'Master Of Confusion' and 'Empire Of The Undead' are the first two new studio songs by Gamma Ray to be released after the successful studio album "To The Metal!" which brought Gamma Ray at the highest positions in the charts worldwide.
"We have been away for quite some time", declared guitarist and founding member Kai Hansen. "We have released what we consider a very beautiful live product, 'Live -- Skeletons and Majesties', but we felt it was time to release some new music by the Rayz...
With its 60 minutes of pure and raw Gamma Ray, "Master Of Confusion" is a great way to wait for the new album, scheduled for the end of 2013. Coinciding with the start of the "Hellish Rock, Part II" tour, "Master of Confusion" will be released on March 15th, 2013 via earMUSIC.
Gamma Ray always takes its music and the relationship with their fans very seriously, and the band wanted this release to be priced as a mid price mini-album.
Kai & co. are not afraid to celebrate their peculiarity with humour and irony.
Reading the lyrics of the song 'Master Of Confusion' not too many clarifications are necessary...
Gamma Ray are indeed the masters of confusion, a trait all the fans and also the music industry had no option than to accept and appreciate. They bring chaos to other people's lives, they miss important deadlines, they reschedule the release of the desperately awaited new long player, but they never miss a show, they never let a fan down, and in a world of calculated and career-driven rock stars, they are among the few remaining honest true heavy metal heroes.
In addition to the brand new studio song, "Master Of Confusion" features a second new studio track: 'Empire Of The Undead', showing the heavier side of the band, with an explosion of energy and pure Gamma Ray sound at its best.
The release is not free from tasty rarities: a brand new studio cover versions of British Glam Rock band Sweet ('Lost Angels' - "the reason I have joined a band many years ago", stated Hansen) and a hidden treasure of NWOBHM ('Death Or Glory' by Holocaust).
"Master Of Confusion" is rounded off with six live versions ('The Spirit,' 'Wings Of Destiny,' 'Farewell,' 'Gamma Ray,' 'Time To Break Free' and 'Insurrection' recorded in Bochum) that were already included on the Blu-ray "Live -- Skeletons and Majesties" but were not featured on the CD release (which included the show recorded in Pratteln).

This song is a masterpiece in many ways. The song title really reflects on lyrics and instrumental part.
I love Henjo's facial expressions as he plays his solo. There's a man who genuinely loves what he does.
It's like 'I want out' had a baby with 'Send me a sign!'
It's basically just a rehashed I Want Out.

Founder of Power Metal!
That is false! Piet Sielck and Michael Weikath also played a major role in the birth of power metal. 3 songs on Walls Of Jericho (Metal Invaders, Phantoms Of Death, and Gorgar) were co-written by Piet Sielck, back in the days when Helloween were called Second Hell. Also, a fair few songs on the debut EP and album featured writing from Michael Weikath. Even Kai himself does not accept that he single-handedly created the genre. Piet and Michael deserve huge credit also for the roles they played in the genre's inception. Any true fan of power metal and Helloween knows that Kai was part of a creative team that birthed power metal, he didn't do it on his own!
Also, don't forget to mention Blind Guardian! They influenced a lot of bands, including the "new" wave of power metal bands like Sabaton ;)

Weikath was also the brain behind Keeper II. He composed most of the songs on that album(apart from 3 I think), and it is often considered one of the best power metal albums of all time. In my humble opinion, Eagle Fly Free is also one of the best power metal songs ever composed, easily among top 5.
Also ,you must look more into the past ,because Judas Priest is band that bring double bass drumming ,double harmonic solos,like Helloween did. Listen to Exciter and Let Us Pray/Call For Priest ,probably one of the first speed/power metal songs. :)
Gamma Ray are the Reigning Kings of power metal. This is going to be another classic right here, Fueled by the Mastermind Kai Hansen.

let me tell you I went to see them live many times. Obviously before the concert they always rush for interviews and preparing the gig, but after the show they are always so kind and available for fans! I'm a very big fan of him and had the chance to have long talks with him after every gig, He escaped from me before the concert in many occasions, but never after a gig. Kai is the best with fans! He gives you even a hug if you ask him :D

I found the songwriting in this song actually pretty clever: by making the tune close to other previously released by themselves, some people could be confused about what song is, and this fits prefectly with the lyrical theme
