This was great! Thank you❤ I look forward to my functional med studies. I can’t wait to serve my community with this knowledge ☺️
I feel like I might have finally found my calling in nursing! I currently have my BSN and am a med surg travel nurse. I’ve been really trying to figure out where I want to take my career, because I don’t see myself working in the hospital for long as a bedside nurse.
I’m also currently on the path of utilizing functional medicine through lab testing and self education to heal some underlining symptoms that have become apparent over the last year.
I love learning about the body and things I can incorporate to be the healthiest version of myself. Functional medicine NP seems like a way I can incorporate my love of helping people and of holistic health and wellness. I didn’t realize I could become an NP and practice functional medicine.
You have so many options! I love that you are figuring out what you want early in your career. Keep going and let it evolve as you pursue what you want- you can't make a wrong choice :)
I'm an ER nurse. I see sooooooo many people with chronic health issues due to inflammation and the foods they eat that cause the inflammation. I want to prevent this rather than put out the fire. I'm working on getting my FNP now. I'll be done end of the year. I want to focus on functional medicine for sure!!! The frustration is real!!!
I love this!! Go for your dreams. Functional medicine providers are such a needed field in nursing.
I am doing a pmhnp program right now and then I am going to get certified in functional medicine. Health needs to be approached in a multi-factoral approach.
I love that! Treating the mind with the gut!
I am a family nurse practitioner. I am being offered training by a holistic provider. Is it permissible for NPs with functional medicine certification to rx herbal supplements?
great question, I actually attended a seminar on herbal supplements for NPs and it was sooo interesting. You need to check in the state you are in if you can prescribe herbal supplements. I am not familiar with the rules surrounding this and don't want to lead you astray!
Is it possible to get into functional medicine without med degree?
Ohhh 100% Nurse Practitioners can become board certified and open their own practices in Functional Medicine at a fraction of the cost of medical school!
I don't like functional medicine. 😩☹️ Why does it need a name? Just practice good medicine. And don't waste people's money and energy on needless expensive testing.
I think you're missing the point that Western medicine often does not have the answers for avoiding chronic diseases or complicated cases. Sadly, functional medicine is a luxury for the select few who can pay for concierge-type healthcare.
If more physicians naturally move towards functional medicine because it works, it will become mainstream. Nurse practitioners can and will change healthcare.
