- The Visual Paranormal team along with special guests sportscaster Tony Bruno and Miss Robin Austin spend a night investigating this famous haunt. Throughout the night very personal connections are made by Visual Paranormal team members who encounter the spirit of their deceased uncle who was a resident of Pennhurst State School and Hospital.This special investigation also includes members of the Pennhurst Paranormal Association Timothy Smith, Nick Carlson and medium Mara Ciervo. The team is also joined by associate VPI investigator and Ghost Raps Radio co-host Dawn DeVito and guest investigator Kimberly Foreman. Throughout the night the team experiences intelligent responses to direct questions captured on digital recorders and the camera's audio making this a very powerful investigation. The Visual Paranormal Investigations Team includes: Mary Jo Galante, Lisa Anhalt, Tina Fleming, Nick Wold, Amanda Flynn, Stephanie Wold and Steve Galante.

It's amazing that the 'ghosts' don't get violently pissed that what was their place of torment has turned into a disneyland for people with funny little boxes with lights on them...
My grandma was the music teacher there from 1970 to 1987 when it closed. We use to go and see here. But I was about 10 years old. Also know a few that also worked there. So sad though..... pray for those beautiful souls ♥️

Good investigation video. I like the longer length, and this video was of outstanding quality. You guys are professional, as well as respectful to the spirits.
I think the voice around the 13:00 mark could be saying "Help me" rather than "Hey Billy". I've seen other investigation videos of Pennhurst where spirits called for help - actually in a very similar voice. You can hear it in fourman04's Pennhurst video, for example.

+Paranormal Haunting Activity Hi, I agree. Although I feel there were too many people present on this investigation the results of the evp session with the family members was very moving. All in all I think it is a very compelling investigation even though we took a lot of heat for it from some viewers. Ghost hunting myself every October I love the respect you guys have here its kind of personal since I have high functioning Autism called aspergers so I could have ended up in one of these places but thank God I wasn't but hurt for those who were but became soldiers in a way so people today like me wouldn't have to be in a place like this May God Bless you and protect you on your ghost hunting travels

I don't understand how they allowed people to be treated like this...I mean, maybe they were out if money and didn't have enough staff, but still, no excuses can be made on how and why such horrible treatments and tortures went on for such a long time...I'm still wondering...I watched videos of old footages from various mental institutions from the past. I don't understand why the investigator taunted the spirit after it replied help...me.. Just one provocation after all those EVP responses was unnecessary. Why would he do that type of question when he & all of the team KNOW WHAT TYPE of conditions these poor souls lived in?!...

He asks the questions but the responses aren't audible, meaning by ear. They can only hear the responses on the recorder, after all of the questions are asked. That's why they call it EVP. The "E" stands for "Electronic" as in the electronic recorder.
Otherwise, I'm sure he wouldn't have kept asking questions with an attitude.

I honestly have come to believe that being given voice such as in the case of John Kelly allows the spirit to experience closure. I've also come to believe that they are not trapped and in many cases can come and go through a portal. If tragic events can create a ripple in the fabric of our reality creating a portal then Pennhurst fits that description. This is just my theory and to be honest that's all it is, a theory.
Grumpy Hermit Im sure the spirits understand one time question. Pause, for EVP response.Then move on to the next question. You knw, treat them as humanly as possible. That was my concern. Why would anyone living respond to an overly repeated question? Again, and again. I'd not want to answer & walk away, respectively & respectfully.
I have had a few experiences with Spirits. I have also been to Mediums and others that have told me things about myself that no one else ever knew, etc... So I know that these things are real and that they do happen. After my experiences I decided to do some research on spirits, etc... There are many books out there on the subjects but the only book that really gave me concrete answers was the Bible. The Bible states that for those who die and have chosen Christ as their savior then from the moment they die it says, " To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." It also warns us not to try to contact the dead. It states that the spirits that we contact are all evil and from Satan. The Demons can be very cunning and they are knowledgeable about our pasts, etc...They can be very sweet to lure you in and can pretend to be a tiny baby or anything else that they want you to believe. But, make no mistake, they are all evil and right from the pit of hell. They are also able to haunt and mentally torture you. Any "good spirit" is long gone and is with the Lord. If you're ever in a situation where you feel afraid of a spirit.....Immediately plead the blood of Jesus Christ. Order, in the name of Jesus, the Demon to leave you alone and state that you believe in Jesus Christ and that Jesus will protect you. I've seen a "sweet" spirit all of a sudden change and say Fuck your Jesus!!! So, whatever you do, be careful and stay safe.

Father, Son and Holy Ghost/Spirit, if its true that the spirit's of people are Demons or the devil why mention one inside the house of the lord ?!. +Visual Paranormal Investigations Hi Nell, The Bible, Church, Priest, Pastor or whoever refer to the Holy Spirit. HOLY because it is the Spirit of God. God's Spirit is the only holy spirit. The Bible states that when we make a decision to except Christ into our lives and hearts, then we have received the gift of salvation and it's then that God's holy spirit dwells in our hearts and lives. It's because of the spirit coming into our lives that we decide that we no longer want to live for self but instead to please God. Maybe we decide not to cheat on our taxes anymore, or maybe not. Okay, better example, maybe we try harder to be kind to our family and strangers. When you choose Christ it's like a work in progress. The Holy spirit sort of acts like a conscience. I agree with you 100% about the way people try to sensationalize Demon possession. It is true that people can become tormented and Demons can enter them. It can be very dangerous. Sometimes the person will end up killing themselves or others because they're so tormented. Godly men that are not afraid are the ones that meet with the person and they all pray and order the Demon to release the person from the bondage they have them in. They remind the Demon that he has no power over a child of God, etc.. The movies make it seem so violent and crazy. The victim acts like their having seizures, they scream and fight, etc... I've talked to people that have participated in them and the only thing that happens quite often is that the person usually cries or sobs because they feel so relieved when the Demon leaves. By the way, Nell, your video's are the first, of this kind, that I've ever watched. You do a great job and I thoroughly enjoy them. Whoever is behind the lens does a super job too. I understand completely. It was just a thought. If I lived closer, I'd volunteer to do it for you. I've had experience reducing noise in audio when I recorded music back when I was in a band. Its simple once you get the hang of it. I'd sample a silent spot in the audio (which really had noise and hiss) then save that sample as a noise filter, then highlight the entire clip, and subtract that sample from the clip. You've got great videos and I enjoy watching them! Very professional!

Excellent production quality. Very likable and professional people. The evp's are very clear and relevant !
My only suggestion would be - in addition to a live playback of the evp's, include a cleaned-up version also (usb audio transfer to computer and run thru a program like Audacity). Doing the live playback is important to disprove tampering, however, the tiny speakers on the voice recorders are hard to hear clearly when being re-recorded by the video camera.

Honestly I don't know. Not many do longer format videos. We do them because they don't feel complete without the background history and the entire investigation. Where we are able to capture evidence and where we aren't it gives a better picture of the level of activity at a location. That's what I think anyway.

If the buildings were to be renovated and opened as a hospital, or another care center, won't the activities get more malevolent and more frequent?
Hi Staminist2010, I really believe that if the building were renovated the activity within Pennhurst would increase. I don't know if it would be necessarily malevolent because from what I experienced at Pennhurst the spirits there seemed more kindly to the living than the living were to them. And if I'm right - entities that share our timeline/dimension have their own free will and some mastered how to contact us, touch us, just like we are trying with EVPs, cameras, EMF pumps, spirit boxes, etc.

I've been on two separate private ghost hunts in the mayflower. it's 105 dollars from 9pm to 3am. the first time wasn't real good. the second time it was a small group like 8 including 2 ghost hunters. you have to see it first hand . the second time was when a lot of crazy shit happend. my friend set a grid up and we seen a full figure shadow walk right through. we were in kings room in the basement when that happend. got a lot of evp recordings.

I really don't like to fool with the audio for two reasons ..First - I don't know how and second my 'enhancement" consists of just making the e.v.p.'s louder. I've tried to get an audio guy on the team but no luck...I do all the review and all the editing it's getting to be too much for one person. I do most of the shooting as well. It's tough. I don't really know the audio programs very well and wouldn't know how to do what you are suggesting- Trust me I've got my hands full already. LOL

from the research i have done, a lot of them were put into other institutions, and got the help they needed. A lot of them went on to get jobs, and live out full and happy lives.

Hello, I'm going to pennhurst on the 28th of this month and staying the night. Do you guys have any advice for me? I know not to provoke. This isn't my first experience with spirits I had two, one at eastern penitentiary back in 2006 and then one at a hotel in phoenixville. I just don't want them following me home. Thank you. I can't imagine what they went through so sad.
Amanda Dehaven Hi Amanda be respectful and remember these people suffered enough in life. I didn’t agree with the guest from Pennhurst Paranormal and the way he spoke to the spirit he called “King”. I believe if you speak to the spirits as people (which they are) they will respond in kind. Keep you imagination at bay but allow yourself to be open to the experience. Have no expectations and accept whatever responses you may receive. I think spirits somehow know your intentions. If you are there honestly out of concern and not to amuse yourself ( like some of those who were there with us on the night we investigated) you’ll have a much better experience. - Steve VPI

From googling it's been made into a tourist attraction and they charge you to enter the Pennhurst ghost house as it's now called by the new owners.
I knew they charged for private investigations and I knew they did a haunted house at Halloween time- in the administration building. As for charging for investigations ALL locations charge - for example Rolling Hills Asylum wants over a thousand dollars for a private night investigation. I can understand a reasonable charge for upkeep and insurance but a thousand dollars is out of the question. Pennhurst was reasonable in price and I didn't know about the new owners calling it the a "Ghost House".

Visual Paranormal Investigations will not be returning to Pennhurst. If the place has been reduced to nothing more than a "spook show" I see no point. At the time we investigated Pennhurst we had two team members whose uncle was a resident of Pennhurst. I think you guys need to say what you have to say and wait for a minute, to give the spirits a chance to talk in the recorder before you say anything else, because when they speak you keep asking them question on top of their answers. So i think that is why you don't understand them, give them a chance to talk.
Genuine question...why do people assume ghosts are more likely to come out at night? I mean, if spirits are retracing their footsteps or reliving out some historic event, did they all stay up at stupid hours in the night? They can’t all be insomniacs?

We do not fake, fudge or "create" evidence.While we may occasionally make mistakes at times they are honest misinterpretations of some of the messages we capture through the spirit box. To record the spirit box onto video we have its volume boosted making it hard to understand (most of the time) in the moment. Naturally you are free to believe what we present is real or not. i notice that a lot of spirit responses are 'f... you'. any thots on that? not wanting to be disturbed or some more evil connection? too many questions from too many people. interviewing spirits should be more quiet, respectful, and direct. everyone wants to get their digs in. i have issue with too many artificial devices. any chance of using a deep trance medium involved? (the late hans holzer employed this method and advised investigators to use this method) why are they challenging these poor spirits into different behaviours and aggressions?? that big guy made it personal and i find that very unprofessional. IMHO.
Maybe because the big fat fuck "Nick" is being a condescending asshole to the spirits. As if the people there weren't through enough. Hi Omegaeyes, I agree. Personally I don't believe in "evil" spirits. Nasty, yes but evil as in demonic, no. I tend to think there are angry spirits but rather than provoking them I think it's best to attempt to find out what is making them react the way they do. It is better, in my opinion to try to give them a voice to express themselves. ~ Steve VPI

Let me echo the thoughts of others in these comments. You do project a very thoughtful and professional manner in your investigations. And I like the longer form, as well. However, lose the medium. All the credibility you bring to your work is undermined by these people. They are little better than the folks who write the Horoscopes in the newspaper. A big turn-off for me.
If you'll notice on rare occasions we use mediums. In this case the medium was connected to Pennhurst and seemed to produce results. I am willing to give anything a try to gather information about the afterlife. If something doesn't work I have no problem showing that too. I also think there are some individuals that do have a special ability to connect with spirits. I personally do not have this gift. I am as sensitive as a toilet seat. Thanks for you comment. in this day n age if ppl are going to do this they need to splurge... out of all the devices this should be the main one to work flawlessly. all in all I liked the show though! very cool
Poison Candy The recorders used are quite expensive the are Pandora recorders by Panasonic and are prized by investigators for pick up much lower frequencies than more modern recorders. I use PCM recorders as well which cost over 600.00 those are used for foley work and they are good be too clean and filtered. They also don't pick up what the Pandora recorders pick up. In fact they were discontinued and cost over 1000.00 now. We don't have these the Pennhurst people used their recorders for this investigation.

The medium lady is soo fake...
She was a medium connected to the Pennhurst Paranormal Society and basically lead the e.v.p. session. I think she was sincere but the point of the segment really wasn't her as a medium it was the evp session to connect with John Kelly. The voices captured were very comforting to the older who remembered visiting John when she was a child. ~ Steve VPI

To be honest your evidence don't seem legitimate because it's barely deconstructed and analyzed. Just before 13:00 there is no voice that says "Hey Billy", at all. That was just one of few things that make me discredit your evidences.
