True story: Last Thursday I was sitting in my hotel room after visiting my mother in the intensive care unit where she has stayed for 3 weeks now (no, it is a different thing). On Thursday, as now I was tired (having a mother on the edge of instant multiple organ failure is an energy swamp). So there I sat browsing the internet aimlessly, as Twitter started going crazy. So I found this video of ABBA. When I grew up in the 70s with my young parents, they did not have the cash to go out -busy paying mortgages on their new house and starting up a small family. So they invited friends over during the weekends. And they had parties at home. Such that ABBA was my childhood sound of my parents having a good time with friends.
So - there I was in this hotel room I am going back to tomorrow. Laughing. With tears flowing. Hearing music that to me meant I was perfectly safe as a child.
On Friday morning (I think - days are blurry right now) I entered my mother's room where she is hooked up to every bit of electronic ever made (including a calculator it seems). And I said, "somebody released something new for you as a gift last night". And I put on this song on her "pad".
It took a few seconds before a smile broke out and she said "this is an old gift - this is ABBA". And I said, "No, this is brand new ABBA, mum". And as the chorus took off I could see her start bobbing as much as all the cables and sensors she is connected to allowed her. Smiling. For the first time in more than two weeks.
I do not care about objective quality. I needed this song. My mum needed that song. And yes - in my world, this song is written for my mother - as I have faith in her at this moment in time. I have faith that she can live on for a few more years to allow her grandchildren to really get to know her and remember her for the absolutely awesome human being that she has been for more than 7 decades.
Thanks, ladies. Now I am ready to put myself into the car tomorrow and go back to the hotel room and be my mother's biggest fan again.

Like someone past away? Well, listen to the words... in a sense it did. They are in the NOW combined with THEN. They changed over the years, like we all do.Listen to the words. You both are a million miles away from what Abba is
I don't know how you experience Abba at your age. You haven't lived the late 70's and 80's with Abba's music. You didn't had the "new" released song "I have a dream" playing in the background at the diner table at Xmas. Everyone kept quiet when they were on TV in a music video or in a program. We were concentrated because THEY were in front of our eyes, and we listened in awe to the song. It didn't matter which one, as long it was Abba's.
Many of us of the old days cried hearing that song "Don't shut me down" and we haven't stop crying, so hard to understand. To hear their harmonies and voices back together, it's like a time machine... Each one has his own story why that is. Mine I think is because it took me back to my childhood where my mom was still alive, where my beloved cat was still alive, where I really could enjoy music and danced in the street with others on Abba's music and other without shame. Me, a boy. Where life was simpler and we played outside, we were not slaves of technology. We were free in a sense. We had a phone with a wire but were free, now they have a phone without a wire and they are not free. We played outside, we didn't needed a chatroom to meet someone virtually, instead we met each other in person, in the flesh. Yes, much have changed. With Abba here again for just one full record... to experience that before I go to sleep one day and join my mom and cat... in one word... heavenly.

Thanks ladies for the ABBA. So I'm an old fan. I heard this song first and got very nostalgic. Frida has always done this type of song well. But like you I was hoping for something more uptempo. I lowered my expectations a bit and put on the next new one "Don't Shut Me Down". You really should react to that too. It's very uptempo and disco flavoured. They released the songs in that order on purpose. This one asking "do we still have it in us?" and "Don't Shut Me Down" delivering. Pretty clever really. I'm thinking a lot of thought has been put into the upcoming album and show. Just like they always did. Don't know if you know but the two songwriters in the group have spent the time after ABBA writing successful musical theatre.

Think you got the wrong vibe tbh. This is not a funeral song, it's about the band members who were two couples (married) back in the 70s/80s they got divorced and the band never split they just stopped making music from about 1982. They went into seclusion away from the limelight, and this comeback is them saying after 40 years despite the fact that they split up they are still cool with each other. Their music is timeless, it is a smash hit in 2021 just as it would have been in the 70s. A lot of modern-day music artists can't even come close to this quality. 15m+ views on youtube in less than a week is a testament to this. I expect ABBA to dominate the music charts for the rest of the year. I have faith in you is a spine-tingler/goosebumps type of song because no matter what your age you can identify personally with the lyrics.

So, after some investigation, this is what this song is about. From Wikipedia: The track has been described as "an ode to their friendship and to the bonds that have matured and survived despite divorce and heartbreak".

ABBA are truly an iconic band and all their songs are brilliant. I don’t think anybody has tried to do a rendition of their songs because apparently they are not easy to sing even though they make it sound easy. They really are brilliant musicians. Thank you for your lovely reaction and it was nice to see your sister

Half way through, you got the point of the song... showing their vulnerability and questioning if they can still do it. It's not Dancing Queen; it's 45 years later! I don't think you deserve all of the criticisms you got here; you're fun and funny, but a wee bit of research beforehand would serve you well. This song is a grower... once you get the context of it and if you know a bit about the group, you'll want to listen time and again. Keep up the nice reviews. :)
