Whatever happened to enforcing the law on headlight brightness....these new bulbs are like looking straight into a streetlight...very dangerous driving at night with these new bulbs shining in your eyes, that are factory installed or old ones replaced with bright white ones.
@Paul... Yes sir, these LEDs are truly bright and no doubt is a big help to the one driving with it. Now, for oncoming motorists, there is a specified angle of fwd tilt that these lights should beam at and that position is to prevent glare obstruction. If there are cars who does that to you, those are ones that needs adjustment so that they won't serve as road hazards to other drivers. If you happen to know about owner or where car parks, you can report and they will be given a citation with adequate time given to the owner to comply with the needed adjustment. Sometimes, it's not the factory-installed headlight itself but an aftermarket LED Fog lights that were not properly tilted downward that is causing the problem.
It's hard to put wipers on today's headlights, which curve and wrap around the car so much. Jets are mandatory for xenon and LED headlamps, because a dirty/foggy headlamp can dazzle oncoming traffic.
You're spot on with the idea of the plastic getting scratched. Any road debris ie sand, dirt, salt are all harder then plastic and moving them around with a wiper blade is a bad idea. I do miss the wipers though.
United States never got any BMWs with headlight wipers. We got almost any other car that had headlight wipers but for some reason, BMW never shipped any of their cars to the United States with that feature.
Volvo first used them. In Sweden, during the heavy autumn showers and spring thaw, there was a lot of mud on the mountainous country roads that used to splash up onto the lights, and that's why Volvo added them to their cars. The water jets work OK on their own for this purpose now, so no need for the wipers anymore. I do prefer the little wipers though, I remember having them on the Volvo 240 series.
They evolved into wiperless washer jets. They did away with the wipers because the replacement parts are more expensive than windshield wipers as well, also the systems now are just jet washers so while you're driving it shoots at the headlight and as you drive the wind drys the remaining washer fluid. Wipers were cool but as technology advances they are just trying to illiminate more and more than is obsolete. It was cool while it lasted but that ship has sailed! 💪👍🤙✌
Thanks for making this video - I think car mfrs should at least put jets that wash the headlamps, especially if the car is meant (SUVs, primarily) to be driven in mucky conditions. I live in a northerly climate, where a ton of road grime can build up on my headlights, making it difficult for me to see the road at night, and make it equally as difficult for oncoming traffic to see me! ...and yes, the wipers are quite adorable. :-)
No more of those cute actually status symbol luxury headlamp wipers. They did stop ✋inclusion of this cute feature when they replaced true glass with plastic. It's OK if the wiper blade is new, however as these blades are on the bottom list and even NOT on the replacement list priority of owners, a worn-out blade actually scratches the lower quality plastic than real glass, thus scratching it, speeding up the yellowing/ cloudy look of the headlights, which is more of a hassle than help. Anyway, if the upper trim models has glass material, then we can request to bring that cute status symbol back to the more luxurious cars. Hehe... Thanks for posting, sir.
Hi I think the modern trend for head lights are more of a wrap-around moulded Style into the front wings so no real flat glass or plastic for wipers just my opinion. Did I see LED lights on the Volvo are they road legal lol
@@CB-RADIO-UK I tested mine and I guess it always worked with the wipe windscreen function and never just regular wiper modes. Very cool and I feel lucky having a feature like this.
its all cost high pressure head lamp washer jets do the same work and if you have xenon its a legal requirement as dirty headlamp cause light spread and if you have ever been dazzled by xenon you will feel it lol! I also remember the wipers on those old bmw's they used to pack in regular.

An overengineered bullcrap. Basically when you are driving behind an old IFA for hours in mud and blizzard, its useful. You have more chance for the need of an icecream holder stick.
Nissan Almera N15 (1995-2000) has those aswell, and yes, they're very cool, but it's near impossible to find replacement blades 😐 Edit: here's their operation czcams.com/video/7O4HOcGFF_k/video.html
Wiping leaves streaks . Steaks that people can blame their accident on rendering them unaccountable and the manufacturer on the hook for damages . Jets don’t leave streaks .
I don’t understand the point. How dirty could they get that this would be helpful? At that point it’s time to wash the whole car! In addition, it won’t help the oxidized plastic in today’s headlights.
They still have jets on new modern cars now but I think new designs of lights have prevented wipers to work on them. I own a 2003 Volvo C70 and that has front wiper blades on. They do need attention as only one works but I’ll get them working again Please like and subscribe to my channel Jab TV. I put videos of me fixing my car Volvo C70
I've always asscoiatd headlight wipers with very expensive vehicles made in Europe. I am not sure if any North American vehicles ever incorporated such an option.
I think it’s because the Scandinavian countries that required them by law changed their laws on them so you can just have a jet instead of a full on wiper.
hey you think that's bad I went into the Glasgow transport museum few years back 1st car I see is a mk1 cavalier 1300cc....I had two of them at one time,,,jeez..@@CB-RADIO-UK
It's just useless, headlights have become so bright that it doesn't matter if the headlight is wet or not, plus if it was snowy the heat would just melt it in a matter of minutes.
No funny enough its gone backwards in that department. People with latest LED headlights are complaining that they do not produce enough instant heat to melt frost quickly.
@@CB-RADIO-UK That's what I've been thinking. If headlamp wipers (concealed unless on) make a comeback, it would likely be due to the snow problems in the winter

Yes the LED lights on SUV's can be like looking into the sun !
That's actually not the problem. The issue is the beam pattern not properly handled with retrofits

most LED headlights like Audi Matrix and Mercedes LED-ILS dont have any washers at all
I don’t think it’s mandatory, on some cheaper Land Rover’s, they come with LED headlights but washers are a paid optional extra

I only remember old Volvos having them. When I think of volvo the first thing that comes to mind are those little headlight wiper blades.
Yep. they were all over cars in the 80-90 s. Saabs and Vaux Cavs come to mind.
Mercedes as well

Nissan had them

I believe it's due to the more aerodynamic design of modern headlights, cool video!
Yes there is far less flat surfaces on cars lights now.

saw the exact same car in a parking lot and looked this up cuz i was confused about the fact that the car had wipers on the headlights
These are awesome. I want them on my Volkswagen jetta. Lol.

Yeah they do LOL. Not much you can do if you want to cover all the lens though.
I wonder if there is higher pressure in the jets nowadays, and it blasts the crud off instead?
Seems how it works. Trouble is that is you do that at speed you risk it spraying over the bonnet.
I remember seeing cars that had head light washers and wipers... fancy lol
They were big on BMW MERC SAAB and a few others in the 80's and 90's.

I think the wrap around thing might be relevant. Being plastic they would scratch. The LED lights are sidelights so get through the MOT. Well for now.
