I am new to laser engravers and watched dozens of videos to learn how to use my new D1 pro 10w. Your videos have been far more informative and useful than all of them. Thank you
This is OUTSTANDING…. As a new user of a recently acquired D1 Pro having an explanation for the various menu options is critical…. and you nailed it! I also watched your video on engraving on tapered cylinders and was able to have most of my questions answered. I’ve subscribed to your channel and look forward to continuing to acquire necessary knowledge to enjoy this new hobby.
I reverted to XCS after playing with Lightburn for 6 hours. Any software at my age is a challenge but I have to say your tuturial was both refreshing and constructive. I hope, like you stated the team at Xtool have watched and listened. Thank you Sir !
You are very welcome. Lightburn is a great program for sure so I would suggest maybe another look at it when you are more comfortable but XCS isn’t too bad either for a proprietary program.
Half the challenge of any software is being aware of what it can do. This video is great at quickly touching many capabilities and will certainly be a go-to reference in the future on how to do things. Thanks so much for being so helpful without droning on in too many details that make one lose interest
Thank you for editing in the zooms whoever edited this! Made it so much easier to follow along with for someone with bad vision who watches content on phones/tablets. My eyes aren’t straining. Seriously. Thanks. ❤
You are very welcome! I thought I may have been too heavy handed with it but I know when there is a lot going on in the screen it helps to zoom in a little bit at times.
@@BusterBeagle3D When it seemed important, you zoomed in just enough. You didnt over do it either. Nothing is perfect In editing. But this was a great job. The zooms don’t matter so much for desktop or tv watchers but for us mobile guys they are life savers.
For a electronically challenged person like me, this was awesome. This is the 3rd tutorial I've watched or tried to watch. The others went through them so fast like I was already familiar with everything. You really took the time to explain and I thank you. Will refer back to this often I'm sure 😊
Thank you for this comprehensive video! I just bought the S1 and I am new to the whole laser world. I was looking into it a few years ago, but couldn't swallow the cost.
Great tutorial. Best I've watched of half a dozen. I'm using a 40W D1 Pro, and XCS has changed some since the beta -- though still no absolute coordinates button -- but it's still super useful. Thanks!
Thank you!!! I got mine two days ago and barely started using it today. I was having issues with cutting a circle with text in the middle. It was overlapping and couldn’t figure out how to unite them. I will try again tomorrow
It would be great if they had a centering button on the software which would bring the laser to absolute center as opposed to just the top left corner.
Well, finally info on XCS. I've got the D1 (not Pro) and as time has gone on, it worked fine with LightBurn. Then came the upgrades, and now LightBurn will not respond to the power settings. It burns very hot regardless of the settings. So, needless to say XCS is all I've got. It operates beautifully with Xtool's software, so the machine is not a issue. However, upgrades to firmware, etc....LightBurn just doesn't work. Xtool said on their site that sometimes LightBurn and the D1 WON"T work and it's an anomaly and they are not responsible. So, at any rate, I'm glad you have this video, it's very helpful and hope no one runs into this "anomaly" doesn't happen to them.
thank you for you information. very helpful. not sure I understand the absolute X Y but I will watch again see if I can get my pea size brain to understand. thanks again
I'm sure you will get it. Essentially the whole machine has a coordinate system where the X goes left to right and the Y goes back to front. The (0,0) position of the system is at the HOME position in the back left corner. So if you wanted to burn at (x200, y200) that means the laser goes right 200mm (X position) and forward 200mm (Y position). That way if you had a grid burned onto a spoil board you would be able place something to engrave at that location and know exactly where the work is going to engrave. Hope the cleared it up a little bit and not just confused you more.
Buster...........hello again....firstly, thank you so much for this tutorial, I love it. A couple of questions, if I may...........1. Why does the image look jagged (even on straight lines!) when I use the outline feature? 2. Why won't some images load into Creative Space? 3. Is there a way of saving an image, so that the entire image could be scaled, instead of the individual elements to it? Sorry to bombard you, but I would really appreciate your excellent insight into this. Thank you again, Sir!

Wow! You have made this 69 year old fella very happy. A very, very good explanation of Laserbox, I have learned so much from your presentation. I have struggled for 3 years with my Co2 K40 laser and Inkscape to the point where I was about to give up. My K40 died on me and I bought the 10W D1. This is a hobby for me and if I make some pocket money along the way then that's cool. Thanks Bob! Welcome to the channel. Just to be clear this is XTool Creative Space and not Laserbox Basic. I know they look the same but have slightly different features.
I created my own image of a pickleball in Creative space by making individual circle cuts. However, the laser is cutting out the perimeter circle first, instead of the smaller inner circles. How do get the laser to make the exterior cut last?
Can you tell me as to what the setting on the interval setting, it should be to eliminate the horizontal lines showing up in the FILL portion of the burn
Thank you for the great video! Would you happen to know, if within Creative Space, there is a setting for the framing speed. On smaller objects, the framing process moves so fast it's hard to tell exactly where it's framing. I haven't been able to find any setting that affects that speed. We are using the Xtool D1 10w. Thank you!
I'm not sure if you change the MOVE LASER speed in the top left corner of the preview screen if that also changes the framing speed. You can try it and see what it does. I don't know of any other way to adjust that.

Great video How do you get a power speed test. Also tire a picture to a negative. In the case where you are burning a picture onto two layer painted tile
awesome video! thanks so much for sharing your insight. just got the files from your Etsy shop for this grid, am working with the D1 Pro 20W & I am having trouble with the limit switches with your file, goes across and down fine but when it gets to the bottom and goes back across it says its hitting a limit, but the laser module can physically move over about half a cm still. turned off limit switches & ran it anyways to see what it would do and it did jumbled the text in the bottom left corner a little bit that says "D1 Pro 20W" (two letters overlapped), but otherwise the grid seems in tact and okay with all the numbers and such.. any ideas on what may be triggering limit?
The limit switches do not allow you to reach the full extent of the advertised workable area on the D1 Pro. That is why there is that "READ ME FIRST" text file in the zip folder. It basically goes over turning off the limit switches and the laser crosshairs to be able to take full advantage of the the machine area and properly burn the grid.
Thank you for the video! I am experiencing a weird with SVG files that I need a CUT, SCORE, and ENGRAVE at the same time. The success rate of project like that is so low that I have been wasting material like crazy. The issue was the engraving portion of the project seems to be shifting position but not the cut and score. And I think the problem started with the latest firmware update. Do you encounter the same issue?
I got the extended D1 Pro and have problems setting up the Absolute coordinate page. I got the machine set on extended, but when I place the picture in it (a 90mm x 80mm - X100, Y100) it tells me "element is placed out of processing area".
Thank you for this tutorial, I learned a lot! I do have a question if you have the time... I have purchased done SVGs for a layered project. All the layers load at once, but is there some way I can select just one layer so I can cut them one by one? Thanks so much!
You're welcome. I don't think there is a way to tell it just tell XSC to burn a layer. You can click on all of the other layers and turn off the OUTPUT switch right above the Power percentage and the others will not burn but that might be the closest way to achieve what you are looing for.
Do you have a tutorial on making rubber stamps. Can't get the image to invert, so the image is present when you use stamp, When run program, the image itself is cut not the surrounding mzterial.
I just got an xtool s1 pro. when framing it outlines an area completely different than the area i am marking. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
I was trying to do the cutting board in the projects section. I want to change the names and dates but I can't find a way to edit the project. Any tips?
in my program its not letting me go to framing when i click start its telling me the element is placed out of processing area i dont know what to do. do you have any ideas what i need to do
Your video on the XCS software was a great help - nicely done and easy to watch. Thank you for taking the time to share it with us. I want to put text on a curve, can the software do that? Is there any documentation or help info on working with text? Thank you again for your help.
Great tutorial, helped a lot! I'm curios if you know any other settings or parameters to the Outline function. whenever I outline an object it only creates a vector for the perimeter of the object and not the interior hallow spots (like it did for your logo) any suggestions on how to fix that would be greatly appreciated!
That function seems to currently broken in the latest build of this software. I had sent an message to xTool letting them know if was broken but didn't hear back. Hopefully it's fixed in the next version.
@@BusterBeagle3D thank you for a speedy reply! that's upsetting to hear! that was the exact thing I needed this cutter for haha. Again, great video. Definitely helped me dive right in
Thank you so much! This is the second one I watched and you informed me of new things. I appreciate it. I have a question. I am new to this hobby and am trying to find out how to engrave and item then cut it using XCS with my D1 Pro 20W. While watching your video, I thought you were going to go over it when explaining the difference with score, engrave and cut. Is this possible to do? If so, do you have a video to do so? Thank you again.... This helped so much!
I tried the same with no luck. One option you can try is to draw a line out and then change the height to .0001. This will straighten out the line. Not the best option in the world but it does work.
Hello! Have you run into any problems with yours running a large burn on xcs with stopping and saying complete? Did it to me twice today. Thanks in advance.
Hello again--I am learning Creative Space more and more and am trying to cut out a vector image rather than engrave it but noticed that cutting is not an option. It is a black and white image just like your company logo in the video at 28 min. Do you know why engraving is the only option? Is there a way around that? Thanks for your help!
You have to convert that image into an outline to be able to cut it out. I first edit the image to remove the white areas and then use the outline button to create the outline. Then you can delete the original image and use that outline to cut.
I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to about the spot size but I think you are talking about the enabling the Laser point when you want to frame. The enable button turns on the actual laser point and the value is the laser power when you enable it. You want this value to be really low, like less than 5% since this is the actual laser that can burn the surface if that value is too high.
Thank you so much for the video. Just received my today and been very frustrated. I thought I broke the leaser because the tip got black but I then wiped it off. Do you have a tutorial on how to do the absolute coordinates?
Hello, I am new to laser engraving/cutting. I have the D1 pro 10w and 40w. Can you please explain how I can engrave and then cut an object all at once? I would like to make several key chains at once. Thank you for your videos
I personally have only done color on stainless steel so I'm not sure. You might be able to get some colors on regular steel as well but as far as I know that's about it.
HEllo, its great video. I'm a beginner and on researching which machine has a user friendly interface, so far ive seen this is great but I also heard of ortur has a web ui called laser epxlorer (can use with master 2 >) is it capable as this XCS?
From what little I have used of Laser Explorer it’s SUPER basic. To xTools credit Creative Space has been expanding and updating their software to do more things. It’s still not a good as Lightburn but it’s getting pretty good for the beginners or casual users.
The "super long" is exactly like it sounds like, There are extensions you can purchase which makes the machine double long. Also going above the maximum lines per cm for your machine wont really ruin the quality of the imagine that badly, it would act more like the settings for multiple passes and just make it look darker.
You're a blessing brother may the Lord Jesus keep you and increase your wisdom 🙏. This tutorial gives me more confidence ro use xcs. I hope Xtool listen to your advice.....👍👍💯
My husband got the D1 Pro yesterday and it's my job to learn the software. Your video seems very helpful since I am not a technical person at all or use software such as Creative Space. I do have a question on the Absolute Coordinates..(sorry if this is a silly question) How did you create that file with your absolute coordinates saved? Did you have to add a text box or something to get those coordinates? Again, sorry if it's a silly question! Thanks for your help.
Hello Blair. Essentially in XCS I made a square an put it in the top left corner of the area to make the laser think it was using the entire workable area of the machine. That way you can place an object on the grid somewhere and it should now calculate where that object is on that grid. If you watch my other video this might make a little more sense. czcams.com/video/BjurBn4UGZg/video.html
Hello! I am having issues with my Xtool D1 Pro Laser. I received it and tried it, the first try was perfect. Then the second time I tried it wouldn't work. The laser would move around but the laser light barely had any strength. It would move around as if it was doing the job and would take the amount of time the project would take, however there were no marks on the plywood or anything and the light was very very weak. You could barely see. I emailed customer service and it has now been a 3 month battle or recommendations and changes they want me to make which I have but nothing has solved the issue. I went ahead and tried another laser head which is the one for metals. I did 1 dog tag that came out beautiful. I went ahead and tried to do another dog tag....same thing happened....the light was too weak barely visible, the laser would move around as if it was doing de project but nothing would engrave. I didn't change anything on the setting from first project to second. I was working with pre establish material settings. Power speed and all was verified and still nothing. Do you have any idea what it could be or how to fix it?
Is there a way to addd txt under photo and combine so it burns together ? For example if you had “Mt Rushmore” text under the photo and wanted to engrave the photo with the title ?
You wouldn’t need to and couldn’t combine it but if you had an image and text in the same project it would burn both at the same time. Unlike Lightburn you can’t pick the order in which it performs the action but I believe it would burn the image first and then the text.
Great video but Im having trouble rounding the edges of the vector drawing. As soon as I close the shape it becomes a box (Like anytime you select an object and I cannot click on a vector point to soften or curve it. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Hello. You should be able to double click on the closed shape and see the dots that you made the shape with. Then in you doube click on the dots it should make it in to a soft corner that you can adjust.
Outline is only recognizing the outside of my images and its killing me. For instance, I have an 8, and use the magic wand to remove any outter coloring and the inside of the 8s, it is only outlining the outside shape, even at 0.0. Is there a setting I messed up somehow?
Hello. Why can’t you currently engrave multiple pieces at once? You should check out the video on my channel about absolute coordinates. If you burn a grid on a spoil board you could align the parts where you want and burn many things at the same time and know exactly where they will all line up. czcams.com/video/BjurBn4UGZg/video.html

I was trying to do the cutting board in the projects section. I want to change the names and dates but I can't find a way to edit the project. Any tips?
I noticed that the program on my screen does not show any material list as once before, any reason for this? Thanks
Can you cut out an image after engraving like your dog image engrave the dog then cut out the circle in the program or would that take 2 setups?
in my program its not letting me go to framing when i click start its telling me the element is placed out of processing area i dont know what to do. do you have any ideas what i need to do
Your video on the XCS software was a great help - nicely done and easy to watch. Thank you for taking the time to share it with us. I want to put text on a curve, can the software do that? Is there any documentation or help info on working with text? Thank you again for your help.
I would like to know that as well.
Can anyone tell me the lifespan of a dess laser? Thanks
Definitely helped me dive right in
This was very good ! But how do you vector an arc on letters ? And make an outline detail picture from a real picture?
You can’t :(
I just got the Xtool D1, not the pro, my laser keeps on drifting to the right, got any advice on that? I'm using creative space and new at this.
What a great tutorial, Ryan! Do you know how to make a straight line? I tried holding down SHIFT with no luck. Thanks in advance.
I tried the same with no luck. One option you can try is to draw a line out and then change the height to .0001. This will straighten out the line. Not the best option in the world but it does work.
Can I get step by step for cutting? I’m new to d1 pro
How do I extend the working parameters after adding the extensions on the D1 using creative space? Any help would be great
Right under the laser in the top right corner of XSC change the Laser Flat to Laser Extension Kit.
OMG thank you so much!!
You are very welcome!
Then you can delete the original image and use that outline to cut.
are the dimensions of the pro 20w the same as the none pro 20w laser module..?
i own the none pro 20w
Honestly I’m not sure. I would assume so but I would just be guessing.
what is the enable button for next to th spot size and how does it work? please
Hello. You can check out this video. czcams.com/video/BjurBn4UGZg/video.html
The "Super Long" has been changed. In my current one it says "Laser Extension Kit"
Why are the vector points on mine so huge? I can’t even where I’m putting the next one.
Nope. You are not missing anything. There is a bug in the software, hope it's fixed in the next version.
Does anyone know what vector file types will this software open?
SVG and DXF
My d1 will not power on. But I get a blue light on the board any ideas
I’m not sure. Might be a good thing to look up or ask about on the XTool Facebook group.
I love using my XTool D1 and want to engrave multiple pieces at once instead of one at a time. Do you have or know of a video covering this?
