed With or Delusions of Grandeur or Acrania.
Dear Marthyn!
Thank you for a great CZcams channel; I've watched nearly every single one of your uploads (and I rarely do anything else on this site than listen to music). All of your videos are very educational, and I really like your approach and your personality.
I would love to hear you analyse the drumming of Lee Harrison, Monstrosity, especially one of the drum videos from the recording of the band's second album, "Millennium". It would be extremely interesting to hear you talk about, e.g., the technique behind the (fast one-handed) 'cymbal catch' and Harrison's setup. Cheers, and thank you very much in advance!
Thank you very much for the great feedback. Can you post the yt url of the video you want? Thx alot!
Sure!

I realise now the quality might not be good enough ... Maybe this medley from the recording sessions of "In Dark Purity" is more suitable:
czcams.com/video/5UhCqNzQhO8/video.html
Whether it's possible or not, given the video quality, I remain a fan and regular follower of your channel. Thanks a lot, Marthyn! :)
That triplet fill in 7:33 starts with 16th note single roll ending with the 8th note triplet roll. Really nice vid man, subbed!
His blast beats at 10:59 are ridiculous! He's doubling up the kick so that his feet are playing the same thing that his hands are and it still sounds nearly perfect. Dude is a fucking monster.
Francesco Paoli from Fleshgod Apocalypse please!
When I discovered he moved on guitar and vocals I was amazed how multi-instrumental he is
He was the original frontman of FA until 2010 and he was also the frontman of Hour of Penance for a while. That man is a fucking beast!
@@Shyrest Yeah, he went from guitar/vocals to drums and back again. He had only been playing drums for about 2 years when he recorded and played live with Fleshgod. Very impressive.
I don't know how the hell I ended up on this video, I don't play drums or listen to Dark Funeral, but my gosh this was interesting. Subscribed!
