If war doesn't make sense, then we have to explain why Americans wage war. It's not based on rationality: we need deeper, psychological theories that account for unconscious factors.
There's no deeper psychological reason or unconscious factor. The reason we are fighting pointless wars is because some very influential get enormously rich off of them. They have now become so rich that they have constructed a permanent state of warfare depositing money from your pocket and mine into theirs in perpetuity.

The psychological factor is inextricably linked to history, geography, economics etc
