South Africa's Energy Crisis & Load Shedding Explained: The Eskom Death Spiral

  • Despite having the most industrialised economy on the African continent, South Africa has been experiencing power outages, locally called "load shedding", for years, and in 2020 things only seem to be getting worse.
    Subscribe to our channel! bit.ly/2VQWaKK
In this video, Politically Aweh discovers that the outages are only the tip of the iceberg. A far more grave and permanent danger is threatening the very existence of the world's 11th largest power utility, South Africa's energy giant Eskom. Check out our report on the situation featuring an exclusive interview with energy & sustainability expert Lauren Hermanus.

Great video. Will add, one of the biggest issues our state owned entities have, is the lack of accountability. "I am responsible, but not accountable". Eskom is no different, nobody has been held accountable for poor decisions, fraud or corruption in Eskom. When heads start rolling into prison, we then have a good starting point of actually finding proper solutions.

A new South African designed wind turbine that is at least 4x more powerful than a conventional design can be purchased from Smart Farming in the Western Cape.
Full production is starting this month.
It's a small compact and powerful plug in solution that bolts on to a roof top etc.
It synchronises with the grid and in strong winds can make a significant contribution to the grid, reversing the meter when low energy requirement's exist within the household.
The turbine produced nearly 2000 watts during testing in a strong wind from a 50 cm diameter blade.
It's silent and safe as well as completely South African made.

The Turbine was designed and developed by Turbines4all 6 years ago but has only recently secured investment.
The final product is been tooled up for mass production.
The inventer himself wishes to remain anonymous.
The turbine will be in kit form and is a plug in solution that synchronises to any existing system be it on or off grid.
It can withstand extreme weather and was thoroughly tested over a period of 4 years.

We have 2 substations in our town alone than had burned out panels due to Eskom not maintaining their equipment. Eish. If you lookup the word useless, the word Eskom is in brackets next to it.
