That soundtrack is legendary. Zimmer used church organs to give that feeling of religious awe. It's no coincidence that the "first handshake" scene looks like Michelangelo's Creation of Adam. I think it represents that mankind is its own god/savior, the way the future fifth-dimensional humans put the wormhole right within their reach and made the tesseract for Cooper to communicate with the past. And.. something about Mann representing human flaws/sin, and his name literally being Mann. This movie is definitely a lot to chew on.

Then after leaving the water planet, when Brand is telling Coop that they cannot go backward in time, she says something like “The only thing that can travel across a dimension like time is gravity.” But you get too sucked into the pace of the movie to process those hints.

      1. That nothing in the film violate the laws of physics or our knowledge of the universe.
      2. That anything speculative in the movie arises from real science.

I honestly think Coop watching the messages from his family after their 28 years stay on Bay watch. This is quite possibly one of the saddest things I've ever watched in a film. Specifically learning that his newborn Jesse died at the same time he tells us Grandpa died. And if course, the line that sets me off crying like a firehose. " I never made one of these when you were still responding because I was mad at you for leaving.............but TODAYS MY BIRTHDAY"....boom that line CRUSHES me every time.
That's up there with John coffee getting electrocuted in Green Mile.
Edit: I had to throw in this unpopular opinion. Matt Damon was a douche and a coward for claiming his planet was habitable so somebody would come save him. I will not argue that point. But hes an idiot for going about it the way he did. It would have been much safer, though less comfortable for everybody. If he just fessed up right away and said "I was afraid. I didn't want to die alone on this planet and I lied." What are they gonna do? Execute him?
The guy has proven his bravery by going in the 1st place, And we have heard throughout the whole movie that he is probably the most brilliant person that they sent into space. They legitimately need him. He would be an insane help in getting to the next planet. And if luck is on his side and that planet is habitable and they can save everybody. I bet anything they would let his cowardice slide and never even mention it again because he would still have a gigantic hand in saving the world.
Instead he wrecked his robot and killed a dude....... What an asshole

Dr. Mann was definitely not thinking straight. He had lost his reason, first from the terror and despair of dying alone and then from the shame of being busted for fabricating his report on the planet. He was essentially driven mad.
He clearly stated that he didn't expect Cooper and Brand to take him with them after discovering his lie. There was no way that they would ever trust him again. Again, not thinking straight, he decided to try to complete the mission all alone.

the papers are about the engine they used to simulate the black hole not about physics researches. Double Negative decided to develope a specific engine to simulate a real black hole (the Double Negative Gravitational Renderer), Kip Thorne and Walter Burke Institute for Theoretical Physics were their consultant, helping them with well known physics.
" There are no new astrophysical insights in this accretion-disk section of the paper, but disk novices may find it pedagogically interesting, and movie buffs may find its discussions of Interstellar interesting."
Nobody never did something like that before for a simple reason, nobody, neither the richest laboratory, has millions of dollars to spend for an image with an irrelevant scientific purpose.
Anyway this is an intersting approach to unify very expensive blockbusters, science and popular science. Hollywood could do great things in spreading a scientific culture (and publishing what you did, instead of keep it secret, is a great idea in this sense), Interstellar and Double Negative did it, a lot of others didn't.

No matter how many times I've seen it, this one brings the feels - and it's pretty good in the science as films go. Thanks for your genuine, REAL reactions. To this and all your films. Great choice on this one.

Chris Nolan is a masterful filmmaker. His whole filmography is a wild ride and nearly every one of them has high critical acclaim. I'd highly recommend The Prestige, Memento, Tenet and Dunkirk.

@@shaunk6925 I agree. Insomnia is a great movie too. However it's more of a remake than his original idea. That's why it gets so overlooked compared to his other works that include his signature mindfuck/nolanesque storytelling.

When Nolan commissioned the soundtrack to Hans Zimmer he said him only one thing about the film "it is a film about a father who is forced to stay away from his children for a long time for work reasons".
Nolan brothers (Christopher - the director - and Jonathan - the screenwriter) had just lost their father before the production and Christopher watching his children grow up so fast thought how much faster children change in comparison to an adult: today your child is born and tomorrow he sit next to you in a pub drinking a beer and watching the match with you like he is your peer.
Moreover Christopher likes to play with time in his movie, because Cinema is the only thing that can do this.
This is basically the main concept of the movie.
But behind this there is a giant, big, accurate world building made with the consulting of Kip Thorne (Nobel prize for Physics, one of the men who discovered the gravitational waves and man who theorized the existence of traversable wormholes, that are called Morris-Thorne Wormhole) and a lot of other exo-scientists. This movie is like a bignami of what we know and what we don't in physics, is a homage to the humanity in all its facets (genius, idiocy, rationality, sentimentality, science, antiscience, madness etc...), it's a homage to what humanity can do if only we want to do and - last but not least - it's a advice to protect our planet before it's late because we can't travel like they do.
It's intersting how this movie tell us "things will go bad soon if we don't do something to change, something like using the science" and in Tenet Nolan show us what happen when all the things already went bad.

So I´ve watched a ton of reactions and the movie itself many times but since I am apparently not that smart I never quite understood Dr. Branns poem "do not go gentle into that good night". He is obviously referring to a black hole! "that good night" and "the dying of the light". Its the freaking black hole and I never figured it out until now :D. But thanks to you noticing that Romely was talking about Gargantua as a gentle singularity I finally connected the dots.

The pictures of Earth and Saturn are real photographs, with color added later by a complex system that analyzes light outside of our eye’s bandwidth of visible light and applies it after. The high resolution pictures of Saturn are some of the most stunning ever taken by an object made by humanity.
If you have a more than novice understanding of physics, astrophysics, and anthropology this movie comes together on a whole different level.
Even if you don’t, this is a truly timeless piece of art we were able to live through. This will translate through many many generations.
Thank you for reacting, as it’s our way of reliving every moment we can as if we were first time watchers, but through your eyes. Incredible.
